• Having experience of successful 5 figure gifts is desirable, but candidates will be considered with 4 figures, looking for a bigger challenge
• Experience of working with giving circles is of interest but not essential

• A proactive and adaptable approach with ambition to grow income from major donors, able to see opportunities for growth.

We are looking for a Philanthropy Manager to join this small but ambitious, growing and successful team at Chester Zoo and help drive the Major Gifts income stream forwards. 

The Role

As Philanthropy Manager you will play a key role in generating funds and lead on the high value relationship strategy. Duties will include:

• Identifying and researching potential major donors and implementing plans to attract these high-value individual philanthropists
• Building and maintaining strong relationships with existing and prospective donors.
• Leading and curating exceptional engagement opportunities through events, experiences and donor visits.
• Keeping accurate records to include all communications, donor plans, pledges, proposals and gifts.
• Ensuring gift administration and recognition.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As the Project Officer for Dartmoor, you will deliver the Bike It Moor project, which forms part of the Dartmoor’s Dynamic Landscapes (DDL) programme. You will work in partnership and collaboration with other the DDL partners, who are also delivering projects as part of DDL, to accomplish shared objectives and targets. The DDL programme is led by Dartmoor National Park Authority (DNPA) and made possible by a grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.  Thanks to National Lottery players, we are able to offer this exciting new role.

You will engage and work with selected schools and their wider communities in the project areas, developing and delivering fun, engaging and innovative activities and events. These will be inclusive and promote and enable all forms of active travel (walking, cycling, scooting and wheeling) to school. 

You will plan and deliver practical skills (like cycle and scooter skills sessions, bike maintenance and led walks and rides), information events (such as assemblies, drop-in sessions, pop up stands), competitions, incentive programmes and classroom sessions. You will also plan and deliver day and overnight cycling and walking experiences, giving pupils the opportunity to explore and enjoy the local green landscape, immerse pupils in the natural heritage of the area.

You will report directly to the local Project Manager and will recruit, train and support local volunteers on the project, as well as engaging with project officers across the South region and the UK.

Due to the nature of the role, a full DBS is required to be completed by the successful person. Candidates should be based within the geographical area with regular travel expected.

ABOUT YOU

You should have experience of working with young people from a wide variety of backgrounds and be able to adapt your approach to meet varying needs. You must demonstrate evidence of planning and delivering engaging and interactive group workshops and activity sessions, as well as experience of events planning.

You will have experience of delivering successful behaviour change projects, ideally with a physical activity focus, and have an understanding of community based or environmental projects.

You will be a skilled communicator, with the ability to connect with different audiences ranging from children, parents, school staff and the wider community.

About you

The successful candidate should demonstrate:

• The ability to Tackle complex problems while delivering the best outcomes for the Museum and Members alike,
• Previous experience in a busy customer service role, ideally working in a senior role or managing a telephone contact centre/customer inbox.
• Strong expertise and experience with CRM databases (preferably with experience of Raiser's Edge) as well as experience with credit and debit card payment systems
• Experience with resolving complex problems and handling complaints
• Fantastic telephone manner and correspondence skills

About the Role

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the HR Manager will lead on recruitment for a large-scale project (10-15 hires initially), manage redundancy and restructure processes, and support line managers with people practices and development.

• Reporting to the Health Promotion Manager, this role will involve working closely with health care providers and community stakeholders to develop and design an evidence-based, behaviour change intervention, aimed at reducing smoking prevalence across targeted populations.
• This is an exciting opportunity for a specialist with expertise in tobacco dependence, behaviour change, and public health programme design to lead the development of a smoking cessation pilot. 

Main Duties/Responsibilities:  

• Develop a high-quality smoking cessation pilot programme
• Conduct needs assessments and analyse local smoking prevalence data to inform programme design. 
• Lead on the design, development, and delivery of a high-quality stop-smoking pilot programme, tailored to meet local population needs. 
• Develop training materials and resources for facilitators delivering the programme. 

Specialist Support and Advice 

• Provide guidance and advice on evidence-based smoking cessation strategies, including behaviour change support. 
• Provide high-quality smoking cessation behavioural support and pharmacological advice, in line with evidence-based practice, to individuals wishing to stop smoking or using tobacco products. 
• Advise on compliance with relevant NHS, NICE, and local authority guidelines. 

Stakeholder Engagement and Communications 

• Support stakeholder engagement, community outreach, and communications to promote the pilot and ensure effective collaboration. 

Evaluation and Continuous Improvement 

• Evaluate the effectiveness of the pilot programme through data collection methods such as questionnaires and focus groups with participants. 
• Identify and report areas of success and opportunities for improvement, providing recommendations for future programme development. 

Skills and Experience:  

• Educated to degree level in health, social care, public health, or significant professional experience in smoking cessation. 
• Proven experience working within local authorities, the NHS, or similar public health settings. 
• Completion of the National Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training (NCSCT) certification. 
• Strong knowledge and practical understanding of stop-smoking medications and their appropriate use. 
• In-depth understanding of behaviour change theories & techniques, along with their application in smoking cessation programmes. 
• Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing pilot programmes or other community-based health interventions.
