About this role

As Head of Digital Engagement you will lead SPANA’s digital presence across web, email, social and emerging platforms – ensuring the organisation’s voice, brand and mission are powerfully communicated to global audiences. Contract, location and salary

This is a full-time (34.5 hours per week), permanent role with a salary of approximately £55,000 per annum subject to skills and experience. This role is UK based, and candidates must have the current right to work in the UK. SPANA staff work remotely, attending our London office once or twice a month (or more if preferred).

Role: Regional Fundraiser

Reports to: Fundraising Manager

Objective:

2wish exists to provide support to anyone affected by the sudden and unexpected death of a child or young person aged 25 and under.

Aims:

• Ensure every Emergency Department and Critical Care unit has a suitable bereavement suite
• Ensure that bereavement boxes are available at each of these hospitals
• Ensure that immediate bereavement support is available for all affected by the sudden death of a child or young person
• Provide a professional counselling service and other therapies for those affected by the sudden death of a child or young person
• Provide support to individuals who witness the sudden death of a child or young person
• Provide support and training to professionals from any sector who may be affected by the sudden death of a child or young person
• To advocate and campaign on behalf of suddenly bereaved families

2wish Cymru and 2wish :

2wish has been established since 2012 and has grown from strength to strength. During this time, we have worked tirelessly to embed our service and ensure that the offer of support is made at the point of death. 

We offer an immediate, consistent, high-quality and compassionate service to all individuals affected by the sudden and unexpected death of a child or young person aged 25 and under in Wales. We work in partnership with professionals who refer into the charity on behalf of the families, so they don't have to trawl through the internet for an organisation who may, or may not, be able to support. We provide immediate, and ongoing, support and are here for as long as our families need us.

At the start of 2024 we expanded the geographical area where we deliver our service, and have recruited a brand new team to support service users in the border counties, which is now in its second phase.

Context of role:

2wish supports anyone affected by the sudden and unexpected death of a child or young person aged 25 and under. We are a largely self-funded charity providing support across Wales and England. Our support team works very closely with our fundraising team to increase income but also to raise awareness of the work of 2wish.

This is a unique opportunity for an individual to continue to raise awareness of the charity, as well as continuing its activities in Wales. It will involve helping to organise fundraising events, working with volunteers and encouraging community fundraising opportunities.

Main duties:

Service:

• To help raise awareness of 2wish and the work we do.
• To work alongside the support team and to build on the reputation of 2wish
• Research, approach and engage community groups and local supporters using mechanisms for engaging their support to develop additional sources of income
• To liaise with the public who are fundraising for 2wish
• To support the delivery of community and corporate events, and monitor the income raised
• To attend community, corporate and networking events where necessary
• To actively participate in and collaborate on financial planning as a business unit during regular fundraising meetings
• To submit an annual business plan and budgets for the fundraising team
• To submit monthly and annual reports to the Fundraising Manager as required and work to monthly targets
• Supporting the 2wish Fundraising Team with events and community fundraising
• Working with the Volunteer Coordinator to identify and secure volunteers and ambassadors, meeting them regularly and maintaining engagement. Lead the Volunteer programme in your area.
• Maintain relationships with all donors including attending cheque presentations
• To work flexibly, travel, and make overnight stays when required
• To attend weekend and evening community/corporate events in support of the charity when required
• A ‘hands-on’ and ‘can-do’ attitude
• Contribute on the social media platforms maintained by 2wish
• Manage, write and apply for grants and trusts in your area, with support from the Finance team.

General Responsibilities:

• To be responsible for organising own work agenda, time management and administration
• To maintain a high degree of confidentiality in accordance with the charity’s policies

• To attend meetings as necessary - both virtually and in person
• To show respect and sensitivity for the cultural and religious beliefs of families
• To undertake training to update skills as necessary

• Participate as and when required in team meetings and one-to-one meetings, and undertake, as appropriate, courses/training/other developmental activities, which is relevant to the role

It is the nature of the work that tasks and responsibilities are, in many circumstances, unpredictable and varied. All employees are therefore expected to work in a flexible way and tasks which are not specifically covered in their job description may have to be undertaken.

You will be subject to performance review, which will incorporate a review of the above duties and performance over the period.

This role is subject to a DBS check.

Salary: Starting salary of £26,500

Contract type: 12 month contract.

Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week. Work outside office hours may sometimes be necessary and will be compensated for by time off in lieu.

Annual leave: 28 days plus bank holidays. Annual leave steadily increases after five years of service. Annual leave and statutory holidays are calculated on a pro rata basis where applicable.

Pension: 2wish operate a contributory pension scheme. 2wish will auto-enrol you into the scheme in accordance with it's auto-enrolment obligations. Full details of the scheme will be provided to you once you are enrolled, including the minimum level of contributions that you will be required to make during your membership (current contributions - employer 3% and employee 5%).

Mileage: A fixed rate allowance is payable for agreed mileage undertaken on 2wish business in a private vehicle, over and above your usual journey to your workplace/s.

Location: 2wish currently offers a form of hybrid working and this will continue for the foreseeable future. This post is predominantly home based, with regular travel across the area you reside in and regular travel to our Head Office in South Wales.

The successful individual will work as part of the team to deliver advice, guidance and , signposting to people affected by dementia and their families and carers.  This is a hugely integral role that allows you to make a real difference in the lives of those affected by dementia. We work mainly from home, but also you will be regularly meeting colleagues and clients face to face, over the telephone and virtually to give people the tools and knowledge to make informed decisions about their future.

- Being a named, trusted contact for the person with dementia and their carer through all stages of their diagnosis.
- Facilitating established dementia clinics in local GP practises.                                         
- Building the skills to handle a variety of issues and referring to specialists when needed.
- Managing your own caseload and referring people back to health professionals when required.
- Regular travel across North Herefordshire.

As a Dementia Adviser, you'll be the go-to person for support, information, and guidance right from the time of diagnosis through to when someone moves into residential care. Are you passionate about using evidence and data for good? As a new role, you will have the exciting opportunity to support and transform how we use health-related dementia data in the development and curation of our strategic evidence base. Clear and impactful data is key to understanding the scale and impact of dementia in the UK, and this role will be pivotal to ensuring we’ve got what we need.
Your role will be critical to informing research, influencing and engagement activity through deep-dive analysis and synthesis of existing data, identification of potential data gaps and methods to fill them, and the production of jargon-free, engaging interpretation and information for both internal and external use.
You will work alongside the Dementia Data and Intelligence Lead, together providing expertise on evidence, data and insight in the context of dementia, ensuring that the Society’s decisions and interpretation of dementia and the system are based on the highest quality of dementia evidence. You’ll also work closely with other members of the Strategic Evidence team - our in-house experts for dementia data, economics, care and clinical research evidence, responsible for gathering and generating evidence on the scale and impact of dementia across the UK, contributing authoritative, impactful evidence to inform policy making and strategic decision-making.
You will be part of an even larger Evidence, Policy & Influencing (EP&I) function, which is laser-focused on ending the devastation of dementia through changing policy. Teamwork and communication are key in this role – with colleagues internally and with the system externally to help make dementia the priority it needs to be.

About you
You’re a data analyst with previous experience of analysing data to inform policy and/or strategic decision making who thrives on bringing clarity to complex questions using data. You understand the importance of clear communication when it comes to sharing data and intelligence with technical and non-technical audiences. You’re passionate about using data and evidence for good, and you can understand the need for impactful data and evidence in the current health and social care landscape. You’re a trusted expert and critical friend, always considering the impact of your work on people affected by dementia.
Essential experience:

- Qualification in a discipline relevant to data analysis or equivalent demonstrable work experience.
- Skills in using statistical analysis techniques to draw impactful conclusions from complex data sets.
- Skills in data visualisation with the ability to tailor the communication of your findings to different audiences, using tools such as Power BI or ArcGIS.
- Experience of using software packages or coding languages to efficiently process data and produce shareable outputs (R Studio, SQL, Python etc.).
- Experience of preparing briefings, reports and other creative assets to support the sharing and mobilisation of data insights.
- Experience of providing advice and guidance on how to use data insights to team members and other internal colleagues.
- Experience of analysing and appraising data to inform policy and/or strategic decision making.
- Experience in using project and stakeholder management skills to deliver and monitor projects of work that require internal and external collaboration.

In this exciting role, your focus will be on improving family dynamics, promoting safe and nurturing relationships, reducing school exclusions and preventing the need for referrals to youth justice departments. You will use your experience, knowledge and skills around positive communication, behaviour coaching and negotiation and assertiveness techniques to support parents, children and families to build resilience, increase their confidence and develop coping strategies for managing mood, stress and conflict better. The service will provide a programme of support for families including face-to-face befriending in the home and community, community group activities, support by phone and video as well as signposting activities. You will lead a small team of peer volunteers working and travelling across Doncaster. The successful candidate must have experience of engaging in risk reduction activities associated with conflict and violence alongside experience of working with parents within communities.
