The role will add skill and expertise to AIUK's financial planning and analysis function. Reporting to the Financial Planning and Analysis Lead, and working alongside a second Finance Business Partner, the role will manage the delivery of complete, accurate, timely, and understandable financial information to both internal and external stakeholders. The Finance Business Partner will add value to the financial information provided to and by our budget holders through excellent communication skills, technical analysis, and data visualisation.

The role will involve developing professional working relationships with colleagues across the organisation, building capacity and financial literacy, supporting adherence to financial policies, and engagement with finance systems and processes. The business partnering approach will support informed and proactive decision-making across the organisation.

About Us

Safer Waves was set up in 2019 to provide support to merchant seafarers who have experienced sexual assault, sexual harassment or gender discrimination on board.

Safer Waves provides an anonymous email support service, run by volunteers who are trained in responding to disclosures of sexual violence, and who understand the specific challenges experienced when these events happen onboard a vessel.

We work with shipping companies, industry leaders, law enforcement and maritime training providers to raise awareness of sexual violence within the maritime industry, and to improve the support that is available to seafarers who experience it.

For the first 5 years, Safer Waves has been a volunteer-led organisation. We are now in the exciting position of being able to recruit a CEO, and we are looking for an individual who has the passion to see this new organisation thrive in the maritime welfare sector.

As the head of a small and rapidly developing organisation, the CEO role will be extremely varied, with the opportunity to shape the organisational structure as needed. The CEO will work closely with the trustee board and Operations Manager to deliver the strategy, improve sustainability and financial resilience, manage risk and deliver high-quality services to our beneficiaries.

We are a growing organisation, and this is a unique opportunity to grow and innovate with the organisation and to contribute to our future success. Applicants will need to be prepared to take on a wide range of tasks at the outset including compliance, accounting, training, public speaking, banking, leading volunteers, engaging with external partners and funders, overseeing the website and email service and many other tasks.
 

Responsibilities & Accountabilities 

The CEO reports directly to the Trustee Board and is responsible for the following:

• Strategy: Shape and deliver the charity's strategy over the next five years, whilst also ensuring the day-to-day running of the charity remains effective.

• Finance: Maintain and develop relationships with funders, and find new funding streams for the charity. Prepare budgets and control spending accordingly.

• Risk management and compliance: Work with the trustees to ensure strong governance, including effective management of risks and compliance with current legislation.

• Relationships: Build and maintain relationships with international organisations including charities, shipping companies, law enforcement and government agencies among others.

• Line management: Manage staff and volunteers

• Communications and Outreach: Work with the Operations Manager, Trustees and volunteers to raise the profile of the charity and increase the number of seafarers reached

Person Specification

Essential 

• Experience in being self-sufficient and driving progress, ideally in a business or charity setting.

• Senior Management Experience

• Able to demonstrate alignment with the core values of Safer Waves.

• Knowledge and understanding of supporting survivors of sexual violence

Desirable

• Experience working in the charity sector. 

• An understanding of the maritime sector

We’re a thriving advice organisation that is part of the national Citizens Advice network. Our services are delivered by a team of around 40 paid staff and 60 volunteers. We have a typical annual turnover of £2 million and in addition to our core advice service, funded by Wandsworth Council, we have a range of projects funded by trusts, foundations and our local Integrated Care System.

While we’re proud of the number of residents we support, we know that we can’t meet demand for advice and that marginalised communities don’t always come to established organisations for support. Why we need you

We’re recruiting a Service Manager for our Financial Resilience Navigators project and Home Visiting Team. This role will sit within our Management Team and we expect the successful candidate will divide their time roughly equally between the two projects.

As well as contributing to the leadership of the organisation, the key responsibilities of the role include:

• Leading and supporting teams of staff and volunteers, ensuring they are equipped, trained, and motivated to deliver effective, high-quality client-centred services.
• Managing and supervising support and advice projects across multiple channels (in-person, outreach, home visiting, online, telephone), ensuring services are accessible to vulnerable client groups.
• Managing relationships with commissioners and funders, ensuring we meet our contractual obligations and can demonstrate this to our funders.
• Leading in building and maintaining positive, collaborative partnerships with statutory, voluntary, and community sector agencies and teams.
• Providing direct advice and ongoing support to clients, maintaining a caseload where appropriate, particularly in complex or high-priority situations.

This role might suit applicants wwith experience of giving advice and supervising advice services, but it also offers opportunities to develop skills and knowledge around Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning, as the Financial Resilience Navigators project is a pilot that will be externally evaluated.

The Latin American Women’s Rights Service (LAWRS) is a human rights, feminist organisation led by and for Latin American migrant women in the UK. Our work is dedicated to supporting the immediate and long-term needs of Latin American migrant women exposed to violations of their fundamental human rights; facing violence against women and girls, exploitation or trafficking; enduring difficult living and working conditions in low paid jobs and facing barriers to social protection. We strive to provide essential tools for women to empower themselves in their pursuit of personal and social change.

The post holder will join our Counselling and Psychotherapy team, providing emotional support sessions, clinical assessments and one-to-one short term therapy to Latin American women; delivering group work activities and psychoeducational workshops; and dealing with internal and external referrals, working closely with other teams at LAWRS and external agencies.
