About the Youth Crisis Service

Our Young Person’s Crisis Service offers a safe, welcoming, and non-judgmental environment outside of normal school hours for those aged 14 – 17 who feel in mental distress or crisis.

About the Role

The Youth Mental Health Worker will support young people aged 14-18 to deescalate crisis and improve their mental health and wellbeing, through focussed 1:1s and structured crisis interventions. The role will involve assessing needs and offering one-to-one support to service users to enable them to begin the process of improving their mental health and well-being and to provide clarity on services and pathways available in the area. The role will be part of a larger Young Person's Crisis team made up of Youth Mental Health Workers, Managers and volunteers.

The successful candidate will have experience of working with young people (under 18) with mental health issues, experience of assessing level of need and experience working in a team or small service.

Service Delivery

• Deliver crisis focussed 1:1s and ensure outcomes which supports young people experiencing a mental health crisis in line with Mind BLMK’s agreed crisis service and requirements as well as contract requirements.
• Assessing need and suitability for the service in line with the access to services process, and undertaking 1:1s.
• Contribute to maintaining an effective volunteer workforce for the service in line with Mind BLMK’s HR policies, procedures and guidance (workload planning and support).
• Carry out health and safety and cash handling in line with Mind BLMK’s policies, procedures and guidance.
• Carry out health and safety responsibilities as directed by the Team Leader in line with Mind BLMK’s H&S policies, procedures and guidance (risk assessments, reviews, reporting, safeguarding, incidents/accidents, premises).
• Carry out responsibilities as directed by the Team Leader for the collection, updating, monitoring and reporting of service data in line with Mind BLMK’s contract and systems requirements and procedures.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

To work alongside the FASD Services Manager, FASD Lead Advisor and FASD Advisors in the delivery of the FASD Hub services including developing/delivering FASD training; providing direct support to families, providing line management supervision to volunteers and taking a lead role in facilitating community support services including peer support groups, Advice Line and the establishment of community support groups

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·The post holder will take a lead role and play an active part in the service’s peer support activities including online peer support groups/forums, virtual community groups and the establishment of a network of local community support groups.

·Lead delivery of FASD training workshops, seminars, webinars, events, commissioned training, and bespoke sessions for parents/carers, professionals, and stakeholders. The delivery of training may be online or in person and may require travel throughout Scotland.

·Responsible for supporting FASD Hub service users through direct one-to-one support to parents/carers.

·Provide support and supervision to FASD Hub volunteers.

·The post holder will take a significant role in the design and development of training materials and resources, including updating and refreshing in line with new FASD developments and research which impact upon the FASD community.

·Support the wider work of Adoption UK to deliver training on FASD to members, staff, and stakeholders, for example as part of Kinship Care Week, Adoption Week Scotland, The Promise etc.On occasions these maybe outside Scotland.

·Provide support and guidance to the FASD Helpline Advisor and follow up targeted enhanced advice in response to helpline enquires. 

·Provide cover and answer incoming enquiries to the FASD Hub Helpline, (telephone, email, and online platforms), along with occasionally providing cover to other Adoption UK Helpline services. 

·Working alongside other team members, the post holder will have input into the development, designing and planning of content for FASD Hub social media accounts, to ensure content is factually correct and the messaging reflects that of the FASD Hub service and FASD community. 

·Attend relevant national meetings, conferences, training events, networking, and development opportunities to promote the FASD Hub services and/or delivering FASD training.

·Support the FASD Services Manager and FASD Lead Advisor with delivery of the project and collaboratively work with all FASD Hub colleagues to ensure the success and growth of the project, and where required cover for other team member absence.

This is a 1-year fixed-term contract with a view to an extension in 2025.

Our youth mentor will work with young people in South Bristol and beyond. The role will see trusting relationships built between known young people in the community, support the young people and help guide them into positive provision or employment. The focus will be on the number of positive hours these young people can spend with their mentors and away from negative influences in their lives.

In October 2022 Salford City Council commissioned Salford CVS to undertake research into the strengths of the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector as part of their Joint Needs and Strengths Assessment.

Every three years since 2008, Salford CVS leads on State of the VCSE Sector research in Salford and also across Greater Manchester. Working with other local infrastructure organisations, we aim to provide a comprehensive overview of the VCSE sector. Our last research report was published in 2021 and we have started planning for the research to be conducted this year.

In August 2023 we further developed our VCSE sector research and insight work with the commencement of our Salford 99 longitudinal study. This research project is designed to understand the issues affecting the VCSE sector in Salford and aims to track 99 VCSE organisations every six months for a three-year period, so that we gain ‘live’ insight in between our three-yearly State of the VCSE sector large research project. Alongside this work we conduct a Pulse Check survey with a variety of VCSE organisations to get a snapshot of what is changing for them each quarter.

This exciting VCS Research and Insight role involves a combination of VCSE engagement and insight work across Salford.

The team works with unpaid Adult Carers, Young Adult Carers and Young Carers, completing statutory and holistic assessments to understand people’s individual circumstances and level of need. You will carry out home visits and community meetings, co-produce support plans, and develop effective relationships with Unpaid Carers, families, and professionals.  

You’ll build on your local knowledge to signpost and facilitate access for Unpaid Carers to support services, including financial and benefit advice, housing, health and safety home systems, and leisure and social activities. You will also support the development of escalation plans so that Unpaid Carers are prepared for unforeseen circumstances that would impact negatively on ability to care.

Applicants should have relevant personal or professional experience of working with Unpaid Carers and/or vulnerable adults or children in a social care, health, education or voluntary and community sector. You’ll need a practical understanding of barriers faced by Unpaid Carers, and an awareness of cultural differences and access to services. About the Service User Network (SUN)

The SUN is an open access model of community-based facilitated group peer support for people experiencing complex emotional needs associated with complex trauma and/or a diagnosis of ‘personality disorder’. The SUN aims to help people develop effective ways of coping, reduce emergencies and improve access to appropriate services.

Those accessing the SUN may or may not have a formal diagnosis of personality disorder. Group members will have experienced longstanding emotional difficulties, isolation and may demonstrate patterns of behaviour that may not be helpful in the longer term.

About the Role

Fundamental to creating empowerment and engagement in the SUN Project is the therapeutic community principle, that the effectiveness of the service depends upon engaging group members in the task of running, delivery, development and evaluation of the service. The utilisation of SUN members’ own resources and expertise is integral to the SUN model of peer support.

SUN Facilitators will have their own lived experience of complex emotional needs associated with a diagnosis of ‘personality disorder’ and will be able to demonstrate their recovery journey. They will work closely with mental health practitioners from ELFT to deliver regular Service User Network (SUN) groups in different community-based locations in Bedford, Central Bedfordshire or Luton. Full training in the SUN model, and weekly supervision by a Psychotherapist / Psychologist, will be provided for all team members.

Facilitators will work to develop and support the therapeutic community principle of the SUN model and the effectiveness of the service through engaging group members in the task of running, delivery, development, and evaluation of the service. The utilisation of SUN members’ own resources and expertise is integral to the model of peer support upon which the SUN groups are based.

SUN facilitators will have regular supervision and support in this role along with appropriate training.

We believe the 11-18’s are world changers, and our passion is to see them empowered, equipped and living to the fulness of who they are in Christ. God’s heart beats for this age group to be won for Christ and rooted and established in their faith. 

The youth lead role is not only about creating a programme; it is about establishing young people who are transformational and become an intervention in the world they move in. We want to see transformed youth who transform their world. 

The Youth Lead is responsible for developing, overseeing and running the whole of the youth ministry’s strategic vision and operational activities to see the vision outworked.

This role requires vision, strong leadership, passion, energy, capability to delegate, flexibility and commitment. You will have the opportunity to shape the ministry according to the whole church’s strategic vision and culture as well as prophetic direction relating to the youth ministry itself, and you will function on a staff team.
