Purpose of the Role  

The Policy Coordinator plays a key role in delivering high-quality, intersectional policy analysis and supporting Imkaan’s strategic advocacy. Grounded in Black feminist and anti-racist values, the role ensures our work reflects the lived experiences of Black and Minoritised women and girls. 

The postholder will draft policy positions, respond to consultations, produce briefings, and monitor political and sector developments.  
Working closely with the Policy and Research Manager and wider team, they will help shape national debates and influence government and stakeholder engagement. 

This role requires creativity, analytical strength, and commitment to social justice. The desired candidate will be politically engaged, detail-oriented, and passionate about using policy to shift power and drive change. 

 Key Responsibilities  

 1. Policy Research, Analysis, and Development 

• Monitor and assess political, legislative, and social developments relevant to violence against women and girls (VAWG), with a particular focus on the experiences and needs of Black and Minoritised women and girls. 

• Conduct horizon scanning to track emerging policy trends, legislation, consultations, and other developments affecting the Black and Minoritised women’s sector. 

• Analyse national and regional policy environments to identify gaps, risks, and opportunities for strategic influence and sector sustainability. 

• Produce clear, timely, and well-structured policy briefings, consultation responses, and position papers on VAWG, racial justice, and structural inequality. 

• Lead or contribute to consultation responses, parliamentary inquiries, and government engagement opportunities to ensure Imkaan’s voice and expertise inform relevant policy processes. 

• Conduct desk-based research and support analysis of member experiences, service data, and lived experience evidence to strengthen the evidence base for advocacy. 

• Maintain a library of policy resources and an up-to-date bank of statistics and evidence to support internal and external use. 

2. Advocacy and External Sector Engagement 

• Use policy analysis to inform and shape advocacy strategies, campaigns, and public engagement work. 

• Develop and maintain relationships with policy makers, researchers, academics, and allied organisations. 

• Represent Imkaan in relevant external meetings, networks, roundtables, and events. 

• Contribute to debates and dialogue by articulating well-evidenced, feminist-informed policy perspectives. 

• Deliver policy briefings, workshops, and training sessions for Imkaan members and partners. 

• Support the development of collective policy knowledge and exchange across the sector. 

• Feed into internal planning to align the work of the policy of the Imkaan with wider organisational objectives and timelines. 

• Support the coordination of engagement with policymakers, local and national government representatives 

• Help prepare for external meetings, briefings, and parliamentary engagement – including drafting agendas, notes, and follow-up materials 

• Assist with convening policy roundtables, strategic influencing meetings, and cross-sector collaborations 

• Contribute to the development of Imkaan’s policy influencing calendar and contact management system. 

3. Project Planning, Coordination and Organisational Contribution 

• Contribute to the overarching workplan of the Policy Unit, ensuring deliverables and deadlines are met. 

• Engage in internal monitoring and evaluation as required to assess impact and inform future strategy. 

• Maintain effective systems for documentation, reporting, and communication within the team and with stakeholders. 

• Actively participate in the team supervision system, internal meetings, and organisational development initiatives. 

• Support positive team dynamics and contribute to a collaborative, learning-oriented working culture. 

• Ensure alignment with Imkaan’s ethical principles and values in all aspects of policy work. 

• Participate in personal development planning and engage with training opportunities. 

• Work with the Membership Coordinator to gather insight from members on emerging policy issues 

• Support members to participate in influencing opportunities (e.g. consultations, submissions, meetings) 

• Help translate policy developments into accessible updates and communications for members and stakeholders. 

• Support internal reporting and evaluation of policy and influencing work, tracking outputs and impacts 

• Ensure Imkaan’s policy work reflects the organisation’s values and the expertise of Black and Minoritised women and girls 

Person Specification 

Essential Experience 

• This post is open to Black and Minoritised women only as permitted under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010 (Occupational Requirement) 

• Substantial experience working in policy, public affairs, or advocacy within the VAWG sector or closely related fields. 

• Demonstrated ability to develop and analyse policy using a feminist, anti-racist, and intersectional lens. 

• Experience drafting policy positions, briefings, consultation responses, and research summaries. 

• Familiarity with policy issues related to migration, housing and criminal justice, particularly as they affect Black and Minoritised women. 

• Strong understanding of how policy change happens in the UK including government structures, legislation, and public policy processes. 

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to translate complex information for different audiences. 

• Research and analytical skills, with experience gathering evidence and synthesising findings into clear policy messaging. 

• Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail. 

• Commitment to the values of Black feminism, anti-racism, and the rights of Black and Minoritised women and girls 

• Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate complex issues into accessible, impactful policy positions.

Main purpose of the job

A fantastic opportunity has emerged to join Bond’s communications team, as its new Media Adviser.

This position will add capacity to Bond’s media function to help build Bond’s media presence, support the delivery of Bond’s strategy and support the sector in championing humanitarian assistance and development that works to help those who need it the most. This post has two main purposes. Firstly, to coordinate and engage with communications and media specialists across the sector to address shared issues and achieve shared objectives together. Secondly, to maximise opportunities to achieve regular media coverage to help deliver Bond’s strategic objectives and services in appropriate sector press, in support of Bond’s strategy, positioning and reputation.

This role will work collaboratively across the organisation and the NGO sector and will help deliver a planned, strategic, consistent, and integrated approach to our media work.

Main responsibilities

Press office (30%)

• Act as prime contact for enquiries from press or other media representatives
• Identify matters on which collective action/comment from Bond and/or the wider sector may or may not be required
• Ensure consistent messaging around Bond’s media work and campaigns or sector initiatives in which Bond is engaged
• Write and sell-in collective letters, statements, opinion pieces, features, and responses to print, online and broadcast media
• Updating Bond’s press lists while developing and maintaining good relationships with key journalists in relevant media
• Record and report media coverage of Bond and parliamentary stakeholders, using Bond’s media monitoring platform to track coverage
• Use Bond’s media monitoring platform to track government announcements and parliamentary stakeholder activity
• Monitor and update the Bond team on relevant news stories and media trends
• Support the organisation of background briefings with journalists, press conferences and oversee media interviews
• Support media briefings to the chief executive and other Bond spokespeople around media interviews

Sector media work (30%)

• Represent our work externally with members, actively networking and working with other sector media staff to build and strengthen priority relationships
• Build media group to ensure it is up to date and includes organisations of all sizes and remits and accurately reflects our membership
• Update media group with Bond’s reactive media lines and share information about key government and parliamentary announcements
•  Share media coverage with Bond’s media group and Policy and Lobbying group when relevant.

Leading Bond’s media and PR work (20%)

• Ensure regular coverage of Bond’s work and services in appropriate sector media to support delivery of Bond’s organisational strategy
• Work closely with colleagues across Bond to develop and implement media and PR outputs for Bond products, services and marketing.
• Work closely with the corporate team to implement media and PR outputs for corporate partnerships and events. 
• Working with the Head of Media and Communication to develop Bond’s crisis communications plan to anticipate, prepare for and implement responses to crisis situations, or other situations where there is risk of damage to our brand and reputation.

News gathering and editorial (20%)

• Update the news section of Bond’s website to capture current stories and issue affecting the humanitarian and development sector.
• Source thought leadership blogs for distribution through various Bond channels and external media, including news stories, blogs, features and social media items
• Source opportunities to share Bond’s media coverage via Bond’s different channels including social media and in relevant Bond working groups
• Manage the editorial calendar recording key global dates and events and making the wider team aware of editorial and media opportunities around these dates.
• Provide editorial support to the team as and when necessary, including writing relevant blogs for the sector.

Other:

• To perform such other responsibilities as may be required from time to time in order to achieve the objectives of the Communications and Member Services Team and the organisation as a whole.
• This role will require regular out-of-hours working within Bond HR guidelines and will fill our 24x7 media response function.

Overview/Purpose

About the Role

Through our Access & Participation Plan 2025–2029, we have made ambitious commitments to expand of this work to improve young people’s educational outcomes and address challenges to university access and broader inequalities.

We work to address local barriers to education such as mental health, pathways to citizenship, access to English language provision and issues around employment and fair wages. We do this through our partnership with South London Citizens. This role leads on the development and delivery of community organising initiatives and supports the wider integration of these methods across King’s. Through community organising, the role empowers school leaders, young people and parents to design, launch and sustain impactful campaigns. The post holder will work closely with Citizens UK organisers and colleagues across King’s to build strong partnerships and drive meaningful change, including engagement in broader, high profile local, regional and national initiatives.

The postholder will use community organising methodology to lead and expand our core community organising programmes which are currently, Parent Power South London, Empoderando Familias (in partnership with Citizens UK) and Empower ESOL. A key focus will be driving the strategic growth of our flagship Parent Power programme into new regions in collaboration with The Brilliant Club, where we have a commitment to support the launch of a new chapter each year through to 2028/29. This initiative empowers parents and carers to engage actively in their children’s education while building strong networks of community organisers who drive meaningful change at both local and national levels. ABOUT THE ROLE

Animal Equality’s campaigns have driven Parliamentary debates, legal victories, policy shifts, corporate commitments, mainstream media coverage, and inspired thousands of individuals to change their diets.

We are seeking a creative, driven, and strategic Campaigns Coordinator to deliver our current high-impact campaigns with a view to exposing the cruel animal agriculture industries, influencing decision-makers, and mobilising the public to create lasting change for farmed animals.

Working closely with team members, the Campaigns Coordinator will design and deliver imaginative campaigns while working in alignment with the organisation’s wider mission: to end factory farming. The role requires initiative, creativity, tenacity, and a solutions-focused mindset, as well as the discipline to execute projects effectively and professionally.

The Campaigns Coordinator will report to the Campaigns and Public Affairs Manager and work closely with others across our UK and international teams. You will play a key role in coordinating and inspiring volunteers and external stakeholders.

JOB DESCRIPTION

• Campaign delivery: Drive Animal Equality’s high-impact campaigns, bringing the plight of farmed animals into the public consciousness. Plan, coordinate, and implement imaginative and effective campaign actions that influence policy-makers, businesses, philanthropists, and the public. Produce clear, compelling, and engaging campaign resources.
• Stakeholder management: Build and maintain strong relationships with decision-makers, experts, regulators, allied organisations, and members of the public to strengthen campaign outcomes.
• Volunteer mobilisation: Grow and energise our Animal Protectors network through training, regular newsletter communication, and opportunities for online and in-person action.
• Peaceful protest coordination: Organise creative, non-violent demonstrations and direct actions that advance campaign objectives and attract media coverage.
• Research and uncovering malpractice: Conduct desk-based research, including FOI requests and collaboration with academics, to uncover questionable industry and regulatory practices, and inform evidence-based campaigns.
• Uncover scandals through desk-based research: Using Freedom of Information requests, conducting research, working with academics, and liaising with concerned members of the public, support the release of exposés that demonstrate the reality of animal agriculture.
• Media generation: Work with Animal Equality’s Marketing and Communications teams to design noteworthy content, ensure strong campaign narratives, and maximise media exposure.
• Support our digital campaigning work: Work alongside colleagues in our international Marketing and Communication Departments to engage the public through our multi-channel communication strategy. Assist with the development of content for our website, social media, YouTube and other platforms to successfully share plans and updates in relation to Animal Equality’s campaign priorities.
• Project management: Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines, budgets, and objectives are met.
