As Healthcare Professional Education & Engagement Lead at Crohn's & Colitis UK, you will be integral in the development of healthcare professional online education and engagement networks in both primary and secondary care. You will also work on a variety of other healthcare professional projects. This is a role that is both fulfilling and challenging and requires travel to healthcare professional conferences. You will be supporting the Health Services Manager and liaising with both internal and external stakeholders, all with a view to improving the quality and the standards of health services for all people affected by Crohn's and Colitis.

Our location

We are based in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, so we are easily accessible by road and rail. But one thing we have learned from the pandemic, is that we are able to work very effectively from home. In this role, there is plenty of scope for doing that, although there will be times when you will need to be at face-to-face meetings and the charity meets four times a year in the office at our mandatory 'All Staff Together' days. Role: Full-time* Trust & Foundations Manager

SOHK is at a new and exciting stage of development. Having delivered its programmes to thousands of adults and young people over the past 13 years, in 2024 we chose to focus solely on working in schools. This shift responds to a dramatic rise in need among young people in the UK, many of whom are struggling to navigate adolescence amid rising poverty, a mental health crisis, and increasing isolation.

We plan to double the number of young people engaging with our programmes over the next five years. We are also making significant investments in our impact function, to better understand how we can maximise the benefits for participants and attract more attention and investment to social and emotional learning (SEL) interventions.

OVERVIEW

The Trusts & Foundations Manager will play a central role in shaping SOHK’s future growth. They will lead on major grant applications, support targeted bids aligned with regional delivery, and manage relationships with existing charitable funders.

Around one-third of SOHK’s £1.5 million income currently comes from grants, with active partnerships including major funders such as the Garfield Weston Foundation and Impetus. Sustaining and growing this income will require proactive research, strategic outreach, and a highly organised, detail-focused approach to both applications and stewardship.

The role works closely with the CEO, who is committed to leveraging their time and networks to support fundraising success. The post-holder will also collaborate with Regional Directors and other fundraising colleagues, while enjoying a high level of autonomy and contributing to the long-term direction of SOHK’s Trusts & Foundations strategy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Develop and submit high-quality funding proposals, including applications for six-figure and multi-year grants, by meeting appropriate deadlines and tailoring applications so they appeal to different funder priorities
• Manage and develop a strong pipeline of Trust & Foundations funders for future years, including researching and prospecting new leads through active outreach
• Work with the CEO, Regional Directors and overall fundraising team to identify key funding priorities and strategically deploying the capacity available
• Develop and keep the fundraising CRM updated as a central source of trusts and foundations knowledge, clearly identifying funding gaps and adjusting targets
• Strengthen existing funding partnerships through warm stewardship and efficient grant reporting, maximising the charity’s chances of repeat funding
• Build upon the organisational strategy for scaling trusts & foundations income

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Essential

• Demonstrable track record in leading on successful medium and major grant applications, including six-figure and multi-year grants
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, able to present a compelling case for support to a variety of funders
• Comfortable in understanding and presenting financial information and in creating budgets for grant applications
• Experience with CRM/fundraising databases for tracking applications, deadlines, and relationship management
• Highly organised and proactive, used to taking the lead on managing a large volume of potential grants in line with the submission dates
• Confident in liaising and engaging with external organisations, including building new relationships with potential funders who are invite-only

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT

• Salary range: £37,000 - £40,000
• Full-time or 0.8 Full-time Equivalent - dependent on the skills and experience of the candidate, we would be open to discussing a 4-day week on full salary

The Purpose of the Role

The Officer, Private Fundraising Communications is responsible for developing content that inspires private sector funding towards the IRC’s innovative and impactful programs in 40+ countries. This person will collaborate extensively with program teams and External Relations to create communications that engage prospective donors, demonstrate their unique philanthropic impact, and inspire ongoing support through tailored content across Trust & Foundations, Global High Net Worth Individuals, Global New Business, and Corporations.

This person will be a strong grant writer, dynamic storyteller, communicating the story of IRC’s work on behalf of people impacted by crisis for over 90 years through concept notes, proposals, pitch decks, reports, and other fundraising content. The ideal candidate will be familiar with humanitarian program design concepts and complex proposal development processes.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Business Development Writing (40%):

● Responsible for producing persuasive and well-structured proposals for 6+ figure grants, positioning IRC as a best-in-class humanitarian and development organization. (They will support a portfolio with a special focus on Trust & Foundations, with projects for Corporate, HNWI, etc. as assigned.)

● Conduct programmatic research, collaborate with various teams (fundraising, program, etc.), and articulate the organization's goals, strategies, and impact to secure funding for humanitarian and development projects.

● Transform technical, programmatic content into sophisticated, compelling, donor-friendly materials. These materials will showcase the impact and sustainability of our programs while communicating our shared values with private sector partners.

Impact Reporting (40%):

● Create comprehensive and compelling reports and other written materials that highlight innovation, evidence, and outcomes the IRC delivers for our clients in some of the world’s toughest places, while building trust and transparency with private sector donors.

● Use data, human-interest stories, and other storytelling to create compelling, effective reports. These reports will fulfill donor-set requirements and communicate what sets our program approaches, evidence generation, advocacy, and expertise apart.

● Present program results clearly, workshopping reports with technical experts across the IRC.

Project Management (20%):

● Serve as a primary focal point for account managers to navigate communications resources and grant writing services.

● Lead the end-to-end process of proposal development across a diverse portfolio of grants - including curating content, workshopping information with program and communications colleagues, and building editorial timelines to finalize written assets across IRC teams.

● Document timelines and follow up with relevant responsible parties to help ensure core proposal/reporting milestones are met

● Coordinate with IRC teams (Program, Finance, Design and UX, Communications, etc.) to shape custom grant communications and set priorities.

Salary

Annual leave 

Full-time staff entitlement, pro-rated for part-time staff: 33 days (inc bank & public holidays) + 3 closure days (two in December and one in July) + additional length of service entitlement (one day per year of service, up to 5 days) 

In order to be eligible for the role, applicants must:

We are looking for a high-calibre candidate to take on the role of Regional Operations Manager for our centres in South London (Walworth, Kennington and Brixton) along with our centres in Southampton and Brighton.

As a Regional Operations Manager you will line manage the Centre Leaders in your region to ensure that centres are working effectively, that the high quality of programme delivery to young people is maintained across the cluster, and that targets are monitored and met. 

And of course, you will need to have a genuine passion and enthusiasm for working with young people and helping them achieve their ambitions.

Cancer Grand Challenges builds on the success of CRUK's Grand Challenge that launched in 2015 - to date we have committed in excess of c$400m to fund 16 interdisciplinary teams, and our portfolio now includes over 1200 researchers and collaborators across 16 countries. We recently launched our fifth call for applications to address seven new challenges, and we are thinking about what the next decade for the initiative will look like. When you work at Cancer Grand Challenges, you'll be employed by Cancer Research UK.

What will I be doing?

• Deliver to work plans and assist in the design, development and maintenance of process documents and reporting mechanisms for all research operations activity within Cancer Grand Challenges

• Support and coordinate the activities of the Cancer Grand Challenges Scientific Committee and associated meetings, working closely with scientific colleagues and with the committee chair and membership

• Deliver the application and review processes for Cancer Grand Challenges, working with colleagues to identify and implement improvements within and between funding calls

• Deliver excellent support to Cancer Grand Challenges applicants to required standards, governance, policies and timeframes by:

  • Responding to, resolving and redirecting (where necessary) queries from prospective applicants to colleagues in Cancer Grand Challenges, CRUK and NCI

  • Advising on eligibility and applicant processes

  • Preparing papers and reports for meetings of the Cancer Grand Challenges Scientific Committee

  • Working with the CRUK Research Funding Product team to deliver application and review processes via the grants management system

  • Retrieving and interpreting application data, metrics and reporting

  • Maintaining accurate files and records of Cancer Grand Challenges applications and awards, ensuring information may be easily retrieved and is compliant with data protection policies

• Interface with Cancer Grand Challenges reviewers, applicants and funded teams, providing excellent operational support as appropriate

• Plan and deliver annual reviews of funded Cancer Grand Challenges teams

• Liaise directly with relevant stakeholders at the NCI on ongoing delivery and priorities

• Assist in activities that will ensure Cancer Grand Challenges scientific activities and programmes are leveraged to advance fundraising by the Cancer Grand Challenges philanthropy team

• Develop briefing packs for senior staff

• Support the successful planning and delivery of Cancer Grand Challenges meetings and events across the full breadth of team activity

Working as part of a new in-house team, you will use a range of communications and marketing channels to spread key messages among communities and affect behaviours among target demographics. You will build relationships with local and national partners including the media, and manage campaign activities and events. You will also support activity across your team, including preparing copy for newsletters, websites and social media in support of campaign priorities.

Core responsibilities within your role will be to:

• Work with the Campaign Planning Manager to understand campaign goals and target audiences, and develop, tailor and disseminate campaign messaging
• Plan and deliver a regular content schedule for social media pages and other channels working alongside colleagues to decide priorities
• Support online and in-person campaign activation events
• Support management of campaign creative and media agencies
• Write press releases, articles and quotes, working closely with media partners to deliver coverage containing key campaign messaging
• Build relationships and work with local partners, including schools, libraries, early years settings, business, authors and illustrators, cultural partners and key local figures
• Work with the Campaign Manager to develop an evaluation framework for campaign activity and prepare updates for stakeholders and funders
• Monitor and moderate contributions to the campaign website using the content management system
• Proofread and edit content as required
