Vulnerable children in the UK need your help.
Wherever you work in the Action for Children family, you'll be helping to change the lives of the most vulnerable children in the UK.
Last year, we helped more than 670,000 children and families across the UK. From direct work in communities to national campaigning, we are focused on making sure every child has a safe and happy childhood, and the foundations they need to thrive.
Why Action for Children?
Working here is more than a job. Everyone in the Action for Children family is passionate about protecting and supporting children. It's the sense of purpose that drives us every single day. Because we know that, when we work together, we can make a huge difference to bring lasting improvements to vulnerable children's lives.
A bit about the role
We have an amazing Action for Children team who run a good vibrant Ofsted registered nursery at HMP Askham Grange from birth to 3 years, but predominantly with a maximum of 11 children up to the age 18 months, which gives us the time and scope to fulfil our role to a great depth. It is an open prison for women in a converted manor house - a completely different environment to high-security facilities. There is even an attached Garden Centre and Coffee Shop.
The focus is rehabilitation and resettlement for women at the end of the sentences - some are mothers of young children. Our nursery team in the Acorn Family Centre provides a stimulating and fun environment where support and education are paramount for these infants and their mums.
We are looking for a highly skilled, enthusiastic Early Years Practitioner to provide a range of stimulating activities for children aged 0 - 2 years in line with the Early Years Foundation stage. You will work as part of a team, led by Early years Co-ordinator.
How you'll help to create brighter futures
- Provide individually or as part of a team, practical quality care, support interventions and range of activities and experiences to children, young people, and families, as advised and in line with agreed plans.
- Be alert to child protection and safeguarding issues and inform appropriate line managers about concerns in line with our safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Facilitating early years group meetings.
- Contributing and supporting team lead in the centre's self-evaluation and action planning.
- Preparing and supervising dedicated areas/rooms within the setting on specific working patterns through planning, managing ratio of children, provision of a stimulating and appropriate range of activities and ensuring health and care needs are met.
Let's talk about you.
- Level 3 early years and childcare qualification e.g. NNEB, CACHE, NVQ
- Experience working in an early year's childcare setting or a setting working with children aged 0 to 5 years.
- Previous experience working in a nursery setting aged 0 to 5 years.
- Pediatric First Aid Qualification & Food Hygiene or ability to achieve.
- Ability to keep the child as the focus and ensure their feelings and wishes are represented in record keeping.
Working here is so much more than a job. Whether this is a career change for you or the next step in your journey, we'd love to hear from you.
Good to know.
