The Role

This is a pivotal leadership role, reporting to the Associate Director of Finance and managing the Financial Partnering, Planning & Analysis Team. What the job involves
We’re looking for a brilliant and proactive Senior Copywriting Officer to lead the creation of compelling written content that engages our audiences, strengthens our brand voice, and helps raise vital funds to support men with, or at risk of, prostate cancer.

As our in-house copywriting expert, you’ll help shape messaging and creative direction for products and campaigns and play a key role in shaping our tone of voice across all communication. You’ll review and edit content, support colleagues to build their confidence and capability, and ensure everything we publish is clear, consistent and impactful.

You’ll take the lead on developing content and writing for key long-form products – including our supporter magazine, impact report and direct marketing appeals – transforming briefs into emotionally resonant, insight-led copy that drives supporter action across both print and digital channels.

We are looking for an experienced, resilient, and proactive Social Media Support Officer to join our digital team during a crucial phase of Dignity in Dying’s campaign. • Manage our online communities with empathy and sensitivity, identifying new campaigners, people with personal experience, and key stakeholders to get involved in the campaign.

Job Title: Teaching and Assessment Research Specialist

Reports To: Research Lead with mentorship provided by Prof Bill Lucas, Professor of Learning and Director of the Centre for Real-World Learning at the University of Winchester

Salary: up to £39,500 per annum

Contract: Full time, Fixed Term Contract until October 2027 (potential of extension, subject to the availability of project funding).

The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for a postgraduate-level researcher who wishes to combine their expertise in education research and astute understanding of real-life classroom practice. While the role will sit within the Chartered College of Teaching, the postholder will also receive mentoring from Professor Bill Lucas, Professor of Learning and Director of the Centre for Real-Life Learning at the University of Winchester, providing a rare opportunity to combine academically rigorous research with real-life application. As part of a project funded by the Comino Foundation, the Teaching and Assessment Research Specialist will help to increase teachers’ assessment literacy by managing a portfolio of assessment-themed online events, developing a suite of assessment-themed resources, co-ordinating the work of the Next Generation Assessment group and developing an overview of evidence-informed teaching and assessment strategies and how they link to intended student outcomes, based on a series of rapid evidence reviews.

Over the course of the assignment, you will support the Head of Research and Policy and work closely with the Research Lead and the Events and Engagement Manager to create and manage an engaging portfolio of online, assessment-themed events and resources.

This would be an ideal opportunity for anyone with proven expertise in and understanding of the links between evidence-informed teaching and assessment approaches and how they link to desired learning outcomes. You will:

• rapidly review evidence of assessment methods and pedagogies designed to cultivate knowledge, skills and dispositions of pupils, identifying gaps
• with support, produce evidence synthesis for a small number of key methods, not currently widely used by teachers
• manage a portfolio of online events aimed at developing teachers’ and school leaders’ levels of assessment literacy
• co-ordinate the work of the Next Generation Assessment group
• create online resources for the Chartered College member platform relating to evidence-informed teaching and assessment.

The postholder will also be required to collate policy announcements around assessment and monitor any developments relating to the use of EdTech and AI for assessment. The ultimate aim of this work is to help illustrate that the common ‘trad’ versus ‘prog’ debates that still dominate many discussions in education are ultimately unhelpful and teachers need a wide range of different teaching approaches to help support a range of intended learning outcomes. This would be an ideal opportunity for anyone with proven expertise in and understanding of the links between evidence-informed teaching and assessment approaches and how they link to desired learning outcomes.

Skills and experience

Essential

• Postgraduate qualification in Education or a relevant field
• Experience conducting rapid evidence reviews relating to teaching, learning and assessment
• Experience of teaching in schools in the UK or internationally
• Experience producing content for a range of audiences including teachers, school leaders and policymakers
• Excellent knowledge and understanding of effective, evidence-informed approaches to teaching, learning, and assessment
• Experience developing and managing an online portfolio of events and resources
• Experience managing and chairing meetings, including the production of written summaries of discussions for a wide range of audiences

• A PhD in a relevant field
• Experience presenting complex information in a concise, graphic format
• Experience working with Canva, InDesign or other graphic design software

We're seeking an enthusiastic Education Coordinator to help shape the future of chemistry education.
 
With a focus on Northern Ireland, you'll lead regional initiatives, tailoring them to local needs and supporting teachers through workshops and online sessions. You'll build strong partnerships with local education authorities, schools, and teacher networks, and collaborate with national organisations to advance our education policy across the UK and Ireland. You’ll monitor educational developments, contribute to policy-influencing documents, and share our views with policy makers and other stakeholders.
 
This role will require extensive travel throughout Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, including attending and running events for teachers and student teachers, working with members, and meeting key education contacts. Expect to travel about twice a week, depending on the academic timetable, and occasionally work weekends and non-core hours.
 
Responsibilities:
 
Regional engagement and delivery: Lead the project management and delivery of education initiatives tailored to the needs of the local education community, aligned with our strategy. This includes understanding teacher needs, delivering direct support (e.g, workshops, online sessions), advising on the use of our resources, and commissioning internal support to enhance the impact of our services.
 
Local curriculum expertise and relevance: Champion and advise on local curricula to ensure our education programmes remain relevant and impactful for all teachers across the UK and Ireland. This includes providing guidance and advice to colleagues and partners on best practices for local curricula.
 
Partnership and stakeholder engagement:

• Develop and maintain successful partnerships and relationships with organisations and education stakeholders in the region (including local education authorities, schools, and teacher networks) to support the effective delivery of our programmes and initiatives. This also includes engaging with local members to act as advocates for chemistry and showcase best practice in school engagement activities.
• Build and maintain strategic links and collaborations with national organisations, government agencies, sister societies, and other policy influencers to inform the development and advancement of our education policy and resources.
 
Contribution to education policy and intelligence: Contribute to our education policy activities by monitoring educational developments, compiling and analysing relevant information, and drafting policy-influencing documents such as consultation responses and position statements. 
 
What we are looking for:

• A degree in science, preferably in the chemical sciences, or an equivalent qualification, together with evidence of working with schools, ideally with a teaching qualification.
• An understanding of school level, further and higher education and a breadth of knowledge of the education systems in the UK and Ireland together with a deep knowledge of the local curricula.
• Experience of stakeholder relationship management and an understanding of customer requirements, including those of: school teachers; FE teachers, HE academics and support staff; careers advisors; employers; governments and its agencies, and non-government bodies.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including a proven ability to write effectively for different audiences and deliver clear and engaging presentations both online and in-person.
• Good project management and team working skills and experience, with the ability to work independently.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape a new senior role within our organisation. The Interim Head of Research and Campaigns will lead our Research function and advocacy efforts, ensuring that evidence-based insights drive our campaigns, policy work, and public engagement.

Recently kicking off our new ‘Creating Positive Change Together’ strategy, coproduced by over 130 staff, volunteers, clients and partners, Groundswell has ambitious plans around influencing more change and amplifying voices to promote healthier lives and a better future for anyone who has experienced homelessness. This role directly aligns with these strategic plans, to refine and use innovative participatory research centring lived experience, share and amplify insight from people with experience of homelessness, and increase our campaigning activities to change systems and break down the barriers that stand in people’s way to a healthier life and more hopeful future.

This role has been created on an interim basis to assess its impact and effectiveness, with a key focus on reviewing the priorities, progression and support of our Research Team and making recommendations for the future regarding this new role. The role will sit within the wider Participation, Progression and Creating Change team.

Role Overview 

We are seeking a Head of Policy and Community Engagement to lead our policy advocacy and community engagement initiatives. This role is crucial in helping our members develop a collective voice, influence policy at both local and national levels, and drive long-lasting, systemic change. The successful candidate will work closely with London-based members and grassroots organisations, convening and facilitating opportunities to develop a unified and impactful voice and advocate for systemic change on key issues such as climate justice and resilience, employment inequality and economic inclusion, particularly in the context of public sector investment and the green economy. They will have a passion for human rights, equality and social justice, and strong policy advocacy and stakeholder engagement experience. 

Key Responsibilities 

Policy Advocacy & Engagement 

• Support Member Voice: Facilitate opportunities for our members (and their networks) to develop a unified and impactful voice on key policy issues.

• Drive structural change: Advocate for systemic, rather than piecemeal, policy reform on issues relating to climate action, law and economic opportunity.

• Policy research & analysis: synthesize research data, commission research, and stay informed on the priorities of national government, Greater London Authority and local borough councils, as well as those of funders, to provide members with strategic analysis and support in developing and influencing policy. 

• Focus on intersectionality: Promote the adoption of an intersectional, pan-equality, and human rights-based framework in policy areas such as the equality and human rights legal framework, climate justice and social investment. 

Community & Network Development 

• Develop and strengthen membership model: Lead efforts to develop and adapt our membership and engagement model, ensuring it remains responsive to the evolving needs of our London network and the wider movement.

• Equip grassroots groups: Work closely with grassroots organisations to build their capacity and influence on key issues, supporting them to engage directly with policymakers and participate meaningfully in policy debates.

What skills and experiences we’re looking for: 

• Strong policy expertise: demonstrable experience of analysing evidence from a range of sources (lived experience, think tank and academic reports,) and working collaboratively with communities to identify the root causes of inequality and create policy solutions. Ideally in one or more of the areas of climate justice, economic opportunity, and social inclusion. 

• Community Engagement: Experience of working with grassroots organisations and local communities, with a focus on building capacity and amplifying their voices at local borough, London and UK government levels.

Founded in the aftermath of the Second World War, Cumberland Lodge works with young people to understand the causes and impacts of social conflict and division, developing the next generation of leaders to create more just and inclusive futures. Our current programme focuses on four key areas: Youth & Democracy; Rule of Law; Freedom of Religion and Belief; and International Dialogue in the Workplace.

As we approach our 80th anniversary we have ambitious plans to scale up our activities and are looking for an experienced Fundraising Officer with strong storytelling skills and a passion for making a difference.

This is a permanent part-time role, two days a week. The successful candidate will join a thriving organisation as part of a small Programme team under the leadership of the Programme Director.

We are seeking to appoint a strong team player who can also work independently, who is well-organised, with excellent communication and inter-personal skills. They must be able to demonstrate success in fund-raising, and have strong knowledge of the fund-raising landscape in the UK, and preferably internationally. Main Duties:

Funding Development

Research and identify funding opportunities aligned with Cumberland Lodge programmes.

· Write compelling, youth and/or education focused funding applications and proposals.

Relationship Management

· Provide timely updates, reports, and impact stories.

Further information

Hours: 14 hours per week (through an annualised hours working pattern).

Location: Remote working although the successful candidate will be expected to work from Cumberland Lodge a minimum of one day per month.  Applicants should be aware that Cumberland Lodge is not easily accessible by public transport, so alternative forms of transport (bicycle, car) are helpful.

Annual leave: 33 days including Bank Holidays which will be pro-rata. The charity is closed over the Christmas period which will be deducted from the leave allocation.
