The Foundation for International Law for the Environment (FILE) is a not-for-profit philanthropic organisation working to accelerate legal action on climate change.

Role overview

The Head of Financial Planning and Analysis is a key leadership role within the Finance Team at FILE, responsible for the financial planning cycle and management information, business partnering support across the organisation, and financial reporting to donors.

Key Responsibilities will include:

• Lead the FP&A team at FILE, including setting team vision, annual team planning and objectives
• Lead annual planning process across income, granting plans and operational expenditure, developing innovative approaches
• Ensure robust quarterly forecasting process supports resource planning, strategic operational expenditure investment decisions and guides the allocation of unrestricted and flexible funding to highest impact
• Ensure prompt monthly Management Information, implementing reporting tools, dashboards and  automation where possible
• Ensure key stakeholders across the Grants Team, Donor Relations Team and across FILE receive high value business partner support to enable strategic decision-making, in addition to support on individual donor proposals, grants and operational expenditure decisions
• Develop and implement a new donor proposal budgeting process
• Ensure financial reporting to donors is on time, accurate and high quality
• Oversee Grant Assurance, support finance colleagues with statutory and donor audits as required, and collaborate with the Legal Counsel and Head of Grants on grant risk reporting
• Ensure Grant Management System has strong controls and user administration and collaborate with Finance Team colleagues on data reconciliations
• Drive process improvement, and develop best practice guidance, training and induction materials for budget holders, tools and templates for grantmaking and donor management.

Your Role as a Fundraiser for Hope for Southall Street Homeless

You will secure £210,000 p.a. to cover the running costs of HSSH.  This will include the salaries of five staff, grant-funding for emergency/ temporary accommodation for guests who wish to return to their home country (currently covered by a Government grant at 100%) and other running costs (eg insurance) and overheads (eg Third Sector body fees). 

Your responsibilities will include : 

Trusts

• To conduct an initial audit of existing Trust and Foundation donors to maintain and maximise potential income from these donors.
• To carry out prospect research using Fundsonline and other established Trust directories to identify new prospective donors.
• To establish a calendar-based pipeline showing submitted and planned applications, with required updates (including scheduled date, name, projected amount, and next action), to ensure timely and targeted applications and follow-up communications with donors (both existing and prospective).
• To monitor and respond to local and wider appropriate grant opportunities.

Corporates

• To scope local and wider district and borough opportunities for corporate partnerships, starting with warm contacts and existing donor networks.
• To build natural, face-to-face, contact and foster deep relationships with new corporate partners.
• To maintain a pipeline (as above) of corporate donors, prospects, communications, and planned approaches.

Community / Individuals

• To work with local community organisations and individuals, including those already engaged with/interested in HSSH and others, to raise awareness of the service, increase existing support, and generate new forms of support.
• To represent/showcase the work of HSSH through local events and forums, emphasising the need for, and the impact of, the service.
• In cooperation with the Social Media Management Group, to produce/ contribute to shared material/social posts profiling HSSH’s work and value, to the community, borough and wider bodies relative to our work.
• To prepare bespoke, scheduled, direct mail requests to individual donors, in the form of letters and e-mails.
• To maintain an up-to date information resource covering the issues relevant to local rough sleepers and migrants, to inform and evidence HSSH services.

Who We Are Hope for Southall Street Homeless (HSSH) is a charity founded in 2015 to provide a permanent night shelter in Southall.  The need for this was identified by the Churches in Southall Leadership Team – at the time part of the wider Ealing Churches Winter Night Shelter initiative – due to the high number of rough sleepers in Southall, at the time, over 31% of all Ealing’s rough sleepers.

Over the past 75 years we have supported over one million children by funding almost 6,000 Sunshine Coaches, almost the same number of wheelchairs, and giving thousands of grants to individual children, schools, youth clubs and other organisations for specialist equipment. Variety is also involved with a number of capital projects which transform the facilities of hospitals and SEN schools. In addition, each year tens of thousands of children take part in day trips, special events and educational activities as part of our Variety Great Days Out programme and every single day we are improving more young lives. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
● Support the account management of corporate partnerships, delivering first class stewardship, increasing engagement and supporting delivery for maximum potential for Variety
● Research business leads to feed the corporate pipeline and new business approaches, identifying prospects
● Keep partnership account plans up to date including fundraising, communications, finance and impact reporting, ensuring we meet key deadlines
● Send fundraising materials to supporters and corporate partners to enhance staff fundraising and engagement
● Attend Varity fundraising and awareness events, maximizing engagement opportunities for corporate partners and building relationships with supporters, while working closely with the services and communications team
● Managing a portfolio of smaller partnerships, giving great stewardship and ensuring donations and fundraising come in as planned
● Support budgeting of income from partners and reforecasting income
● Support administration in fundraising including sending out materials, replying to general enquiries, creating proposals and invoicing partners
● Participate in staff meetings, fundraising team meetings and contribute to the success of Variety’s fundraising strategy
● Represent Variety externally at events and cheque presentations

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
Essential
• Experience of two years working on a fundraising team
• Experience of attending events and representing a charity
• Experience of donor stewardship and excellent customer service
• Good writing and communication skills
• Good organisational skills and multi-tasking during busy periods
• Enthusiastic, energetic, self-motivated
• An understanding of corporate fundraising

MAIN BENEFITS, TERMS AND CONDITIONS

This role will be responsible for ensuring an effective online presence and supporting wider organisation goals.

The Digital Marketing and Communications Officer reports to and supports the Head of Communications and Marketing in managing the organisation's digital presence, including the website and email marketing. They will also assist in creating targeted communications and collateral to support the fundraising team's efforts and manage essential, basic in-house design needs.

We are looking for people to join our pool of freelancers, delivering our Transforming Spaces programme and helping us to deliver our ambitious project targets to ensure many more children and young people can have safe spaces to sleep, learn and play. We redecorate children's bedrooms, as well as local youth clubs and community centres which children rely on for support. The purpose of the programme is to provide children living in unsuitable accommodation with safe environments where they can sleep, learn, play, and grow.

Renovation projects are designed with support from The Childhood Trust’s pro bono interior design team at Katharine Pooley and completed in one day by a group of volunteers. There is growing demand from both communities who need our support and from volunteers who want to give their time to make a difference. 

Project days can be long - sites are based across London so can mean 8am starts and finishes after 6pm.
