Job description

The coordinator role is central to the successful running of the charity, recruiting and supporting our volunteers and liaising with our partners in the voluntary sector, schools and parents. The coordinator will be part of our Bereavement Support Team as the link between volunteers and Trustees.  The role requires an understanding, and a recognition of the sensitive and potentially challenging nature of the conversations with those affected by bereavement. Full training and support will be available.

This role is home based with occasional travel

Responsibilities:

● Recruitment of new volunteers.  Completion of all recruitment processes from advert to appointment following the charity’s safer recruitment policies

● Supporting current volunteers

● Maintain records on Lamplight relating to our volunteers and clients

● Ensuring that the volunteers’ training records and DBS checked are current and arranging updates when necessary

● Facilitate monthly volunteer group sessions either online or in person

● Support colleagues with the delivery of volunteer training and, where appropriate, facilitate volunteer training

● Maintain our electronic volunteer resource library

● Share examples of best practice/good examples from volunteers with volunteers.

● Coordinate and maintain volunteer session support boxes

● Assist our Bereavement Team Lead in matching and allocation of children and young people to volunteers

● Liaise with other voluntary organisations

● Participate in setting and achieving wider objectives of the charity

● Review policies/protocols as required.

● Assist with social media presence and webpage updates

● Manage and approve volunteer expenses

● If required, support our administrator with setting up 1-1 volunteer sessions with schools.

Person Specification

● Experience of working in a child centred environment

● Have an understanding of bereavement and the issues that affect children and young people following the death of someone significant.  (though training will be given)

● Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly, effectively and appropriately with service users and colleagues at all levels.

● To practice in accordance with relevant legislation involving Safeguarding Children and Young People,

● Have good IT skills, should be familiar with Lamplight (or similar),Teams, GMail, Google office applications and MS office tools

● Competent on Social Media platforms, mainly Facebook and Instagram and web page editing.

● Comfortable feeding back and working with a trustee board

● Be prepared to undergo and enhanced DBS check

● Be prepared to undertake any necessary safeguarding training.
