Support And Engagement Worker Jobs
We have two exciting new opportunities for those with a passion for racial justice, equality and inclusion to join our Diocesan staff team, as we seek to live out our commitment to racial justice.
- Racial Justice Development Officer
- Racial Justice Training and Resources Officer
Almost 40% of our churches are attended by a majority of UKME/GMH congregations and a large proportion of the pupils in our schools also come from ethnically diverse backgrounds. We recognise, celebrate, and embrace this diversity, committing to an integrated Diocesan approach to racial justice, as reflected in our Diocesan Vision, and prioritising and supporting healing and reconciliation in our communities.
In 2021 we launched the Diocese of Southwark’s Anti Racism Charter (ARC) which builds on earlier work in the Diocese and developed a subsequent 12-point plan to embed the ARC in real action.
We have worked hard to embed the ARC into our Diocesan vision and our management oversight structures and are now focusing even more intentionally on our recruitment, training and education challenges in our parishes and in the communities they serve. We have two new roles to help us on our journey:
These are great opportunities for someone to make a real difference to the work and progress of the Diocese, and more widely the National Church, in advancing in the area of racial justice for all.

About the Role
The Homestead Park has been cherished by communities for 120 years since it was gifted to the people of York by social reformer Seebohm Rowntree (son of Joseph Rowntree) so that all individuals, regardless of class or income, could enjoy time in nature.
At JRF, we’re honouring this heritage and turning the leaves of a new chapter in the story of Homestead Park. We’re looking to the future to understand how on our home soil over the next 100 years we can grow opportunities to support JRF’s wider mission which is to ‘speed up and support the transition to a more equitable and just future, free from poverty in which people and planet can flourish’. We’ll draw inspiration from Rowntree’s radical roots and cultivate the conditions for people to come together to explore the challenges of these times. They’ll connect with themselves, each other and nature, fostering resilient communities where people and the natural world are able to flourish together and plant the seeds for hopeful futures.
Seebohm’s gift represents a tradition of giving back to the community and ensuring that public spaces remain accessible to all. We want to uphold this tradition and not only preserve a piece of history, but also reaffirm our dedication to creating a park and pavilion community space that serves the needs and interests of the people it belongs to.
We will be developing a ten year plan to help to guide our work in Homestead Park and we’re creating two exciting new roles to support this work: the Head of Homestead Park role and Community Engagement Lead. We’ll work alongside community groups and local people to steer the development of the Park and understand how it can serve communities today and for generations to come.
About You
You will have experience of developing and delivering a strategy to support the evolution of a park or green space. You'll be a great leader, and you'll have experience in developing and supporting engaged, highly motivated teams. You'll have a genuine passion for community engagement, placemaking, and creating inclusive spaces. You’ll have a strong commitment to climate action and climate justice and how this links with social justice and nature-based wellbeing. You’ll be a great communicator and you’ll be skilled at connecting with diverse stakeholders and build consensus around shared goals.
Applications are welcome from all, regardless of age, disability, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, religion or belief, race, sex, sexual orientation, trans status or socioeconomic background. We recognise that we cannot truly be an anti-poverty organisation unless we are also an anti-racist organisation, and we positively encourage applications from people with experience of living in poverty.
We are a Disability Confident Employer. This means that we are committed to the recruitment, progression and retention of disabled individuals. We shall also offer interviews to disabled candidates who meet the minimum criteria for the job. If you have a disability, please tell us if you would like to be considered for an interview under the Disability Confident Scheme.
How to Apply

Exeter-based cancer charity, Force, is well known and much loved for its incredible work supporting people who have had a cancer diagnosis and their families with a range of support. Their longstanding CEO is now retiring and the search has begun to find that special person to leader the charity into the future. We are delighted and honoured to be supporting the Board with this important appointment.
The current CEO has worked hard to ensure that the nurturing and caring aspect of the charity’s work is reflected across the organisation. You can see this in the way that everyone is treated – clients, families, staff, volunteers, supporters and trustees. We are looking for someone who understands and upholds these values but equally has the resilience and clarity of thought to navigate through the complex landscape of cancer services and support. You will have held a senior leadership role within the voluntary sector for at least two years and understand the legal framework within which charities operate. Previous experience of working with a voluntary Board of trustee/directors will be hugely helpful and, naturally, you will be financially astute.
Of course, you will be an inspiring and confident communicator, able to engage with and present to a range of audiences as well as working with local media.

We’re looking for someone with a passion for influencing positive social change and a drive for empowering others to advocate for change.
Alongside student leaders and staff, the Social Policy Lead ensures that the Guild is an expert on the issues that affect Exeter students, so that student leaders are empowered to advocate for change and help all students to Love Exeter.
You will lead research into issues impacting students during their studies, such as such as housing, finances, health, wellbeing and safety, and share insights and knowledge with colleagues and students that enables them to drive belonging, provide support and empower students to make change. The role also plays a key part in ensuring colleagues and students have the skills to interpret policies and influence change.
Who are we?
The Students’ Guild is the University of Exeter’s students’ union, led by students for students. We’re an independent charity, offering a wide range of opportunities, services and support to help students get the most out of their unique journeys at university. This includes everything from social activities to making sure things are going well on their academic course. We have over 100 student groups and all of our work is led by, and in the best interest of, our members.
The Guild is a truly rewarding place to work. Our talented and passionate staff make a real difference to the lives of students every single day, working together to achieve the Guild’s purpose: to shape an excellent student experience for all students at Exeter by empowering them to take their place in the world and make a positive difference. We are looking for people who recognise that the Guild is student-led and share a genuine passion for student engagement and empowerment. If you share a commitment to our values and want to be part of a radically inclusive organisation with a seriously exciting future ahead, we can’t wait to hear from you.
What will you bring?
- You’ll have some experience in scoping, initiating, and managing projects and/or campaigns. Also, to have knowledge in the key issues that are impacting students in Higher Education.
- You’ll be able to analyse and evaluate policies to be able to promote change for our members, and to be able to determine how policies effect different groups of people.
- You know how to work well as part of a team and collaborate effectively across multiple teams to achieve a shared outcome.
We offer lots of great benefits including enhanced pay for expectant parents, at least 6-weeks’ holiday, sustainable travel incentives and a confidential employee advice service and assistance programme. We’re committed to helping you achieve a healthy balance between your work and home life through a real commitment to flexible working. We also provide access to great development, helping you to gain valuable experience in the charity sector and beyond, and ensuring that you have opportunities to grow your career at the Guild and beyond.
Inclusion is central to the Guild. We approach our work collaboratively, empower our people and celebrate our uniqueness. If you’re driven to empower others and achieve great things, you’ll fit right in. Our people are proud of who they are and value each other’s differences, and we are committed to creating a diverse community that is radically inclusive of race, gender, age, religion, identity and experience.

Helping students to Love Exeter.
Disability Advice Service Lambeth (dasl) is Lambeth’s peer-led Disabled People’s Organisation.
You will lead a two-year project contributing to the work of the No Wrong Door partnership – local organisations and local residents working together to ensure there is ‘No Wrong Door’ for Black Disabled people seeking employment, as they can expect excellent support from any organisation.
We want to change the system, influencing employment support providers and their Commissioners to ensure support for Black Disabled people who are seeking employment is appropriate, accessible and inclusive.

Your role will involve working primarily with Black Disabled Lambeth residents.
