We are looking for an Interim Director of Research (Maternity Cover) who will lead a talented research team of staff and associates providing direction and oversight for a diverse, ambitious research portfolio. As part of the Senior Leadership Team, you will play an essential role in strategy and have a hands-on approach from quality assurance and developing research practice, to managing projects and nurturing partnerships.

You will need to have deep roots in qualitative research, as well as the work of charities and funders, with experience of line management, team supervision and leading on new work development.

You will play an essential role at a key moment for IVAR. Charities are facing mounting pressures and ongoing complexities, and IVAR’s work is critical in supporting the response.

At the Institute for Voluntary Action Research (IVAR), we work with charities, foundations and public agencies to strengthen UK communities through action research. We champion the role and contribution of the voluntary sector. We listen, learn and share what helps – and what gets in the way – so that funders and decision-makers can put charity voice at the heart of change.

As Interim Director of Research, you will lead a motivated and talented team of research staff and freelance research associates. You will be responsible for maintaining and developing a strategic and balanced research portfolio, including leadership of project design and new work development.

You will work closely with the Director of IVAR and both the Deputy Director of Research and Director of Communications to support quality assurance, supervise specific projects, and ensure that IVAR meets its ethical standards. As part of the Senior Leadership Team, you will also support and feed in on all people matters and contribute to embedding an inclusive and equitable approach and internal culture. You will have a proven track record at the senior leadership team level and in line management, experienced at moving between strategic and operational priorities, and be confident to lead a research team in a collaborative and developmental way. 

You will have strong experience of research design, bid writing and generation of new work. You will be skilled in qualitative and action research, including significant experience of facilitating complex processes and discussions.

It is essential that you have experience of the voluntary sector and working with funders.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This role supports our work to run our programme by ensuring that we recruit and onboard enough volunteers to become our wonderful mentors.

As our Volunteer Recruitment Officer, you will be the first point of contact for people volunteering to be mentors. You will ensure that our volunteers receive the highest level of customer service and have a great experience in all contacts with our charity.

Key responsibilities

Volunteer Recruitment pipeline:

Our technology

We've got complex needs: recording, monitoring and reviewing information about our clients, with their informed consent. Our in-house web application acts as an electronic patient record, a case management system, a quality management system, and more - it's grown over the last 15 years!

We started out with a Perl application, and have improved it aggressively over the years. All our software is deployed using Docker containers using ECS; much of it using infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform and Pulumi. Our data is stored in a serverless/autoscaling MySQL database.

Newer work is often written in TypeScript, using NestJS and SvelteKit. We’ll use a variety of testing tools in both languages: end-to-end, integration and unit testing are all covered.

We practice a genuinely blame-free culture with incidents/mistakes and always focus our conversations on improving processes, not individual recrimination.

About you!

An ideal candidate will have some familiarity with SQL: our team write queries often!

We’d love to see candidates with some strong knowledge of HTML and CSS beyond the basics. We don't need you to know any frameworks in particular - but we'd love to see great fundamentals for building on the web, so you should have some experience building applications using JavaScript in the browser.

Debugging and testing experience is a must, in any language - we think that's a highly transferrable skill.

Previous experience with Perl is not a strict requirement. We're happy to show you the ropes - you'll be up to speed in no time!

Role Description

The Safeguarding Officer will lead and oversee all aspects of safeguarding within St Edmundsbury Cathedral, ensuring that the Cathedral remains a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for children, young people, and vulnerable adults.

You will be responsible for ensuring that the Cathedral meets all statutory safeguarding obligations and complies fully with the Church of England’s national safeguarding policies, diocesan frameworks, and relevant legislation. This includes proactively identifying potential risks, responding appropriately to safeguarding concerns, and ensuring effective reporting and case management in partnership with the Diocesan Safeguarding Team and statutory agencies.

Beyond compliance, this role is about embedding a culture of care, accountability, and transparency across the Cathedral community. You will support clergy, staff, and volunteers to understand their safeguarding responsibilities, ensure safer recruitment and training practices, and provide guidance and reassurance when safeguarding issues arise.

By acting as a source of expert advice, leadership, and advocacy, the Safeguarding Officer will help the Cathedral community uphold the highest standards of safety, dignity, and pastoral care, ensuring that everyone, regardless of age, background, or circumstance, can participate fully and confidently in Cathedral life.

The Cathedral Safeguarding Officer has operational authority within the Cathedral (subject to agreement with the Diocesan Safeguarding Officer with respect to responding to concerns and allegations against Church officers) for the following responsibilities, arranged according to the Church of England’s National Safeguarding Standards.

• Attend safeguarding-related meetings, including the Safeguarding Committee, Guild Committee and Forum, providing briefings, presenting reports and highlighting risks and compliance matters.

Policy & risk management

• Conduct audits and spot-checks to ensure practice aligns with policy and report findings with recommended improvements.

Additional duties and professional development

• Provide clear, timely advice within agreed working hours and support any out-of-hours arrangements for urgent safeguarding concerns as agreed with Chapter.
• Maintain your own professional development through training, supervision and membership of relevant safeguarding networks; ensure learning is shared across the Cathedral.

Key Relationships

• In the Cathedral, the Dean provides leadership concerning safeguarding, supported by Chapter and senior leadership team requiring good working relationships with both clergy and lay colleagues.

SLRA is a well-established local migrant support organisation working with and for refugees, asylum seekers and other migrants who are at risk or in crisis as a result of immigration issues. We provide specialist immigration advice (SLRA is regulated to provide advice at IAA Level 3) as well as a broad range of practical, social and therapeutic support services. SLRA also campaigns for a fairer immigration system, involving local people with lived experience in influencing local and national policy and practice.

We are looking for a Senior Immigration Advisor or Solicitor who will be responsible for the delivery of immigration advice and casework to service users in a wide range of circumstances, although most will be rough sleepers. The Role 

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Onboarding Coordinator to join our team and play a key role in welcoming and guiding new groups to join the FareShare Go programme. This role will be  the main point of contact for new charities during their first 6 weeks, ensuring they are set up for success through account setup, food safety compliance, scheduling logistics, and ongoing support.  As an Onboarding Co-ordinator, you will be allocated to manage the onboarding needs across a specific geographical area; you will need to grow your awareness and understanding of this area quickly; whilst also adapting to local contexts and operational variations. 

Main areas of responsibility 

• Relationship Building: Serve as the first point of contact for new groups, fostering trust and ensuring a positive onboarding experience that reflects the unique needs of their area. 

• Account Setup: Assist groups with setting up their collection accounts, ensuring all necessary information is completed and systems are accessible. 

• System training: Assist groups in understanding the various donation platforms available to them to ensure successful collections 

• Food Safety Checks: Guide groups through initial food safety requirements, checklists, and verifications to ensure compliance before their first collection. 

• Scheduling Collections: Coordinate and confirm collection schedules, including pickup days, times, and logistics tailored to the group’s capacity and location. 

• Ongoing Support: Maintain regular communication with each group during their start with the programme, offering support, troubleshooting, and feedback collection. 

• Documentation & Reporting: Track onboarding progress, maintain accurate records, and report milestones or concerns to the Onboarding Manager. 

• Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams to ensure a coordinated and seamless experience for new groups. 

• Regional Onboarding Oversight: Manage the onboarding of new groups across a defined geographical area or multiple regions, adjusting processes to suit local requirements and regional operational nuances.

• Indepth understanding of the FareShare Go programme and working closely with charities to deliver a service that meets their needs.

• Sound understanding of the FareShare Go onboarding requirements for charities, whilst also understanding  regional distinctions and complex  schedules 

• Experience in following FareShare Go’s escalation procedures and communicating with external stakeholders 

• Experience in customer service, specifically with issue resolution around store performance with charity donations. 

• Experience ensuring organization compliance with FareShare Go policies and procedures 

• Familiarity with food safety protocols and being confident in explaining key requirements to charities

• Experience understanding and managing multiple donation platforms simultaneously 

• Strong organisational skills with experience managing workflows across multiple locations, comfortable managing multiple onboarding processes simultaneously 

• Demonstrable use of competency with salesforce reporting, informing analysis and workstream prioritisation

What you'll be doing:

You’ll be responsible for creating high-quality, audience-focused content across digital and offline channels, supporting social media and email marketing, managing marketing collateral, and ensuring all communications reflect Kinship’s brand and values. • Ensure all content is in line with the charity’s brand, tone of voice, and accessibility standards. 

• Deliver regular monitoring on performance by tracking key metrics across digital channels (email marketing and social media) and feed into monthly reports. 

• Work in collaboration and co-production with kinship carers to ensure meaningful input and representation in the development of relevant plans and activities.

• Demonstrable marketing experience in an in-house or agency role. 

• Experience using digital marketing tools, including email marketing systems; design software, including Canva; social media platforms and photo and video editing software.
