Launched in the summer of 2019 on a 2,000-acre estate in Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons), Wales, the Penpont Project is the largest intergenerational nature restoration project of its kind anywhere in the world. Initiated by Action for Conservation, the Penpont Estate, Tirmawr Farm, and a Youth Leadership Group of 12-18 year olds from diverse backgrounds, the project aims to restore nature and culture in this special place and demonstrate how youth leadership and ambition can advance nature’s recovery at a time of acute ecological crisis.
We are looking for a Learning & Engagement Coordinator to join our flagship Penpont Project, empowering young people and intergenerational communities to connect with, feel inspired by and take action for nature. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the success of a unique and innovative project, maximising positive outcomes for young people and the environment.

Start date: around 22 September, exact date to be agreed
Contract: Part-time, fixed-term for 12 months, with possibility to extend duration and/or increase working hours when additional funding is secured
Starting salary: £16,872.76 - £17,590.75 (equivalent to £28,121.27 - £29,317.92 FTE) depending on experience
Working hours: 21 hours / 3 days per week. This role requires evening and weekend work, including regular residential/overnight stays (6-10 times per year). Time off in lieu (TOIL) can be taken for overtime work.
Location: Penpont, Brecon (Wales). This role requires regular travel within the local region as well as some national travel for team events.
About the role
As Learning & Engagement Coordinator, you will support the successful delivery and ongoing development of our learning and engagement work as part of the Penpont Project, playing an active role in empowering young people and intergenerational communities to connect with, feel inspired by and take action for nature. You will proactively engage the Penpont Project’s Youth Leadership Group, school and youth groups, local community members and other stakeholders, and will help to design, organise and run a wide variety of events and activities for them to take part in. These will include both day visits and residential stays (including at our brand new Forest Camp site) as well as online sessions. You will also support our Youth Rangers programme and similar professional development opportunities. In doing so, you will play a vital role in strengthening our flagship intergenerational approach to nature restoration and maximising positive outcomes for young people and the planet.
In your day-to-day, you will work closely with our Penpont Learning & Engagement Manager as well as with our Land-based Projects and Policy Lead, Penpont Project Manager and Technical Lead and with our project partners, the Penpont Estate and Tirmawr Farm, to make sure our learning and engagement activities are aligned with wider project work and actions happening on the land.
To succeed in this role, you will be a highly organised, creative, flexible and self-motivated project coordinator who thrives in a varied and dynamic work environment. You will also be an inspiring communicator and skilled facilitator who can engage and build relationships with a wider range of stakeholders and communities, especially young people.
Key responsibilities:
- Engage young people and the wider community around Penpont to take part in our learning and engagement programme and wider activities on site.
- Facilitate the activity of the Penpont Youth Leadership Group during and outside of residential visits to Penpont and ensure young people are equipped with the skills, knowledge and confidence ot engage fully with the project.
- Support the planning, coordination and delivery of a bespoke learning programme for school/youth groups that inspires and empowers young people to connect with and act for nature and aligns with actions happening on the land.
- Support the planning, coordination and delivery of regular community action days at Penpont, engaging local community members and supporting them to undertake practical nature restoration work in line with the project's action plan.
- Support the planning, coordination and delivery of events bringing together intergenerational stakeholders to collectively design a future vision for people and nature at Penpont and the wider Upper Usk catchment area.
- Support the running of the Penpont Youth Rangers programme and help to oversee the Rangers' day-to-day activities.
- Support monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) activities at Penpont to understand the impact of the project and facilitate learnings.
What we are looking for
- Experience of working with young people, ideally aged 12-18, with proven ability to engage, motivate and support young people from diverse backgrounds
- Strong environmental knowledge and practical skills
- Great facilitation skills with a track record of facilitating stimulating, interactive and inclusive group activities both in-person and online, including practical activities in an outdoor setting
- Experience of organising and running community and/or educational events from start to finish, including liaising with partners and participants, managing logistics, safeguarding and health and safety
- Excellent organisational and time management skills and ability to plan ahead, work across multiple tasks and prioritise effectively to meet deadlines
- A positive, proactive and self-reliant approach to work and ability to work independently
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills and ability to build and maintain positive relationships with colleagues, partners, young people and other stakeholders
- Good IT skills
- Willingness to work outside of usual office hours and to travel regionally to meet the needs of the project
- A full clean driving licence valid in the UK

Role Requirements
You will play a vital role in coordinating care and supporting the management of the House, serving as a key contact for families and the multidisciplinary team. Collaborating with the House Manager and Placement Managers, you will help ensure that care is effectively planned, resourced, and delivered safely at all times.
You will support the house manager to ensure that the care on house or houses enables the children to access their education and/or rehabilitation sessions, clinics, and leisure activities in their timetable.
You will work as part of a leadership team comprising of a house manager, deputy house manager / deputy clinical lead and a clinical lead (per house) responsible for one or two houses within a rotational model. You will individually (not as a team) rotate at a house level on a twelve-monthly basis.
With experience of working in a complex environment, across a large and diverse workforce, you will be exceptionally organised with a high-level of attention to detail. The Research Officer role enjoys a varied workload and brings the opportunity to work with autonomy and develop new skills within a friendly and dynamic team. Duties and Key Responsibilites
Sarcoma UK’s research programme
- To support Sarcoma UK’s grant application processes under guidance from the Acting Head of Research. This will include calls for proposals, identifying expert peer reviewers, administering a high-quality peer and lay review process, communication with applicants and potential applicants, administration of grant awards and supporting patient involvement.
- To provide support to the Grant Review Panel and Research Strategy Committee, including organising meetings and preparing minutes.
- To manage Sarcoma UK’s portfolio of active research grants, under guidance from the Acting Head of Research. This will include administration of newly awarded grants, monitoring progress of current grants, oversight of grant finances and reporting on final outputs.
- To support opportunities for patient involvement within the research programme, including managing a network of lay reviewers and facilitating new opportunities, with support from the Patient Involvement Coordinator.
- To support new developments in Sarcoma UK’s research programme, including organising and attending events, collaborative funding calls and initiatives to support early career researchers.
Research Impact and Communications
- To monitor and gather outputs and long-term impact of research grants funded by Sarcoma UK and support in ensuring these are shared with internal and external audiences.
- To plan and produce engaging and reactive and proactive communications about sarcoma research, including website, social media, written and video content, working with the Acting Head of Research and Communications Team to ensure our research activities and outcomes are shared with the sarcoma community and wider public.
- To proactively engage with grant holders to gather impactful insights and to support engaging communication about sarcoma research.
- To regularly review and update Sarcoma UK’s website with progress updates on research grants and promote funding opportunities.
- To support work undertaken by the Fundraising Team where required, such as lab tours and supplying information about funded grants for donor reports.
External relationships
- To be a point of contact for Sarcoma UK grant holders and their host institutions.
- To maintain positive relationships with Sarcoma UK’s research panels, potential grant applications, researchers and clinicians, and the wider sarcoma research community.
- To work directly with a range of people personally affected by sarcoma to place the voice of lived experience at the heart of our research programme.

- To support the integration of the research programme across Sarcoma UK.

Role Description
The Programmes Executive plays a key role supporting our community of schools during their time on the programme across the school year. They will support the design and delivery of Bite Back in Schools to ensure the best possible user experience for young people, their teachers and their schools, and to ensure the programme makes the greatest possible impact within the project timeline.
The Programmes Executive will report to the Programmes Manager, and will work closely with colleagues across Bite Back, in particular with our comms, digital, youth and policy teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Relationship management

Provide ongoing support to schools throughout their time on the programme, building strong working relationships with participating schools.

Support communication with all schools, providing a point of contact for the coordinator and lead teacher in each school.

Support monitoring and evaluation through creation of surveys, ensuring completion of baseline and end of year surveys, and analysis of data submitted (working with our Evaluation Manager).

Lead the planning, creation, and distribution of our termly newsletter, highlighting school achievements, amplifying youth voices, and inspiring action across our network.

Provide timely responses to school queries, manage a shared inbox and alert the Programmes Manager of any potential risks.

Proactively seek feedback from teachers and young people on our programmes

Ensure opportunities for schools to engage in at least two one-on-one meetings with our team during the school year.
Community management

Celebrate and share examples of best practice and impactful social action projects amongst our community of schools.

Deliver training and webinars for schools.

Manage and grow engagement with school groups through our social media platforms, fostering a sense of community and promoting active participation.

Grow our movement - supporting the recruitment of future cohorts by promoting the Bite Back in Schools programme, distributing recruitment comms, holding set up calls with interested schools, and guiding schools through the application and enrolment process, working closely with the Programmes Manager on the design of these processes.
Programme delivery

Schedule and organise visits to schools, agreeing agendas with the schools in advance to include elements including meeting pupils and teachers, leading feedback sessions and focus groups and supporting the development of their social action campaigns.

Schedule and deliver assemblies with schools partaking in the programme.

Ensure schools submit invoices on time as part of their grant funding, providing support where needed and coordinating with the finance team to ensure prompt processing.

Book and arrange assemblies, coordinating between schools and our Bite Back Ambassadors.

Support the School Ambassadors with travel logistics as they deliver assemblies in schools across England and Scotland.

Maintain and regularly update programme management software and associated data to ensure accurate and up to date information for all participating schools.

Ensure successful end-to-end support for the 100+ schools participating in the programme throughout the next school year.
Project support

Provide support to Programme Manager in the delivery of projects, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and scope.

Assist in the delivery of the Local Authority programme, including traveling as needed to facilitate workshops and provide support to the team’s operational requirements.

Provide support for the primary school pilot programme and contribute to the creation and development of engaging resources tailored for primary school use.

Provide ad hoc input to evolving organisational requirements as directed by senior team members.

We are excited to be recruiting a part-time role for an Operations Manager in our dynamic voluntary sector adolescent mental health service.
Open Door is a young people’s mental health charity that has been based in Haringey, North London for 49 years. It aims to improve mental health and life-chances of young people. We provide an ‘Open Door’ to free, high quality psychological therapy to 12–24-year-olds delivered by experienced and highly trained clinicians. We also support parents and carers, struggling with the issues their children face. We aim for access to be simple and over half of those we support, self-refer. Many young people who come to us have significant mental health difficulties and have faced barriers to services. Open Door delivers evidence informed practice and has been commended for our ambitious approach to outcome driven care.
Open Door received national recognition for impact, as a 2024 finalist for Health Service Journal (HSJ) Award for Reducing Inequality and Improving Outcomes for Children and Young People Open Door is community embedded, integrated into the local mental health infrastructure, commissioned by North Central London Integrated Care Board and part of the Haringey Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service single-point-of-access. We have a strategic voice which is used to advocate for young people’s mental health and influence practice.
