Prospect Research Officer
Our client is an astounding group of professionals who believe that people’s sight matters. They have ambitious growth plans to increase the investment they are able to make in life changing eye health by supporting the work of a specialist eye hospital and its academic partner and funding innovative research, equipment, patient care and training through the delivery of innovative programmes of fundraising work. The prospect research officer will develop and maintain a healthy prospect pipeline in order to provide the philanthropy team with an appropriate number and quality of qualified prospects across individuals, corporate, and trusts and foundations. The officer will produce insightful background research on current and prospective donors using financial, biographical, corporate and philanthropic information from trusted sources and compliance with GPDR and data protection laws. Reporting to the prospect research manager, they will regularly review the prospect research strategy in response to changing internal requirements.

The selected candidate will have experience with and understanding of the principles of philanthropy, fundraising practices, donor motivations and wealth indicators and will have experience of conducting structure background research on HNWIs, company Directors, and/or family Trust and Foundation Boards. This person will also have experience of producing accurate overview research on donors and prospects and will have the ability to help manage systems to support prospect pipeline management.

Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Director of Casework will be a key member of the Senior Management Team and will have overall responsibility for the entire casework function and the efficient delivery of pro bono work through projects and partnership work. Our ideal candidate is a great communicator, with experience in content planning, social media content creation and management, newsletter copywriting, website management, and graphic design. They should be well-versed in crafting narratives for a variety of audiences and outputs, and managing an organisational communications calendar.

The role 

Key components of the role include: 

1. Social media content development - collaborate with internal subject specialists to produce consistent and frequent on-brand written and visual content for social channels, in support of brand and advocacy goals. You’ll use Canva and Adobe Creative Suite and AgoraPulse for this.

8. Monitoring, evaluation, and reporting - create regular analytic reports for social and email channels with data-driven recommendations as to how outputs can be continuously improved. 

9. Editorial planning and communications calendar management - lead on the maintenance, updating and adjusting of the organisation’s communications calendar, to drive consistent, planned-in-advance content across channels in support of brand building and key advocacy moments. 

10. Team support - support the communications team through project management, meeting management, processing supplier invoices, keeping journalist lists up-to-date, and other responsibilities where needed. 

Requirements 

• Understanding, and experience in use, of online channels (incl. website content management systems (CMS) such as Wordpress and Squarespace, a broad spectrum of social media platforms and email marketing through Mailchimp) 

• An excellent copywriter, with demonstrable experience crafting copy for different audiences - including for social media and email newsletters

• Strong research and proofreading skills, adapted to key audiences

• Comfortable prioritising and delivering on multiple pieces of work against tight timeframes

• Highly organised individual with experience of team administration support 

• A “doer”- ability to anticipate requirements and act to provide workable solutions with limited budget 

• A good knowledge of CRM systems.

• An understanding of using digital project management tools e.g. Trello

• An interest in mental health, advocacy and international development

• Strong relationship management skills

• Willingness to travel at least twice per annum and more if required

Desirable 

• Experience working in an advocacy / international NGO environment within a fast-paced globally distributed staff team

• Demonstrable experience in working with journalists

• A communications-related qualification or vocational experience

• Additional language skills (note the position requires fluent English)

The prospect research manager will be responsible for defining, articulating, implementing and delivering the prospect research strategy. They will line manage two part-time prospect research officers and a part-time prospect research assistant and will ensure the charity builds its prospect pipeline to drive income growth in support of the charity’s strategic priorities. Working collaboratively with the wider team to provide due diligence, the manager will be responsible for fundraising systems and will lead on the charity’s best practice and compliance with fundraising data regulation.

The selected candidate will have significant experience of managing a prospect research function and will have a thorough detailed knowledge of the voluntary sector. You will have excellent research skills in major gifts fundraising with demonstrable experience in identifying and researching prospects at the six and seven figure levels. You will have the ability to interpret financial data and translate that data into actionable insights.

As part of this role, you will be required to participate in an out-of-hours on call rota.
