Spinal Muscular Atrophy UK’s Community Support Team provides practical guidance and emotional support to adults, children, young people, and their families affected by any form of SMA across the UK. 

As a Community Support Practitioner, you will play a key role in delivering compassionate, confidential, and responsive support at all stages of life. This may include times of particular challenge or change, such as receiving an SMA diagnosis, or navigating transitions into nursery, school, higher education, employment, or independent living. 

Your work will be varied and person-centred. You may be directly supporting families and individuals with issues relating to care packages, housing, equipment, education, access to treatments, and welfare benefits. 

To provide the highest standard of service, you will collaborate closely with colleagues across the charity, including those specialising in information provision, advocacy, and community engagement, ensuring families and individuals feel well-informed, supported, and connected. 

You will hold a professional qualification and have a background in education, health, social care, or disability.  You will work from home and connect virtually with the team with flexibility to attend meetings at our office base in Stratford upon Avon as required.

What you'll do:

The Employee Relations Specialist is responsible for building strong working relationships across the business and advising, coaching and training stakeholders and the People team on best practice on all aspects of HR case work. This includes (but not limited to) disciplinary, grievances, absence management, probations, restructures and TUPE as well as training and coaching managers to enable them to successfully manage their teams whilst effectively managing risks.

About you:

Offering best practice and pragmatic advice on all areas relating to HR Case work with the outcome of aiming to manage risks and reach successful resolution
Working with managers and staff to resolve conflict and grievances at the lowest level of formality possible
Addressing employee raised issues/concerns
Coaching and advising managers on policies/procedures, best practice and identifying risks/costs
Ensuring compliance with employment law and policy and processes
Ensuring all casework is dealt with in a timely and pragmatic way
Facililate change - supporting and advising on restructures, TUPE etc
Being a 'trusted advisor' to the business on all aspects of employee relations
Support on succession mapping: Provide support in identifying current and future skills requirements, succession gaps.
Support on HR induction and other HR related training
Building a good working relationship with the wider People team to ensure the effective working of the whole team
Ensure people management practices reflect employee brand, values and expected behaviours
Health & Wellbeing: Provide guidance to business on best practice approach to dealing with and supporting life events and issues relating to health and wellbeing, including reasonable adjustments and referral to Occupational Health.

Excellent HR experience with a strong emphasis on Employee Relations
Ability to effectively influence, challenge and negotiate within their business area on a range of people/HR issues
Ability to build effective relationships with people at all levels in the organisation, to understand business needs and consider and be aware of wider organisational and external impact
Ability to give sound HR advice to managers on all aspects of HR issues
Excellent understanding of employment law, regulations and good practice

Are you passionate about seeing children and young people in Wales have the opportunity to connect, explore, respond and grow in faith?  Scripture Union has a vision to see a new generation of children and young people have a vibrant, personal faith in Jesus and the Support Worker will play a vital role in supporting this ministry in Wales by providing communications, organisational and administrative service to the team.

About the role     

We’re looking for a support worker who will: 

• Support the Wales Mission Team in their ongoing mission to pioneer and create opportunities for children and young people, who are found in the 95% of those outside the church, to explore the Bible, respond to Jesus, grow in faith, and become sharers of the good news of Jesus for themselves. Our priority is to reach those who don’t yet know Jesus by helping them to connect, explore, respond, and grow. 

• Work with the National Mission Co-ordinator (Wales) and the team in the National Office to develop a wider provision for mission resources, communication and marketing materials in the Welsh language. 

This is a permanent role at 0.5 FTE with a salary of £11,970.

• Administrative Support: provide administrative support to the Wales team with regard to arranging meetings, note taking, event bookings, internal communication and database support.

• Communication: communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences in Wales in a variety of ways including newsletters, social media, updates to the website, supporter communications, handling enquiries from church volunteers/workers. 

• Welsh Language: support with translation and proof-reading to expand the provision of Welsh language mission resources and communication with supporters.

The context:

Listening and responding to the voices and experiences of young people across the UK is a foundation of our three-year strategy – and in particular the voices of Black or Minoritised Ethnic young people, who are often less-heard.

Our vision is to build and support an engaged, diverse network (B-Amplified) of young people (aged 11-25) from across the UK who represent a broad range of identities and lived experiences, and who can speak out and work alongside Barnardo's in pursuit of our core purpose: Changing Childhoods, Changing Lives.

To help us do this, we are strengthening our B-Amplified Network and introducing new opportunities for young people to engage in our work, including through our new Lived Experience Ambassadors offer and an annual Youth Summit.

The challenge this role will help us address:

Black or Minoritised Ethnic children and young people are less visible and represented across Barnardo's work – in our Children's Services, and in our UK voice and influence work. This role will help us:

• Address ongoing feedback about the need for greater representation of Black or Minoritised Ethnic young people within B-Amplified, while also strengthening engagement from children's services to support pathways for a longer-term, stronger charity-wide approach to inclusive engagement.
• Identify and understand barriers within children's services that prevent meaningful engagement with Black or Minoritised Ethnic young people. This will help inform V&I, SEEN, and the wider organisation's approach to anti-racist practice, and excellent and inclusive voice and influence work.

Specifically, this role will:

• Lead on the recruitment, coordination and support of young people signed up as B-Amplified Network members – the role will be the dedicated member of staff to onboard, sustain engagement, and successfully support young people to transition and exit to other opportunities.
• Support the SEEN Ambassadors, and coordinate their engagement in the wider B-Amplified Network offer – bringing them more coherently into the wider voice and influence programme of work, and ensure there is a consistent approach to monitoring, evaluation, recording and reporting for this group of young people.
   

In year 1 of this role, we expect the focus to be on the anti-racism strand to excellent and inclusive services and, by extension, the increased engagement of Black or Minoritised Ethnic children and young people – locally, in services, and nationally, in national opportunities. As part of its ‘business as usual', this role will:

• Provide ‘hands-on' sessional and pastoral support for young people participating in the B-Amplified Network and those who are SEEN Ambassadors.
• Coordinate and support a programme of personal and skills development sessions for young people participating in the B-Amplified Network and those who are SEEN Ambassadors – such as training, webinars and similar – to ‘get them ready' to have a voice and influence in decision-making.
• Forge improved links between the B-Amplified Network and SEEN Ambassadors, to ensure clarity of role/s, engagement and our ‘menu' of opportunities.

• At least five years' experience in a role working directly with children and/or young people in a health, social care, education or youth work setting.

The right candidate will:

• Live close to a national rail station and/or airport – as regular travel across the UK will be required, including overnight visits (1-2 times per month).

The Role

As Policy Manager you will be the driving force of our policy influencing agenda. We count on you to develop nuanced recommendations, grounded in high-quality research, and to work with policy makers to raise awareness, secure buy-in, and achieve real-world change. Reporting directly to the CEO, your main responsibilities will include:

• Monitoring policy developments at the intersection of employment and work-migration. In the short term, in employment you will keep an eye on the Fair Work Agency and the implementation of the government’s Make Work Pay agenda. In immigration, you will monitor developments concerning high-risk employer-sponsored visas.

• Producing nuanced analyses that spell out the implications of policy developments in a clear and accessible manner, and conclude with actionable recommendations.

• Influencing decision-makers, including government, parliamentarians, parliamentary committees and APPGs. This includes evidence submissions, 1:1s, and working in multi-stakeholder environments.

• Contributing to research publications that document the systemic drivers of migrant worker exploitation, and draw on best practice to give policy makers options for change. 

• Contributing to the charity’s strategy, and taking up line management duties as required.

About you

This is a senior role for a candidate who can hit the ground running. We would love to hear from you if you have:

• Good knowledge of UK immigration and/or employment justice, evidenced by academic credentials and/or professional experience.

• At least three years of professional experience in policy influencing. We will consider less if you can demonstrate other relevant experience (i.e. in research or legal advice).

• Excellent analytical and research skills, evidenced by a track-record of publications (such as policy analyses, reports etc).

• Excellent communication skills, including an ability to work effectively in a multi-stakeholder environment.

• A real sense of purpose, commitment to our mission, and appreciation for the power of team work.

This is an opportunity to join Refuge as a Service Manager to lead on the delivery of high-quality services to the women and their children living in our refuges and survivors of domestic abuse supported by our community outreach service.

We are recruiting for Service Manager who is passionate about supporting survivors who are impacted by domestic abuse and other gender-based crimes.  This is a multifaceted, fast paced, and exciting role where you will join our team in Derby to lead on the delivery and development of high-quality refuge and outreach services for survivors of domestic abuse and other gender-based crimes.

Our service provision in Derby includes culturally specific service for South Asian women as well as a specialist multiple disadvantage support worker who support survivors facing enhanced needs.

The post holder will provide line management and support to the accommodation based and the outreach service staff. This will include providing supervision on complex and high-risk cases, overseeing operational emergencies, and ensuring high standards of casework. You will also ensure that all service users in refuges and the outreach service always receive a high-quality support service in line with Refuge’s policies and procedures.

The Service Manager will lead on the delivery of the multiagency aspect of work, working jointly with the Refuge teams and wider stakeholders to deliver best services to the survivors.

Candidates must have proven experience of providing direct emotional and practical support to vulnerable people, managing, and motivating staff, managing casework as well as working within multiagency setting.  In addition, you must have an excellent knowledge of domestic abuse and other gender-based violence and its impact on survivors.  

You will have knowledge of relevant criminal and civil law legislation, as well as Housing and Health and Safety legislation.   

As member of the management team, you will be required to participate in an out-of-hours on call management service.

The service manager will be responsible for ensuring that contractual and other funding requirements are met fully, this includes ensuring that the services operate within the allocated budget and that Refuge’s high-quality standards are maintained. The role may involve visiting potential sites and contributing to the establishment of new services in conjunction with the development team.

The job involves working closely with staff that support survivors and their children who are experiencing domestic abuse and other gender-based violence.

Programme Delivery Officer role

Our work across Newcastle
Volunteering Matters play a vital role supporting volunteering in Newcastle. Since 2005, we have been operating Volunteer Centre Newcastle (VCN). This service provides a wide range of support around all things volunteering to 1250+ charities, organisations, and groups locally. Each year, we also support 2500+ members of the public who are interested in volunteering and need support to get started. We also lead the Home from Hospital and Community Support project where volunteers support older people with their transition home following a hospital admission. 

In early 2025, we launched the Good Neighbours Newcastle project funded by Newcastle City Council. We deliver this project alongside our delivery partner organisation, Search Newcastle, with a second partner organisation scheduled to join in early 2026.

Good Neighbours project
We would all like to live in a place that has a sense of community, where people look out for their neighbours. The Good Neighbours project aims to foster a feeling of positive wellbeing and independence for those who may be socially isolated, or who don’t have many people around them, giving that “little bit of help”.

The project helps people in the community feel safe, supported, and more able to live an independent life, whilst preventing, reducing and delaying the need for formal support through Adult Social Care. It also provides people the opportunity to volunteer a little time, in a flexible way, to make a difference in their own community. Key Responsibilities

Programme Leadership & Delivery

• Plan and deliver an innovative, progressive programme of activities, developed in collaboration with young people and colleagues.
• Create safe, supportive spaces that foster personal and social development.
• Deliver 1 to1 and group support sessions through a variety of methods (in-person, phone, digital), providing advice, guidance, mentoring, and signposting to other services.
• Organise trips, workshops, and positive activities in line with the project delivery plan.

Project & Partnership Management

• Lead the day-to-day operational and administrative management of the project.
• Develop and manage partnerships with schools, local agencies, and trusted community stakeholders.
• Represent YAA at borough, London-wide, and partnership meetings to champion Traveller young people’s voices.
• Manage project budgets, expenditure records, and ensure assets and equipment are safeguarded.
• Supervise project staff, support workers, and facilitators, ensuring high-quality delivery and compliance with YAA standards.

Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting

• Record attendance, case notes, and data consistently and accurately in the online database.
• Capture and share the impact of young people’s journeys through case studies, feedback, quotes, photos, and video.
• Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual performance reports for senior management and the Board of Trustees.
• Contribute to fundraising efforts by demonstrating impact and supporting applications to secure sustainable funding.

Person Specification

Essential Skills & Experience

• A minimum Level 3 Youth Work qualification (or equivalent).
• Strong experience working with young people, ideally including the Traveller community.
• Skilled at building positive, trusting relationships with young people, families, and partners.
• Excellent organisational skills, able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
• Confident communicator with strong literacy, report-writing, and presentation skills.
• Competent in MS Office (Word, Excel) and database systems for recording and reporting.
• A strong commitment to equity, inclusion, and safeguarding.

Desirable

• Experience within the charity, voluntary, or community sector.
• Understanding of the specific challenges facing Irish Traveller young people.
• Track record of partnership working and external stakeholder engagement.
