Finance Manager
Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse (AAFDA) was founded by Frank Mullane in memory of his sister Julia Pemberton and her son Will who were both killed by her ex-partner in 2003.
Each year, around 150 families lose a loved one to domestic homicide. The actual number of suicides as a result of domestic abuse remains unknown. AAFDA’s prime function is to provide families in England and Wales with specialist peer support and expert and specialist advocacy for the range of statutory reviews that will take place after domestic homicide.
As a growing charity, AAFDA is looking for an exceptional candidate to join our supportive team and lead our finance and resource management functions. The role will provide and manage the HR, administration and finance activities of the charity and sit within the Senior Leadership Team.

ROLE OVERVIEW
AAFDA (Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse) is a growing Charity and to meet the demands of this growth, we are looking for a full time Finance and Resources Manager to join our team.
MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE
To work with the Board, CEO and Deputy CEO to ensure efficient and effective financial management, including setting and monitoring budgets, producing financial reports, and overseeing day to day financial management, including payroll and bookkeeping via Quickbooks, and providing advice and guidance, to inform the development and delivery of AAFDA’s strategy and business plan.
To work with the CEO and Deputy CEO to ensure that AAFDA meets its funder obligations, including reporting on time, gathering data from across the team and compiling reports for CEO/Deputy CEO sign off.
To work with Trustees and staff to ensure AAFDA fulfils its legal and regulatory requirements, including; coordinating the implementation of health and safety, GDPR and other policies and procedures; leading on human resources support; and overseeing office management and IT. Note that specialist HR advice and support and IT are provided to AAFDA by external contractors.
The role provides and manages the HR, administration and finance activities of the Charity and sits within the Senior Leadership Team.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
· Ensuring the day-to-day financial and accounting operations (Quickbooks) are delivered and maintained.
· Administering and managing Payroll, expenses, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, managing the bank including reconciliations and other financial management.
· Managing AAFDA’s budget planning, monitoring and review and year-end accounts processes.
· Meeting AAFDA’s funder reporting deadlines, including oversight of the compilation of information for the funder and the provision of financial reports.
· Supporting the development of AAFDA’s strategy and business plan including providing financial projections and conducting risk analysis as and when required.
· Ensuring effective day-to-day management of book-keeping and financial administration.
· Ensuring financial, payroll and data protection policies and procedures comply with relevant legislation/regulations, reflect best practice and are applied throughout AAFDA, reporting non-compliance to the CEO and/or Deputy CEO.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Finance:
· In conjunction with the Leadership team, undertake regular finance operational duties including;
- Preparation and setting of a three-year outline budget to accompany AAFDA’s three-year strategy.
- Preparation and setting of the annual budget.
- quarterly reviews – including cashflow and operational re-forecasts.
- Monthly management accounts and variance analysis.
· Prepare quarterly finance reports for the Board, including variance analysis, re-forecasts and ad-hoc reports, as necessary.
· Assist the third-party accountant with the preparation of year-end accounts.
· Manage and operate the internal finance and accounting systems and databases.
· Oversee delivery of payroll, through the use of third-party providers software and using the staff time management recording system.
· Manage all staff expense systems and ensure compliance with relevant AAFDA policies.
· Manage and operate a purchasing system and ensure appropriate levels of pre-expenditure financial authorisation are in place and followed and that suppliers are paid on a timely basis.
· Ensure that all receivables are billed and collected on a timely basis.
· Be the main contact with and management of, the day-to-day operations of the Charity’s banking arrangements, seeking secondary authorisations where required.
· Ensure compliance with HMRC, including monitoring VAT threshold, tax and gift aid, and undertake necessary returns where necessary.
· Commission specialist VAT and other financial advice as required and in conjunction with the Board and CEO/DCEO.
· Support and advise the Trustees, CEO, Deputy CEO and other Leadership Team colleagues with financial forecasting/planning, and allocation and funding of staff and other resources.
· Support Fundraising staff with preparing and managing grant applications and project budgets with the aim of ensuring a minimum of full-cost recovery and provide financial implementation data to enable the Charity to comply with any grant reporting obligations, including by creating and maintaining records of costs by grant received.
Effective Organisational Administration
· Oversee policy and procedure development and implementation, including safeguarding, data protection, Health and Safety, complaints, etc, in conjunction with other Leadership Team members.
· Conduct horizon scanning and recommend opportunities to revise policies and procedures to ensure legal/regulatory compliance and/or in line with best practice.
· Review, improve and ensure implementation of project management processes.
· Ensure appropriate equipment and infrastructure resources are in place for staff, volunteers and Trustees.
· Ensure insurance is in place for all activity and potential organisational risks.
· Continually improve and manage operational costs and budget.
· Collaborate with colleagues to ensure optimal use of the AAFDA customer relationship, case management, time recording, expense management and other operational systems.
Other
· To work with the Trustees, CEO/DCEO and staff to develop and implement the strategy and business plan.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
ESSENTIAL
Experience
Experience of the range of financial management and management accounting, including analysis and commentary.
Experience of audits, invoices, bank reconciliations, accounts payable and accounts receivable and budget preparation.
Experience of working with and co-ordinating income and expenditure across multi-project budgets.

Role Purpose:
We are seeking an experienced, dynamic, fundraiser who is target driven, to apply for a new role, Philanthropy Development Manager, to lead a step-change in member giving. Job Summary
Taking a leading role as part of the Individual Giving management team, you play an important part in helping to achieve a step change in the growth of the net voluntary income of St John. The role will work closely across Individual Giving and the wider Fundraising Directorate to develop an evolving supporter acquisition strategy that will aim to recruit new supporters with a focus on digital. The role needs to focus on managing the implementation of the strategy including using insight and data to develop, implement, manage, monitor and evaluate campaigns across a range of channels, with a cutting edge and contemporary approach whilst staying current with the continuously changing legislation and support climate. Responsibilities include working with agencies and suppliers to project manage the full cycle of direct marketing campaigns.
About You
- Significant experience in a third sector direct marketing role
- Track record in managing effective digital campaigns on a national or regional basis
- Experience of using fundraising databases e.g. Raiser’s Edge, Microsoft Dynamics or similar
- Extensive experience of using a variety of fundraising channels including digital, email social media, direct mail, telemarketing and SMS
- Experience of leading a revenue generating team, including generation of six figure acquisition income
About the Role
- Oversee the supporter acquisition programme, taking responsibility for outstanding donor recruitment with the highest standard of quality and compliance and ensuring a diverse programme mix; ensuring they are in market on time, on budget and on brand.
- Develop an annual plan of acquisition activity; monitoring and analysing all campaign results, with ongoing test and learn mechanisms in place to drive continuous improvement and making recommendations for future activity to effectively maximise income and ROI
- Working collaboratively with key fundraising and data teams; lead the development and continuous improvement of new supporter product development
- Strong agency relationship management across a variety of partners and suppliers, from building relationships and negotiating to contract and routine performance reviews
- Lead on all KPI tracking, trend analysis and interrogation of results at all levels; including programme optimisation to ensure targets are met and contingency planning as required.
- Work closely with key colleagues across individual giving and in other directorates to ensure they are involved in relevant aspects of acquisition activity

Your new company My client is a top University that specialises in design and digital media in a buzzy area of London, and they are looking for an interim Library Manager to manage a team of 3 with direct reports for an initial 8-week period.
Your new role
- To manage the services, resources and operations of the Library, ensuring the efficient and professional delivery of innovative and customer-focused library and information services to staff and students.
- Provide day-to-day management and effective leadership of the Library team, undertaking the full range of management responsibilities, ensuring their effective working against institutional priorities. This includes managing performance, conducting annual performance and development reviews, identifying training and development needs, workforce and succession planning, staff recruitment and induction.
- Work with academic staff and students to develop a comprehensive understanding of resource demands and ensure that resources and collections meet the learning and research needs of the institution.
- To work with the Head of Academic Operations in the development of a strategy for the library reflecting the vision of the Institution.
- In collaboration with the Head of Academic Operations set and monitor service standards and foster a professional environment of continual improvement, customer service focus and inclusivity across the team, delivering and embedding change where required.
- Ensure services, resources, policies and procedures are effectively promoted to stakeholders across relevant communication channels. This includes staff and student inductions, workshops and managing the library intranet.
- Manage the physical and digital library spaces, ensuring they provide effective learning environments to support stakeholder needs and to work with the Head of Academic Operations, identifying priorities and costs for the ongoing innovative development of these spaces and resources.
- Manage specialist archives and collections.
- Ensure the library team maintains the spaces consistently to a safe and professional standard.
- Proactively work with key stakeholders internally and externally to ensure effective service delivery.
- Review, revise and implement relevant processes, procedures, policies and supporting documentation, ensuring that they reflect best practice and regulatory changes.
- Effectively manage delegated budgets and resources, including budget forecasting, and ensuring resources are cost-efficient and used effectively to deliver value for money.
Ensure that new and existing resources are fully utilised to deliver maximum benefits for students, staff and external stakeholders. - To monitor new and emerging library and information management developments and legislation, identifying their impact and making recommendations to take advantage of them or reduce their risk in the university's activities.
- Represent the institution within appropriate forums such as SCONUL and the M25 Consortium of Academic Libraries.
What you'll need to succeed
- Experience of managing library and information services and resources, including catalogues, collections and online resources
- Experience of working in a library setting in higher education
- Proven track record of managing budgets and financial administration
- Demonstrable experience of effectively managing staff and leading teams
- Experience using and/or developing digital resources
- Experience of building relationships with key stakeholders and collaborating on planning and service developments
- Experience of developing and implementing library policies, procedures and services
