This role is being advertised as a Shop Manager but on appointment your job title will be Community Shop Manager.

We’re looking for confident and influential people who want to be at the heart of their local community looking for an opportunity to have control of creative merchandising within managing a Shelter shop. Do you have experience of managing a team whilst also empowering and motivating individuals? If so, then this could be the role for you at our Edinburgh Corstorphine shop.

About you

You will need to be an active team player and be able to demonstrate how you’ve managed and motivated a team previously beyond expectations and experience of providing excellent customer service in a face-to-face role.

Have a good knowledge of recruiting and developing a diverse team and how you have supported and motivated teams to progress and how you would bring these skills into this position.

You will need to have good communication skills to engage with the local community to seek out new opportunities to increase the shops contribution to help further Shelter’s cause. You will develop your own and your teams’ interests in merchandising the shop attracting customers and continually develop yours and your team’s knowledge of Shelter, who we are and what we do.

About the role

An ideal opportunity for someone who is interested in a career in corporate fundraising or charity retail, you’ll play a key role in developing Shelter’s retail presence and raising vital funds. You’ll be responsible for enabling stock donations from major retailers and helping research and develop new relationships with businesses to generate stock and secure their expertise on a pro-bono basis.

Thinking strategically, identifying new opportunities, and bringing ideas and concepts to life through written proposals and pitches to businesses in order to generate support for Shelter – all are aspects of a role that will also see you ensure the smooth running of our Stock Generation administration processes and help the Senior New Corporate Partnerships Manager (Retail), with day-to-day activities.

About you

As well as being keen to develop a career in charity retail and fundraising, you also feel passionate about working with companies to help tackle homelessness. What’s more, you believe you have what it takes to plan and source new stock generation opportunities and develop new acquisition tactics and campaign ideas that will engage retailers. You will have the ability to generate creative and imaginative proposals and take the initiative to develop new relationships with brands and retailers.

An understanding of the sustainability agenda for businesses and ability to apply commercial and financial principles to improve business performance would be a definite advantage. We’re also looking for someone friendly and personable, with strong relationship building skills who can manage a busy workload, work well as part of a team and is proficient using Microsoft Office applications and databases.

About the team

Shelter’s mature fundraising team has seen continuous year on year growth. The directorate generates over £65m gross income, of which a high percentage is unrestricted, giving us an exceptional level of investment flexibility. This particular role sits within our High Value Partnerships division, which includes Philanthropy, Trusts & Foundations, Legacies, and Corporate Partnerships fundraising specialists. It will also see you work closely with colleagues in a Retail team that’s responsible for a network of 77 charity shops and boutique stores that are the face of Shelter on the high street.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with a professional telephone manner to join us as Tele-Fundraising Intern. You will help promote Shelter and enhance our ability to retain our supporters. This is an exciting opportunity and you will play a key part in standing up to the housing emergency.

About the role

You will be the first point of contact for supporters seeking information about Shelter’s work, so will need excellent communication and administrative skills, a real interest in housing issues, as well as an understanding of how the Outbound Supporter Services Team impacts supporter retention. Your day to day work will include calling supporters to welcome them to the organisation and thank them for choosing to support us, undertaking quality control surveys and ensuring supporter data is accurate.

You will promote Shelter, raise awareness of housing and homelessness issues and enhance our ability to retain our supporters. You will respond to enquiries about Shelter’s work and action supporter requests. You will maintain accurate supporter records and liaise with other departments to ensure changes are actioned, as well as handling complaints about services and fundraising activity.

There will be on the job training, support and supervision. The successful candidate will have access to Shelter’s Employee Assistance Programme. We can also offer flexible hours, with some office working.

About you

The role is open to anyone who has have lived experience of disadvantage, such as homelessness, housing issues, the criminal justice system, mental ill-health, money and debt issues or other disadvantages. You will have good customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively on the telephone. You will also need good attention to detail, the ability to capture data accurately and have an understanding of Microsoft Office applications.

You’ll take a strategic approach to building partnerships, aligned with local priorities, and be committed to working flexibly to support the growth and impact of our community model. Most importantly, you'll lead the delivery of Shelter Scotland’s Communities West offer – ensuring real, lasting change for individuals and communities, shaped by the voices of those with lived experience of the housing emergency.

Do you have experience of housing law, debt advice, criminal justice and insight into the needs of homelessness among women? If so then consider a move to Shelter. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key part in standing up to the housing emergency.

About the role

Your role will be to provide tailored accommodation support to women under probation supervision in the community, helping them to find and keep a home and reintegrate into their local communities. You will collaborate closely with the women’s key worker and Service Users to develop plans using a strengths – based approach to help them achieve their goals and reach their full potential. The caseload will fluctuate and service users levels of need will vary.

About You

You will have considerable experience and knowledge of housing law, debt advice and the main issues relating to homelessness and criminal justice for women with multiple and complex needs. You have experience of delivering services for women, advocacy to external stakeholders on behalf of clients, managing caseload and ideally, working in a criminal justice setting.

The service aims to support users to secure and sustain safe, decent and affordable homes, which in turn will reduce reoffending and help service users to successfully rehabilitate. Through our work we aim to influence at both a national and local level to make sure that people in the criminal justice system are able to access good quality housing.

About the role

This is a hands-on, practical role for someone who can hit the ground running. You’ll be leading the design and delivery of Anti-Racism, Equity and Inclusion (AREI) plans that turn vision into reality — working across directorates to embed change where it matters most.

You’ll work closely with Directors, HR, and a range of stakeholders to build and deliver programmes that support Shelter’s strategic aims. That means helping teams shift from intention to action — shaping and delivering interventions that have a real, measurable impact. From advising on best practice, facilitating workshops and training, to reporting on progress and helping the organisation stay accountable — this is a role with reach and purpose.

Role specifics

An excellent leader and project manager, your career to date will need to include extensive experience of mobilising teams to support the development of measurable initiatives to drive and embed cultural change and inclusion within an organisation. We’ll particularly be looking for a pragmatic and proactive approach, with a history of co-designing and delivering Equity and Inclusion (E&I) initiatives that resonated with an organisation’s core values and were pivotal for driving forward their ambitious goals. A flair for turning concepts into actionable plans is essential too, as are strong communication and presentation skills and the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of an organisation. In short, you’re a strategic thinker with a values centred approach, E&I expertise and proven experience of leading and managing others. You are a confident leader and experienced project manager, with a solid track record of driving cultural and organisational change. You know what it takes to co-design and deliver initiatives that are grounded in an organisation’s values and relevant to its people.

You bring a practical, collaborative approach — and you’re not afraid to challenge, ask the right questions, and get things moving. You’ve led or supported measurable EDI or anti-racism work before, and you understand how to turn strategy into action. You will take a structured yet flexible planning approach, ensuring delivery stays focused while adapting to the realities of a fast-paced environment.

About the role

You will be the local leader for Shelter’s Community Services, leading a multidisciplinary team in implementing Shelter’s strategy locally, delivering the local response to the housing emergency and empowering the local community in Sheffield to fight for home.

You will take the lead on the delivery of services and contracts to provide consistently high levels of performance, and plan and deliver service development strategies, including seeking business development opportunities that align with our strategic aims, both across Community Services and in partnership with the Lead Solicitor.

As the strategic lead for Sheffield, you will promote and direct systems change activity, so we better understand what is influencing people’s experience of homelessness and bad housing and have effective plans to influence change.

You will act as an ambassador for Shelter in the local area, representing the organisation through media, networks and local stakeholder engagement.

Alongside this, you will plan and implement resourcing plans for your Hub, including staffing, volunteers and engaging people with lived experience and will manage the Hub Leadership team. Ensuring there are multiple and ongoing opportunities for people with lived experience of homelessness and bad housing to be part of Hub development, activities and learning is a key element of this role, as well as upholding and promoting a learning culture with the Hub.

About you

A natural leader, who can inspire, others to advocate for change, you will have a proven working knowledge of homelessness, housing and related issues affecting local communities. You will possess sound experience of managing and delivering contracts, partnerships and services along with experience of being involved in implementing and reviewing change management, whilst demonstrating excellent budgeting and financial reporting skills.

The ability to proactively develop and maintain key relationships and having impressive analytical skills to use insight and evidence to present data, manage performance and to identify and implement systems change are vital to this role, as are impressive interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.

Shelter’s High Value Partnerships department is crucial to achieving our charitable mission and is responsible for raising £30 million a year through fundraising with high-net-worth individuals, legacy and in-memory supporters, trusts and foundations, companies and statutory funders. The Philanthropy team work with high-net-worth individuals to raise major donor income to help power Shelter’s work.
