Job Title: Teaching and Assessment Research Specialist

Reports To: Research Lead with mentorship provided by Prof Bill Lucas, Professor of Learning and Director of the Centre for Real-World Learning at the University of Winchester

Salary: up to £39,500 per annum

Contract: Full time, Fixed Term Contract until October 2027 (potential of extension, subject to the availability of project funding).

Hours: A full working week is 35 hours and we offer flexibility with hours.

The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for a postgraduate-level researcher who wishes to combine their expertise in education research and astute understanding of real-life classroom practice. While the role will sit within the Chartered College of Teaching, the postholder will also receive mentoring from Professor Bill Lucas, Professor of Learning and Director of the Centre for Real-Life Learning at the University of Winchester, providing a rare opportunity to combine academically rigorous research with real-life application. As part of a project funded by the Comino Foundation, the Teaching and Assessment Research Specialist will help to increase teachers’ assessment literacy by managing a portfolio of assessment-themed online events, developing a suite of assessment-themed resources, co-ordinating the work of the Next Generation Assessment group and developing an overview of evidence-informed teaching and assessment strategies and how they link to intended student outcomes, based on a series of rapid evidence reviews.

Over the course of the assignment, you will support the Head of Research and Policy and work closely with the Research Lead and the Events and Engagement Manager to create and manage an engaging portfolio of online, assessment-themed events and resources.

This would be an ideal opportunity for anyone with proven expertise in and understanding of the links between evidence-informed teaching and assessment approaches and how they link to desired learning outcomes. You will:

• rapidly review evidence of assessment methods and pedagogies designed to cultivate knowledge, skills and dispositions of pupils, identifying gaps
• with support, produce evidence synthesis for a small number of key methods, not currently widely used by teachers
• manage a portfolio of online events aimed at developing teachers’ and school leaders’ levels of assessment literacy
• co-ordinate the work of the Next Generation Assessment group
• create online resources for the Chartered College member platform relating to evidence-informed teaching and assessment.

The postholder will also be required to collate policy announcements around assessment and monitor any developments relating to the use of EdTech and AI for assessment. The ultimate aim of this work is to help illustrate that the common ‘trad’ versus ‘prog’ debates that still dominate many discussions in education are ultimately unhelpful and teachers need a wide range of different teaching approaches to help support a range of intended learning outcomes. This would be an ideal opportunity for anyone with proven expertise in and understanding of the links between evidence-informed teaching and assessment approaches and how they link to desired learning outcomes.

Skills and experience

Essential

• Postgraduate qualification in Education or a relevant field
• Experience conducting rapid evidence reviews relating to teaching, learning and assessment
• Experience of teaching in schools in the UK or internationally
• Experience producing content for a range of audiences including teachers, school leaders and policymakers
• Excellent knowledge and understanding of effective, evidence-informed approaches to teaching, learning, and assessment
• Experience developing and managing an online portfolio of events and resources
• Experience managing and chairing meetings, including the production of written summaries of discussions for a wide range of audiences

Desirable

• A PhD in a relevant field
• Experience presenting complex information in a concise, graphic format
• Experience working with Canva, InDesign or other graphic design software
• Publications in peer-reviewed journals
• Experience writing grant applications

About the role

Our People and Culture team are hiring a Payroll and Pensions Administrator to join the team to support with ensuring our staff are paid efficiently, accurately, and on time. You will play a pivotal part of the team to support with the preparation and processing of monthly payroll for all, coordinating effective and efficient end-to-end payroll and pensions administration, plus any additional relevant activities. You will utilise the tools and resources available to ensure we meet the needs of all our stakeholders and comply with legal matters. The role will further include:

• Taking ownership of administrative tasks in the payroll and pensions process, being the point of contact for enquiries in this area.

Job Description

The role of Young Person's Practitioner (Risk and Resilience) is an excellent opportunity to make a direct and valued difference to the lives of children and young people (C&YP), who are at significant risk of experiencing child exploitation, substance misuse, or going missing from home.

Providing tailored support and guidance to children, young people, and families, this role will actively contribute to achieving high standards of care, quality, and positive outcomes - supporting service users to fulfil their potential, through consistent and meaningful participation.

Main Duties:

• Providing tailored one-to-one support, guidance, and interventions.
• Assessing the needs of children and young people, determining appropriate support plans and pathways, and informing risk reduction plans - supporting access to additional or specialist services where necessary.
• Ensuring that referrals, support, care, and risk management are of a high quality, with ease of transition.
• Developing sustainable joint service work with referring agencies, local authorities, children’s social care, and children and families services (CFS).
• Ensuring timely and appropriate data recording – including tracking, outcome monitoring, KPI monitoring, and assisting with the production of feedback reports.
• Providing consultation, information, training, and presentations, to a wide range of stakeholders, from varied settings (we can help to build your skills in training provision if required).

This role works in partnership with a wide range of partner agencies and commissioners, providing continuous opportunities to build your network and knowledge within the Children’s Social Care Sector.  We will also support you to build service-area specialisms, in the areas of Substance Misuse, Child Exploitation, Missing from Home, or Families work. Our team works to raise the essential voluntary income that helps Anthony Nolan to save the lives of people with blood cancer. You will do this by reviewing and developing the Individual Giving programme to achieve our £3.7 million income forecast, along with managing the expenditure budget. You will put in place an audience-centric and insight-driven Individual Giving programme and propositions to best recruit, retain and develop the existing base of supporters. You will bring strong financial modelling and analytical skills to ensure our programme is insight and income driven.

As the Individual Giving Manager, you will work with your team of two senior officers to implement an integrated programme, whilst also project managing key high-impact individual giving campaigns. You will ensure that all campaigns are managed effectively, implementing, and promoting best practice in integrated fundraising campaign management across regular giving, lottery, raffle, cash and emergency appeals, through channels ranging from F2F, digital, telemarketing and direct mail.

Your role is to manage a range of Central Services for the Eikon Charity and to be a familiar constant presence in the Eikon offices. Central Services includes IT, Data Compliance, Health and Safety, Facilities. Facilities includes the site at Fullbrook and the associated site maintenance of the cabins and the garden. In addition to this you will line manage the reception function on site. A portion of the role will be managing outsourced providers who are accountable to support the specialist nature of these services. You will also support the service data management work, this involves monthly reporting and service data provision, in accordance with the reporting calendar.

Responsibilities 

IT Management

• Manage the operational IT delivery via Eikon’s IT partner (ramsac) 
• Manage the continuous improvement of the IT infrastructure
• Oversee and direct the work and tasks of the data officer (IT support)
• Attend quarterly management meetings with outsourced IT provider including technical IT consultant visits
• Oversee Help Desk approvals
• Review monthly total IT estate in partnership with ramsac and Data Officer
• IT hardware, software and comms:
• Manage the relationship with repair partner (one touch) and disposal partner (CPR)
• Manage the procurement processes for hardware, the installation and allocation of hardware (e.g. printers, AV equipment, laptop, mobile devices, wifi infrastructure etc.) with the support of the Data Officer

• Oversee the MS license estate and allocation of MS software and our third party applications

Data Protection and Management

• Ensure Data Protection Impact Assessments are in place across the organisation
• Recording and reporting of routine data breaches, escalating if significant breach has occurred

Data Reporting (Services)

• Support with the provision of data to help monitor and evaluate all services in line with ambitions 
• Collaborate with line manage on bespoke data requests
• Support the organisation in ensuring data integrity of reports 
• Manage the monthly reporting templates (Mindworks outputs, Data Protection Impact Assessments, Internal outputs and Internal outcomes)
• Manage the quarterly reporting templates (Mindworks outcomes, Innovations Grant, Youth Support Practitioners end of term reporting, Fundraising Strategic reports, data for exec report and data for bespoke reporting requests)

Fire, Health and Safety

• Responsible for fire, health and safety management and standards across the whole organisation, supported by a specialist organisation (Croner)
• Responsible for managing the Health and Safety relationships with the outsourced provider (Croner) 
• Responsibilities include but aren’t limited to:

  • Ensuring Fire Health and safety procedures in place for the Fullbrook site

Facilities

• Manage the facilities at Fullbrook, including the provision of reception roles and responsibilities, office and garden maintenance and support to onsite teams, interior and exterior décor – including noticeboards 
• This includes line management of your team and dotted line supervision for garden club volunteers for garden maintenance; this includes managing the relationship with the gardening contractor
• Overseeing annual compliance checks. e.g Pat Testing; Smoke alarms; air conditioning units
• Managing the relationship with the outsourced cleaning contractor (Minster Cleaning Services)
• Responsible for reception cover. From time to time it may be necessary for you to support in filling gaps in reception cover. i.e. sickness/holidays/absence
• In collaboration with colleagues continuously improve the facilities space, always focusing on the service users and underpinned by a strong ethos of equality diversity and inclusion, wellbeing and safeguarding
• Responsible for coordinating scheduled and unscheduled site maintenance

This is an exciting opportunity to shape a new senior role within our organisation. The Interim Head of Research and Campaigns will lead our Research function and advocacy efforts, ensuring that evidence-based insights drive our campaigns, policy work, and public engagement.

Recently kicking off our new ‘Creating Positive Change Together’ strategy, coproduced by over 130 staff, volunteers, clients and partners, Groundswell has ambitious plans around influencing more change and amplifying voices to promote healthier lives and a better future for anyone who has experienced homelessness. This role directly aligns with these strategic plans, to refine and use innovative participatory research centring lived experience, share and amplify insight from people with experience of homelessness, and increase our campaigning activities to change systems and break down the barriers that stand in people’s way to a healthier life and more hopeful future.

This role has been created on an interim basis to assess its impact and effectiveness, with a key focus on reviewing the priorities, progression and support of our Research Team and making recommendations for the future regarding this new role. The role will sit within the wider Participation, Progression and Creating Change team. 

We anticipate that some form of Head of Research & Campaigning role will continue beyond this 12-month period, and this interim position will very much shape and inform that longer term role.
