Patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) is a fundamental approach in our work at UCLPartners. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with some experience in patient involvement or community engagement to coordinate and support activities to ensure patients, carers and communities are at the forefront of UCLPartners’ work.

Reporting to the Head of Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement and closely working with our Patient, Carer and Public Advisory Panel, you will use your excellent communication and interpersonal skills to support development and delivery of projects that support inclusive and meaningful PPIE.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

PPIE Planning and Coordination:

• Support the delivery and evaluation of the UCLPartners Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) strategy.
• Support the development of new ways of equitably involving patients, carers and the public from across our region in what we do, ensuring we work with communities facing the biggest health challenges.
• Support the delivery of the UCLPartners Patient, Carer and Public Advisory Panel, including organising panel meetings, co-facilitating sessions, and providing guidance and training to current members
• Support the continued development of the Lived Experience Network including recruitment and demographic monitoring.

PPIE Support and Development:

• Support the provision of PPIE advice to staff and innovators, including providing additional facilitation and hands-on activity support (when required).
• Support patient, carer and community contributors with induction, ongoing training and feedback processes.

Operational duties:

• Act as a point of contact for patient, carer and public contributors to ensure clear, two-way communication.
• Support patients, carers and communities through the ‘Contributor Payment Process’ to ensure timely reimbursement
• Lead the safe and secure data management and up-to-date record keeping within PPIE activities
• Develop content to share and promote our PPIE work including patient-facing newsletters
• Carry out any other duties as requested by the line manager

You

• Experience of designing or delivering patient/public involvement or community engagement activities
• Ability to involve and work with diverse groups of patients, carers and community groups in a way that builds trust and transparency
• Experience of delivering involvement and engagement activities such as workshops, focus groups, and coproduction sessions
• Familiarity with online tools to support engagement (i.e. Zoom, Padlet, Miro, Slido)
• Experience of developing content for external communications such as newsletters 
• A strong understanding and commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in healthcare 
• Ability to work flexibly in the planning and organisation of multiple strands of work
• Ability to work as both as part of a team and independently according to project needs
• Experience of advising and supporting the development of involvement activities and projects is desirable
• Experience of working with researchers, professionals, and innovators in the health and care sector is desirable

Terms and Conditions

The PPIE Officer will report into the Head of Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement and work closely with all our teams and functions. The remuneration for this post is competitive depending on skills and experience with a salary range of £36,010 to £51,500 per annum.

This is a full-time, permanent position although 4 days a week will also be considered. Some evening and weekend working will be required to support involvement activities.

We offer flexible working arrangements and support hybrid working at UCLPartners. All staff will typically spend a minimum of 40% of their working time at the UCLPartners office i.e. for a minimum of 2 days/week if full-time or 40% of your working time for part-time staff. This can be averaged over a 3-month period.

The National House Project (NHP) supports Local Authorities to work with young people to give them the knowledge, skills and confidence to live connected and fulfilling lives. By developing a community of support, completing the House Project Programme and being able to make their house a home young people can look forward to a positive future.

About the role

Whilst the House Project approach sets out a clear pathway for young people to move into a house that becomes their home, being in the House Project is so much more than an offer of accommodation.

Staff working in the projects are trained in relational and trauma informed approaches. They use a psychologically informed practice framework to work with young people in both groupwork and individual settings and this work is supported by social pedagogical approaches. Working with young people in a groupwork setting and offering individual direct support enables the development of relationships and shared experiences which allows young people to be involved in the running of their LHP and central to the decisions that are made about them.

NHP provides a framework and not a model and whilst LHPs must keep to the fidelity of the approach, local environments and the young people themselves will determine how projects proceed.  This is where you will come in as a practice lead. With knowledge of child development, attachment styles, trauma informed care, the care system and the House Project approach you will support staff in LHPs to work in ways to develop practice that puts young people at the heart of the decision-making process and supports the local ‘system’ to improve how young people leave care.

As a Practice Lead you will have responsibility for a number of LHPs and will:

• Ensure that LHPs have young people at the heart of the decision-making process and that practice is evidence based and trauma informed
• Ensure that LHPs adhere to the fidelity of the approach whilst flexing to accommodate local arrangements
• Manage risk and deal with trauma at an individual, organisational and systemic level, turning these challenges into opportunities for change with improved outcomes for the young people.
• Work with the Care Leavers National Movement as well as the core team to ensure that young people continue to drive their own LHP and develop practice at both a local and national level

The Role

You will drive the continuous improvement and impact of the UK-wide Stroke Group Network and community-based offers by cultivating strong relationships with volunteers and groups, working alongside groups and communities, and translating insights into targeted improvements that strengthen support for stroke survivors nationwide.

Group Network & Communities team lead the approach to supporting people affected by stroke to engage with a range of support within communities they identify with and support and empower a vast network of volunteers, a dynamic and inclusive community of over 400 stroke support groups nationwide.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Ensure community-based offers provide the best possible customer experience with a strong focus on accessibility and inclusion, aligned to Solving Inequity in Stroke approach.
• Drive forward a culture of coaching, shared learning, peer support and collaboration as a way of working.
• Work across teams and Directorates to ensure a joined-up approach to community engagement and development, including the delivery of cross-directorate spaces that facilitate shared learning, leading relationships with key internal and external partners and stakeholders.

About You

You will have a proven record of:

• Experience of working with volunteers, including the ability to coordinate, organise and deliver volunteer engagement events at scale or digitally
• Ability to take time to understand the context of our communities and groups, being approachable, and supporting thinking - always having people affected by stroke at the centre.
• Strong administration skills, with ability to develop and deliver effective processes.
• Ability to identify problems or opportunities where we can have more impact or add value for people affected by stroke, working with others to experiment and learn.

Ebony Horse Club is a Brixton-based charity that works with young people from low-income backgrounds, using horses as a powerful catalyst to build confidence, aspirations, and life skills.

At the heart of our mission is a commitment to breaking down barriers to access, particularly for those young people and families who are often excluded from mainstream services and opportunities. We know that isolation, socio-economic disadvantage, and lack of access to safe, welcoming community spaces are some of the most persistent challenges facing families in our area. Our work directly addresses these challenges by creating inclusive, supportive environments that over the last 30 years, has developed into a much-needed community hub.

Our stables in the heart of Lambeth is not just a place to ride horses; we are a safe space where almost 200 young people every week can build trusted relationships with adults, develop a sense of purpose, and gain vital skills through mentoring, youth work, and enrichment activities. We facilitate transformative experiences that build confidence, resilience, and life skills through riding and horse care and many of our members go on to find work in the equine or related fields through our assistance, funding and contacts in tertiary education and beyond.

We are looking for a Senior Youth Worker to join our team to help shape and deliver our services here in Brixton as we enter our 30th year. Join a fun, enthusiatic team of staff and volunteers - as well as 9 horses (and a couple of dogs). We're looking for a flexible, creative and positive person to take the lead on organising trips, creating opportunities and working directly with young people on site here in Brixton. 

The role requires evening and weekend work, however we know life happens so try to offer as much flexibility as possible. However, as this is a frontline role, this is not suitable for candidates who may want to work remotely.
