Action for Refugees in Lewisham (AFRIL) is seeking our next Executive Director to lead our small, dynamic charity. You will be joining an impactful local organisation at a crucial time in our development. Since 2021 we have grown significantly and sustainably, developing new services based on client needs. You will be leading a highly competent and passionate team who are community minded and experts in their fields. 

The Executive Director has overall responsibility for the day-to-day management of the charity, including finance and fundraising, as well as supporting the development and delivery of services. We are seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate who can balance the demands of strategic leadership with the operational execution and development of our services and policy work. We are seeking someone with a high level of operational skill and accountability in operational management and governance. You will be responsible for the central services of the charity including finance, fundraising, legal, HR and communications. You should have experience and understanding of small charities and the external context within which we operate.

• Rainbow Club Saturday School - improving educational attainment, wellbeing, confidence and self-esteem, and raising the aspirations of disadvantaged primary age children. 

• Allotment of Refuge - a welcoming and integrated community of food growers improving the health, wellbeing and healthy food access of children and adults seeking sanctuary in Lewisham.

• Immigration Project in partnership with Southwark Law Centre - free legal advice and representation to support families to regularise their UK immigration status in the UK.

In addition, we hold a monthly Members Forum, and use the evidence from our frontline work together with the testimony of our members to influence improved policy and practice.

AFRIL is currently in a good position, with the several long-term grants and statutory funding secured, and good relationships with community and individual donors. Job Purpose

To provide confidential, accessible, and high-quality counselling support to students aged 16–18 and apprentices at Ada, the National College for Digital Skills. The counsellor will play a key role in promoting emotional wellbeing, resilience, and positive mental health to enable students to thrive academically, socially, and personally. The role supports the college’s mission to empower a diverse generation of digital pioneers by removing emotional barriers to learning and contributing to a safe and inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Direct Student Support

• Provide one-to-one counselling sessions to students and apprentices, including those experiencing mental health challenges, emotional distress, trauma, and/or personal issues.
• Deliver short-term, goal-focused therapeutic interventions based on students’ needs and referral pathways.
• Maintain appropriate and confidential records in line with safeguarding and data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR). Using the College’s CPOMS systems to record sessions.

2. Collaboration and Safeguarding

• Work closely with the Safeguarding and Wellbeing team, including the Designated Safeguarding Lead, to assess risk and provide timely interventions.
• Attend and contribute to safeguarding meetings, case conferences, and strategy discussions where appropriate.
• Make referrals to external mental health and support services when specialist or long-term intervention is required.
• Be a visible and approachable member of the learner services team, building trusted relationships with staff and students.

3. Promotion of Wellbeing

• Support the delivery of a proactive mental health strategy that reduces stigma and encourages help-seeking behaviours. 
• Facilitate a weekly well – being sessions with the safeguarding team.
• Contribute to college-wide initiatives, workshops, and campaigns that promote positive mental health, resilience, and emotional intelligence.
• Help create a psychologically safe, inclusive space for under-represented and neurodiverse learners.

4. Professional Practice

• Adhere to ethical guidelines set by a recognised professional body (e.g., BACP, UKCP) and uphold standards of best practice.
• Participate in regular clinical supervision and CPD to maintain and develop professional skills and knowledge.
• Evaluate the impact and outcomes of counselling provision using appropriate tools and data.
• Provide monthly intervention and support reports to the Assistant Principal Learner Services and College DSL.
• Work closely with the College Safeguarding and Apprenticeship team.

Person Specification

Essential:

• Qualified counsellor or psychotherapist (minimum Level 4 diploma or equivalent).
• Registered member of a professional body (e.g., BACP, UKCP, NCS).
• Experience of working with young people (16–18) and/or apprentices in an education or youth setting.
• Understanding of safeguarding principles and a commitment to student welfare.
• Ability to manage sensitive issues with professionalism, discretion, and cultural awareness.

Desirable:

• Experience of working in a further education or sixth-form environment.
• Familiarity with digital safeguarding risks and challenges faced by digitally engaged young people.
• Understanding of intersectional mental health needs (e.g., LGBTQ+, neurodiverse, BAME students).

This is a key role to work with an exciting community taking lead responsibility for the looking after key aspects of existing and new membership. You will be working alongside an experienced team supporting the Liberal Jewish Synagogue, the largest Liberal Synagogue in the UK, to be the best it can be. 

Your role will touch all aspects of the synagogue with a particular focus on looking after new members, the membership process and members in general, acting as a key conduit to ensure that our members receive the best service we can provide. You will also ensure that ourCRM system is up to date and important data and information can be pulled form it. 

You will support bereaved families in the immediate aftermath of a death by organising funerals, shivas and stone-settings.

Additionally you will support our Senior Rabbi in her work including diary management and ensuring, working alongside others, that life cycle and important religious festivals are being managed and delivered to the highest standards. 

Senior Rabbi PA

Support the Senior Rabbi in all aspect of their work to include:-

o Administrative and secretarial support for the Senior Rabbi including correspondence, diary management and to act as their first point of contact for enquiries by phone, email and in person

o Liaise and work alongside the member of staff (Office Administrator) who is PA for the other Rabbis and supporting when necessary

o Meet with Senior Rabbi regularly to review weekly diary, plan for the future and complete event forms

o Work closely with the Office Administrator (who organises all internal and life cycle events) to develop efficient procedures, printing and systems to ensure organisation of all life cycle events (including baby blessings, Bar-Bat Mitzvahs, Kabbalat Torah, weddings and mixed faith blessings, conversion, admission ceremonies).

o Assist with planning and coordination of events generated by the Senior Rabbi

o Keep timetables of all life cycle events coordinating with office staff to ensure these events and linked celebrations are delivered effectively

o Keep a tracking system that logs where proselytes are on their conversion journey.

The climate crisis is a water crisis. Around the world, people are feeling the effects of climate change through water, including flooding, droughts, sea level rise, and irregular rainfall. Climate change is affecting seasonal and long-term water availability, meaning we can no longer rely on rain, river flows and aquifers. The Global Commission on the Economics of Water has said that the world is facing the prospect of a 40% shortfall in freshwater by 2030; and water and wastewater contribute 10% of global emissions. To adapt to this new reality and build resilience to the impacts of climate change, we need to re-think how water resources are managed and delivered for different users over time. This provides an exciting opportunity to rethink how we create investment opportunities that promote resilient water management for people and the planet.

The Resilient Water Accelerator is designed to increase the flow of private and public finance into water projects that help the most climate-vulnerable communities build resilience to climate change. Despite the high need, only 3% of total climate finance flows go towards water. Our mission is to demonstrate the business case for increased and enhanced public and private investment in water-related deals in emerging economies that strengthen resilience for climate-vulnerable communities and are replicable so that millions more can benefit. About the role

As our Admin Officer, you will play a critical role in our Global Platform team — helping to link the different parts of the Resilient Water Accelerator (RWA) together and co-ordinate with our partners around the world to drive sustainable change.

The Resilient Water Accelerator is a newly formed not-for-profit organisation, which, as a wholly owned subsidiary of WaterAid, means both organisations retain a close and collaborative relationship. In this role, you will:

Provide support and solutions as the RWA puts in place new structures and systems

Our trained assessors carry out a comprehensive risk assessment to identify potential causes of falls and hazards in the home and can arrange for stair rails, grab handles and other necessary aids to be supplied and/or fitted, free of charge. The project can provide ongoing telephone support for up to six weeks to monitor the risk of further falls post engagement.
