The role in brief

Key responsibilities

• Develop and lead the fundraising strategy: securing income from trusts, foundations, major donors, corporates, and other sources.
• Build, deepen and manage relationships with funders, partners and stakeholders to secure existing and new funding.
• Monitor fundraising performance, budgets, forecasts and contribute to organisational financial sustainability.
• Work operationally as required across the organisation: supporting RLS’s systems, processes and leadership team to ensure effective delivery and growth.

Working arrangements

About the role

The Director of Fundraising will play a pivotal role in driving income growth and ensuring the long-term sustainability of King's Trust International. Primary location of role

About The Role

The Unity Project (TUP) supports people who are facing poverty and homelessness because their immigration status allows them ‘no recourse to public funds’ (NRPF).  We believe NRPF should not exist and we are working to end it. Until then, we seek to minimise its impact by supporting people to make the ‘change of conditions’ (CoC) application to access public funds. However, as the number of people living under NRPF continues to grow, we know we will never be able to meet the need for CoCs. Ensuring that our knowledge and experience is shared - with advisors, support services, community groups and individuals who could make applications themselves - is vital. Raising awareness of our work also supports our income diversification strategy by building corporate partnerships and individual donations.

In this role, you will be leading The Unity Project’s outreach and communications work in order to increase awareness of the Change of Conditions process and the support The Unity Project can offer to individuals and organisations.  Your first priorities will include mapping CoC provision across the country; working with the Director to design and implement a communications strategy to engage applicants, advice organisations, corporate partners and donors; and creating a suite of CoC resources to share online. As you develop in the role, you will deliver outreach and information sessions online and in the community. We hope that over time you will have the opportunity to grow, take on new responsibilities and help to shape how we do outreach and communications as we evolve.

What the job involves

Our Events and Community Fundraising team raises funds for Prostate Cancer UK through a programme of owned products, activities and events, in addition to third-party challenges. Alongside our two owned events, March for Men and the Grand Depart Classic, we also recruit teams in events such as the TCS London Marathon, Great North Run and the London Landmarks Half Marathon.

In this role, you’ll project manage a number of third-party events which take place across the UK, including our teams at the London Landmarks Half Marathon and the Royal Parks Half Marathon. You’ll also be tasked with identifying new opportunities across the UK in the charity events market.

Your responsibilities will span the full event cycle; from setting budgets and developing marketing plans, to building supporter communications, managing event logistics, providing on-the-day support, and overseeing remittance and thanking — ensuring we maximise income and deliver exceptional supporter experiences.

Alongside this, you’ll work with other teams within Prostate Cancer UK to support the full calendar of events and take the lead with supporting our volunteers at our events. Working with our Communications teams, you’ll ensure that we make the most of every opportunity, from promoting the events to warm and new audiences, identifying and building relationships with the strongest case studies, to ensuring a high proportion of event participants continue to support us long after they cross the finish line.

What we want from you

We’re looking for a dedicated person to join our established, experienced and high-performing Events and Community Fundraising team, that has ambitious plans to grow income to £16M+ by 2030. You’ll have experience working in a sporting events team with a background of assisting or leading with the delivery of large-scale events, covering aspects such as marketing, communications and event delivery. Ideally with a fundraising background to enable you to hit the ground running. You’ll also have excellent communication skills and can motivate and inspire for our cause. Strong organisational skills will be combined with the ability to prioritise a busy workload and work to tight deadlines.

You’ll have the energy and passion to provide crucial input to this sector-leading team. This exciting role will lead on all aspects of the finance function, including managing a team of two, overseeing the production of year-end accounts in collaboration with internal stakeholders and auditors, and preparing monthly management accounts for reports to the Senior managers and trustees. Responsibilities also include stewardship of the Foundation’s liquid assets, leading the budgeting and forecasting processes, verifying monthly payroll prepared by HR, and ensuring the efficient operation of the purchase ledger function.

What does the role involve?

• Coordinate across the Foundation and help prepare the annual statutory accounts and all schedules for audit and be the lead liaison with the auditors.
• Prepare monthly financial reports and budgets for review by senior management, providing analysis and other measures of performance.
• Lead on improving processes and systems across all aspects of finance and liaising with the wider organisation to drive these forward.
