Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a Trustee who is passionate about arts and social

justice, who wants to make a difference and is able to compliment our

Board of Trustees, Artistic Director, and Executive Director as we work

together to develop the impact and profile of Cardboard Citizens. We

believe that the need for Cardboard Citizens is as urgent as it ever has

been with the current external environment and the challenges for our

communities with experience of homelessness and poverty.

Whilst we’d like to hear from applicants from a range of backgrounds and

experiences, we are particularly keen to hear from those with skills in any

of the following areas:

·Digital, New Media

·Communications / public relations

·Environment & Sustainability

·Development

·Strategic partnerships

The general attributes we’re looking for in potential Trustees include:

What we ask of you:

·To serve an initial term of 4 years, with the possibility of re-appointment

until 8 consecutive years’ service has been reached.

·To attend 4 x 2-hour Board Meetings a year, committee meetings as

required, as well as an annual Away Day.

·To attend events, performances, workshops and other engagements, to

gain a full experience of the breadth of Cardboard Citizens work.

·To sit on one of the Board’s Committees.

·To provide specialist advice and expertise as required and appropriate.

·To advocate and champion Cardboard Citizens’ work, values, ambition,

and strategic direction.

In total, Trustees usually commit the equivalent of 10 days per annum to

their role.

Family Lives was formed over forty years ago by volunteers with the aim of ensuring that all parents had somewhere to turn before they reach crisis point.

We know that the right support at the right time makes all the difference.

Family Lives provides targeted early intervention and crisis support to families who are struggling.

Purpose of the role:

To be part of a flexible team providing empathic, caring and informed support to families, carers and others who use our services.

Our volunteers take calls from parents and carers on a wide range of subjects, whether that might be issues around separation and divorce, isolation, depression, bullying and abuse, dealing with behavioural problems, etc. You can find out more about our services on our website. We are a national service with home-based call takers county wide and a call centre in Old Hatfield Hertfordshire.

Once trained volunteers sign up for a weekly 4-hour shift comprising 3 hours ‘online’ followed by a debrief session with your supervisor which can last around half to one hour.

We recruit volunteers with a range of backgrounds and experiences though we ask that volunteers have experience of parenting or working with children and young people, are good listeners and have a willingness to learn. Being remote it will be very important that you have a PC/laptop, plug in headset with microphone, good Wi-Fi and a private place to work from home. You need to be a UK resident.

Our volunteers often tell us how rewarding their time with us is.

You'll be part of a compassionate community and feel a real sense of pride for what you do. You'll meet new people, gain valuable experience, and develop your skillset. We're passionate about helping people to reach their full potential, so we'll offer you full training suitable for the role, supervision from a named member of staff, including help setting personal development goals, and opportunities to increase skills and input into practice via regular Practice Development Groups.

Our training programme is excellent and will give you the opportunity to develop the skills needed to offer empathic support and guidance to callers whatever their circumstances; all shifts are overseen by a regular shift supervisor who provides ongoing remote support.

We ask our volunteers to make a commitment of 1 year (with time off for holidays), obviously we understand that circumstances sometimes make that an impossibility but can be helpful to know at the outset that is the general expectation.

We have remote call taker training sessions that run over five sessions and is done remotely connecting you via a Microsoft Teams link. Our next training is starting in September 2025.

Trustees play a vital role in ensuring Edinburgh North East Foodbank meets its core purpose by overseeing the management and administration of the charity and ensuring that the foodbank has a clear strategy in line with our vision and goals.

What will you be doing?

Trustees have collective responsibilities for the oversight and development of the Charity in conformity with OSCR regulations and applicable law. The Trustees agree strategy and governance arrangements and work with the staff to deliver Edinburgh North East Foodbank services efficiently and effectively.

What being a Trustee Involves

We hold five Board meetings a year, normally the last Tuesday in the month from 6pm until 8pm, with our AGM being held in April/May.

Trustees are expected to attend the Board meetings either in person or remotely as often as possible, with everyone attending the AGM.

Trustees are not expected to attend the Foodbank frequently but are encouraged to visit from time-to-time to become familiar with the work of the Foodbank and to speak with staff and volunteers.

Trustees should make time to build up relationships with, get to know their fellow Trustees, staff and volunteers to foster a team spirit and understand the challenges that colleagues face and the responsibilities they carry.

Trustees should try to keep up with external developments and trends that might impact the work of the Charity. This will help with Board discussions and understand what could present as threat or opportunity for the Charity.

As a Board we need to be aware that the governance landscape is always changing. Trustees need to learn and develop and stay abreast of the new developments, best practice and legislation.

Governance

The Trustees must make sure that the Charity complies with its governing documents. (Charity Constitution) and complies with charity law requirements and regulations that apply.

Ultimate responsibility for the governing of Edinburgh North East Foodbank lies with the Trustees who must direct how it is managed and run. Trustees must act in the Charity’s best interest, manage its resources responsibly, act with reasonable skill and care, maintain oversight and make sure that it is working towards its charitable objectives.

It should be noted that some people may not act as a Trustee e.g. someone who is bankrupt or has an unspent conviction for offences involving dishonesty or deceit.

Trustees must declare if on any occasion they have a personal interest which may conflict with the interest of the charity.

What are we looking for?

We rely on the dedication and expertise of the people who volunteer to become board members. We welcome applications from people who have an interest in a society where everyone has the means to buy the essentials and so reduce the need for using food banks.

Skills and experience that are particularly useful are:

• Strategic Management

• Working with the Government both local and central.

Previous experience of being on a Board is useful but not essential.

Role Profile

Job Title: Community Engagement Volunteer – Norfolk & Suffolk Victim Care Service

Place of Work: Office & Community based

Hours of Work: Minimum of 8 hours per month

Reporting to: Partnerships & Inclusion Lead

Screening: Enhanced DBS check & Non-Police Personnel Vetting (NPPV) – Level 2 (?)

We accept applications from people with a wide range of skills & experiences. Existing knowledge & previous experience are not essential and a full training program will be provided as part of the role. The victims of crime that face our service are of a wide range of people and we are searching for a wide range of volunteers to suite the needs of our service users.

Purpose of the role

To support and work alongside our Partnerships & Inclusion Manager on face-to-face- visits at conferences and events in the community. You will provide direct support to victims of crime in the local community and complete satisfaction surveys for the service, and sign post them on to other local services based on their individual needs..

Activities

· To Support the Partnerships & Inclusion Manager, and other case workers at events. This doesn’t necessarily have to mean you will take a lead at these events but you will be there for face-to-face support for the service users. This could include general chat, making hot drinks, and delivering leaflets, and sign posting to local services.

· You will engage with the public and promote the service to victims of crime, sometimes on occasion where the crime is historic. You will support the Partnerships & Inclusion Manager with running sessions within the community.

· You may come into contact with service users on the tail-end of their journey and will sign post them to any additional services which may help their needs. This could include regular check-ins and follow-ups to see if the service users have used the services available to them.

· Engage with local Universities to spread awareness of the service, common crimes more broadly, and be a part of the overall prevention of crime.

· You will gain a general understanding of the service and the types of crime local to Norfolk & Suffolk. This could include data analysis, crime prevention tactics, and sharing and communicating this information to the general public, service users, and team members as a whole.

· You will be a part of a group that provides initial support to service users and play a front-facing part of the service.

· You will listen to the needs of service users and link them up with relevant support available within the community.

· You will work in partnership with other services and charities to understand what is on offer for Victims of Crime.

· You will support and fill in for practitioners at events which could include for some of our volunteers the opportunity to deliver talks at places such as schools. This includes all other Catch22 policies and legal obligations such as adherence to GDPR.

· You will collect survey responses but also liaise with Partnerships & Inclusion Manager and other team members to respond to the survey if required.

· Ensure that our service users are kept safe and adhere to Catch22’s safeguarding policies and procedures.

· Has an interest and enthusiasm for the Criminal Justice System and a want to care for those that have been a victim of crime.

· Any skills which may be of use to the role such as an ability to analyse and present data.

· Time management skills.

· Excellent communication skills.

· Ability to collaborate and work independently when needed.

· Understand the confidentiality of individuals.

Entry Requirements:

To volunteer for NSVCS, you must be over 18 and of good character. You will have a caring nature and non-judgmental attitude.

The ability to work from our office and willingness to travel to support community engagement across Norfolk and/or Suffolk.

• marketing. Spreading the word about our fundraising activities, for example on social media and with the local press
• completing administration. Processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, completing Gift Aid paperwork
• championing our work. Getting involved with developing new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement
• photography. Capturing images of cats in care, cats we are helping, events and all things Cats Protection

What you’ll do

As part of a governing board, you’ll:

Time commitment

Expect to give approximately 1–2 days per month, including:

• Participating in training and occasional college visits

The time commitment is manageable alongside a full-time role—and many employers actively support staff to take on governance roles as part of their professional development.

Where you’ll be needed
Some colleges offer remote governance and meetings take place online. This may suit you best, or we may suggest a role where you volunteer on a hybrid basis at a college within a reasonable distance from you. We are recruiting governors for colleges across England, with new opportunities added regularly.

The Ark Gedling is a Christian charity that exists for the prevention and relief of poverty and hardship; it is a UK registered charity and a member of Advice UK. It provides a community café, with a range of activities to support community development and mutual support, which operate in conjunction with advice sessions, so that local people receive expert advice alongside compassionate community support and empowerment. It works in close partnership with other charities and with local churches. We are excited to announce we are recruoting new trustees to support the project into a new phase in our 20-year history.  

Chatterbox Befrienders offer one-to-one telephone support and will call a client once a week offering companionship and a listening ear for an individual who might otherwise go unheard. Chatterbox volunteers befriend a variety of people including carers, socially isolated individuals who are struggling with loneliness, people with ill health and those that 
have been bereaved. 

THIS ROLE COULD BE FOR YOU IF:

- Are empathetic, patient and of a caring nature

- Have good verbal and inter-personal communication skills

- Recognise the importance of confidentiality and can uphold this in practice

REQUIREMENTS OF A BEFRIENDER INCLUDE:

- Calling your client once a week for a chat of up to 45 minutes; this is a 26 week initial commitment, at the end of which each client’s needs are reviewed

- Completing an online call log record promptly after each phone call

- Ensuring immediate contact with the Chatterbox Coordinators if you feel that the client might be a risk to themselves or others

- Liaising with the Chatterbox Coordinator on a regular basis regarding the service, as well as discussing personal learning and development needs

- Respecting service standards, appropriate boundaries and recognising the range of policies and procedures that impact on befriending vulnerable adults
