The Royal Commonwealth Society is seeking a highly organised, proactive, and experienced events manager to lead the planning and execution of its diverse portfolio of high-profile and fundraising events. The postholder will manage the full lifecycle of events - from concept through delivery - ensuring every event reflects the Society’s values and enhances its reputation and reach.
Flagship events include the Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey, an Award Ceremony for The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition at Buckingham Palace, the High Commissioners’ Banquet at Mansion House, and other ceremonial, stakeholder, youth, and fundraising engagements.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead the end-to-end management of all RCS events, ensuring the successful delivery of high-profile, ceremonial, and fundraising events.
- Oversee event planning, including venue sourcing, contract negotiation, supplier coordination, protocol, security, AV, catering, and staffing.
- Manage the delivery of the Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey, ensuring coordination with the Royal Household, Westminster Abbey, the BBC, and government departments.
- Deliver a Commonwealth Concert as a key fundraising and engagement event, managing all artistic, production, and logistical elements.
- Organise the High Commissioners’ Banquet at Mansion House, coordinating with the City of London Corporation, the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council, diplomatic missions, and keynote speakers.
- Support other public-facing events, including those connected to The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition, and the Commonwealth Clean Oceans Plastics Campaign.
- Prepare and manage budgets, ensuring events are delivered on time and within financial parameters.
- Oversee guest and stakeholder management, including invitations, RSVP tracking, VIP handling, seating plans, and pre-event briefings.
- Prepare comprehensive briefing materials for events, including biographies, guest lists, and running orders, ensuring accuracy and alignment with protocol requirements.

Main Responsibilties

- Coordinate the rheumatology training webinar series, including topic development, speaker management and live delivery.
- Coordinate the education bursary programme, including promotion, application management and financial reconciliation.

- Support the delivery of digital sponsorship and educational partnership opportunities.
Marketing & Communications
- Work with the Marketing and Communications team to create digital content to engage target audiences.
General Duties
- Manage events inbox and education team enquiries, delivering excellent customer service.
- Input into education budgets by monitoring progress against income and expenditure for owned projects.
- Support with BSR Committee liaison and logistics.

The Role
In this role you will be providing essential information, advice and support to individuals from diverse backgrounds. You will work with Disabled clients to empower them to take control of the support they need by using Direct Payments, employing their own staff and accessing activities or services. You will ensure that individuals have the right information to make informed choices and will help them to set up and manage their chosen support.
You will have excellent communication, interpersonal and IT skills and the ability to work as part of a team. Experience of budgeting and recruitment are essential for this role.
Experience of working in social care is not essential as training will be provided, however a “can-do” attitude, a commitment to a person-centred approach and a willingness to learn is a must. Being part of a small team, there is a lot of opportunity for you to develop and learn new skills.

The Role
Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Finance Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Finance Department, ensuring strong financial controls, compliance, and accurate reporting. You’ll play a key role in supporting service delivery and organisational sustainability.
Key responsibilities include:
Managing financial operations, reconciliations, and statutory submissions
Supervising a Finance Administrator and overseeing payroll (via an outsourced provider)
Preparing quarterly management accounts and supporting budget monitoring
Managing restricted income allocations and compliance with funder agreements
Acting as a key contributor to financial systems development and statutory audit
About You
We’re looking for someone with:
A recognised accountancy qualification (full or part-qualified)
At least three years’ experience in financial management, ideally within a charity or not-for-profit setting
Strong technical skills, including Excel and statutory accounts preparation
Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving abilities
A proactive, detail-focused approach and the confidence to work independently
Experience of charity finance, systems change, or supporting organisations working with vulnerable communities would be an advantage.

What will I be doing?

In this vital role, you will lead the development and delivery of the charity's cash giving programme, including two key postal campaigns and segmented e-newsletters designed to enhance supporter engagement and retention. You will focus on building meaningful, long-term relationships with donors-boosting lifetime value through reactivation, cross-sell opportunities, and uplift strategies.
