ABOUT THE ROLE
We are hiring an Area Manager to provide management and oversight for services which span across the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC). Our services provide 154 units of accommodation to people experiencing homelessness and have complex needs. The services are 24 hour supported accommodation sites. You will have the overall responsibility to deliver the highest standards of service quality, performance and improvements across your services through excellent leadership and embodiment of our SIG values.
As the Area Manager, you will lead the team to deliver exemplar Trauma Informed support to our residents and participants. The current team you will directly manage:
- Deputy Manager x 3
- Activities Coordinator x 1
- Resettlement Manager x 1
Rota: Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, flexibility required to meet service needs, based across all RBKC services under your area
The in-service leadership team support a team of frontline Support Mentors and Peer Support mentors to deliver dynamic and flexible person centred support aimed at empowering our residents to make and sustain positive change.

OVERVIEW OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Line Management and Leadership
- Provide high quality support, leadership and line management to staff, offer guidance, support, and advice to the team and support them to perform to the best of their abilities.
- Provide leadership and management throughout the full employee lifecycle.
- Hold regular one to ones and team meetings to support effective teamwork and communication. Facilitate a culture where constructive challenge is welcomed.

Service Delivery
- Manage the overall day-to-day operational delivery of your service, working directly with your team, colleagues, residents and participants, as well as other stakeholders to provide a high-quality, holistic service which meets the needs of our residents.
- Ensure service responsibilities and requirements are carried out effectively. This includes but is not limited to; welfare checks, risk assessments, support sessions, safeguarding checks, training and development, and other responsibilities required for effective service delivery.
- Support the team to carry out their day to day duties and responsibilities, offer guidance and support as necessary.
- Work proactively to ensure the service and team meet and exceed Key Performance Indicators, and work in line with professional codes of conduct.
- Empower residents and participants to make decisions to take control over their lives, by creating an enabling environment.
- Be part of the operational on-call Rota for providing out-of-hours support across the operations directorate.
Risk Management
- Follow relevant risk assessment and management procedures, share relevant information with others as necessary.
- Ensure all case recording and information is accurately recorded in a timely manner, ensuring confidentiality and GDPR.
- Champion, and act as a point of reference for safeguarding concerns within the service(s). Ensure all staff attend relevant safeguarding and training and use knowledge to coach and advise the team.
Property and Housing Management
- Ensure the accommodation in which residents live is clean and maintained to a high standard
- Ensure all repairs and maintenance issues are correctly reported and managed through to completion.
- Ensure a provision of high quality housing management service is provided to residents.
Financial Management
- Manage the service budget and review monthly management accounts: Set budgets and ensure resources are maximised.
- Promote effective cost control mechanisms and other financial activities.
- Maintain financial management within the service.
Other
- Some of what else is included: Contract management and Internal auditing, admin, and general other duties as required.
Other responsibilities than those described above may be required to be undertaken from time to time and will be expected to be performed to as long as it is within the capability and level of the position. Please refer to the JDPS attached for more information.
KEY CRITERIA
What we are looking for:
- Understanding and/or experience of working with people of complex backgrounds, ex-offenders, mental health, substance misuse, challenging behaviours
- Experience of working with and engaging with diverse groups of people from varying backgrounds
- Previous experience in people management and development
- IT Proficiency, including Microsoft Office, and the ability to navigate and learn new case management systems and other types of organisational software.
- Ability to promote the service and provide outreach-based provision, with an ability to liaise and work effectively in partnership with stakeholders
- Understanding of Housing Management, including voids and evictions

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Volunteer Manager to join the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (Kew). Volunteers contribute significantly to the delivery of Kew’s mission, supporting all aspects of Kew’s work notably in Horticulture, Science, visitor engagement, schools, community and access programmes and Galleries. We currently count on over 800 volunteers across our two sites - Kew Gardens in west London and Wakehurst, our wild botanic garden in Sussex.
The volunteering function sits within the Gardens directorate in the Learning and Participation department but has an organisational-wide remit, working closely with business areas such as Horticulture, Science, HR and H&S. There is a devolved structure for the management of volunteers with a full time Volunteer Manager and Volunteer Coordinator at the centre with responsibility for delivering the Volunteer Strategy and associated KPIs, policy and procedures. This central resource support is vital for the continued expansion and development of the volunteering programmes in a coherent and equitable way and to a uniformly high level.
The Volunteer Manager will engage with all volunteers, including those under 18 years of age and vulnerable adults. An Enhanced DBS check is required.
About You
We are seeking an experienced volunteer manager who will ensure our volunteers, and staff who coordinate them, have the skills and support they need to confidently and consistently perform their roles to support the implementation of Kew’s Manifesto for Change.
You will manage the central function for volunteers across Kew Gardens and Wakehurst, supporting processes linked to recruitment, selection, induction, training, pastoral care and leavers. You will have excellent knowledge of the UK volunteer sector and understand the legal context of engaging volunteering and how it differs from employment. With excellent IT and administrative skills, you will be experienced in collecting, maintaining, analysing and reporting on volunteer data.
You will be an ambassador for Kew’s volunteers and a visible presence for all volunteers, advocating for them internally and externally. Your strong interpersonal skills will ensure excellent levels of communication with volunteers and staff, and this will include representing volunteers on Kew’s Leadership Forum and chairing the Volunteer Steering Group.
This role is based at Kew Gardens with occasional regular travel to Wakehurst and occasional travel within the UK. There will also be the option of regular home working, subject to operational requirements.

The Volunteer Manager (VM) is responsible for overseeing high-quality sourcing of volunteers to join as 1MM Mentors across the regions, which includes partnership development, online site listing, and matching mentors/mentees, general oversight of mentoring relationships in different programmes, implementation of safeguarding measures, fundraising, meeting growth targets and leading all aspects of mentor management. The role will help to establish a pipeline across the regions, with 5000 new mentors for 2024. This role reports to the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO).
1MM VM’s main tasks include:

Helping 1MM to scale by sourcing sufficient volunteer mentors who go on to become confirmed matches for high quality mentoring relationships.

Ensuring mentors coming online have completed the platform mentor training within 1 month, and that this conversion results in sufficient and timely readiness of mentors to meet the needs of programmes with one month’s lead time.

Providing ongoing support to 1MM’’s Volunteer Providers (eg employer partners), maintaining strong relationships.

Securing one corporate sponsor per quarter.

Becoming familiar with the 1MM Platform, using it comfortably for ongoing administration and providing support to mentors.

Providing a weekly update on various aspects of mentor recruitment, including expected supply, actual registration, and confirmed matching. Share lessons learned on volunteer conversion and matching with the wider team.

Terms and Conditions:
This is a full time role offered in London, for 6 months (continuing subject to funding). This is a hybrid role with two days working at home, two days in the London office, and one day where it is up to you.
Remuneration and benefits: Salary bracket of £29,000 per annum plus London Weighting (pro rata), up to 6.5% employer pension contribution and 25 days holiday per year (pro rata).. We also offer monthly team Learning and Development training sessions, and 15 hours volunteering allowance per year.

Based within the Development Team you will look to identify funding opportunities to secure funds to ensure the Hospice successfully achieves its objectives and development plan. You’ll spend your time:
- Supporting the team (including Directors and Deputy Directors) with diary management, travel arrangements, accommodation, conference registrations, and expense claims.
- Organising and supporting relevant internal and external meetings, including a regular programme of lunch time learning sessions.
- Providing administrative support for research and policy project work, including proofreading, collating, data entry and maintaining electronic files as required.
- Working with other operational team members to provide general support across the Nuffield Trust.

- Have strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office.
