Age International is recruiting for a Senior Policy Adviser with a proven background in achieving impact, for a 12-month maternity cover contract, working 28 hours per week. Salary advertised is FTE - 35 hours.

Our Side by Side service has developed through several years of outreach on Gillett Square in Dalston. The Role
As our Lead Community Advice Worker, you will provide holistic advice, advocacy, and practical support to people connected to the marginalised and excluded Gillett Square community in Dalston. You will help them access essential services, navigate welfare benefits and housing issues, and challenge decisions they believe are unjust. You will also provide guidance and supervision to one Community Advice Worker. This role involves occasional outreach in Gillett Square and through home visits.
The role is offered on a part-time, 4 day week basis (0.8 FTE) with a salary of £36,050 pro rata per annum.

The Role

Job Title: Recovery Worker (Night Shifts)

About the role
We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Recovery Worker to join our team which aims to deliver support to male residents aged between 18 and 65. You will be at the heart of providing person centred support in a residential setting to our residents who have mental health issues, often alongside drug and alcohol dependencies. You will provide tailored support to help our residents to improve their quality of life, and achieve their personal goals through providing flexible support. The service offers our residents two years supported living with 24 hour medium to high levels of support to help residents maintain stability in the community and reduce hospital admissions.
You will work directly with our residents to support them to overcome their personal barriers and challenges to achieve positive outcomes. You will do this through one to one support sessions, group sessions and activities, and general support with their daily living.
The role further includes:
- Supporting residents with taking their correct medication
- Carrying out various welfare checks on residents during the night
- Health and safety tasks, including reporting repairs and maintenance
- Keeping support plans up to date using our online portal

You will deliver a range of activities e.g. cooking, arts & crafts, sports, trips, music, events etc. You will also offer support and guidance for local young people and enable them to develop life long skills while designing and running their own projects, forums etc. In school holidays you will be required to work an expected 28 hrs a week as we offer a full program of activities and free meals for young people

Duties Include:
Promoting and delivering activities for young people aged 9-19 yrs (up to 25yrs for young people with SEND)
Engaging with a range of young people from diverse backgrounds and with multiple needs
Ensuring safeguarding standards are maintained and other policies and procedures are upheld
Facilitate and support intergenerational projects
Working in partnership with other organisations to meet local needs
Acting as an effective part of youth team and wider SHAK team supporting community activities as needed
Admin and reporting duties as required
Skills & Experience
- Minimum Level 3 youth work qualification or equivalent and significant, relevant experience of youth service delivery.
- Experience of engaging girls in youth programmes successfully
- Knowledge of youth policies, safeguarding procedures and legislation
- Good communication, people skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to relate, support and engage with wide range of young people
- Proficient with computers, social media and other modern technologies
