An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Communications and Engagement Team as our Head of Communications and Engagement.
The post will involve supporting the Union to deliver its communications strategy, as well as our democratic functions such as campaigning and leadership elections. You'll lead the Communications and Engagement Team, and work closely with the Union team and University colleagues to ensure that we communicate effectively with our stakeholders.
Main responsibilities:
Communications:
- Develop and deliver the Union’s overall Communications Strategy Develop and deliver effective communication plans for the Union’s projects and priorities
- Ensure that all communications channels are properly evaluated, and provide advice and guidance on which resources or strategies to deploy
- Manage the Union’s marketing and communications channels Oversee the Union’s data protection policies, ensuring that staff are aware of their responsibilities
- Responsible for managing the Union’s CRM/CMS, including owning the relationship with our supplier.
- Manage the correct application of the Union’s tone of voice across our communications channels, providing guidance, training and support where needed to teams and departments.

Democratic functions:
- Ensuring that the Union is considered to be legitimately representative of its members by increasing engagement in and the quality of democratic activity. In doing so, ensure that the Union is truly democratic, and that all members and Officers adhere to the Union's constitution and bye-laws.

Job Purpose:
To provide operational management of the Substance Misuse Through-the-Gate (SMTTG) programme, which supports Lambeth and Southwark women in custody and their transition back into the community. The Coordinator will play a key role in ensuring the service is delivered to a high standard by line managing staff, developing strong partnerships with prisons and recovery services, and fostering a culture of quality, learning, and accountability.
The post holder will also hold a caseload, working directly with women in custody to support them into community services. They will provide robust Through-the-Gate (TTG) support on release and continue to work with women in the community for up to six months to ensure a smooth transition and sustainable recovery.

The Research Officer role enjoys a varied workload and brings the opportunity to work with autonomy and develop new skills within a friendly and dynamic team. Duties and Key Responsibilites
Sarcoma UK’s research programme
- To support Sarcoma UK’s grant application processes under guidance from the Acting Head of Research. This will include calls for proposals, identifying expert peer reviewers, administering a high-quality peer and lay review process, communication with applicants and potential applicants, administration of grant awards and supporting patient involvement.
- To provide support to the Grant Review Panel and Research Strategy Committee, including organising meetings and preparing minutes.
- To manage Sarcoma UK’s portfolio of active research grants, under guidance from the Acting Head of Research. This will include administration of newly awarded grants, monitoring progress of current grants, oversight of grant finances and reporting on final outputs.
- To support opportunities for patient involvement within the research programme, including managing a network of lay reviewers and facilitating new opportunities, with support from the Patient Involvement Coordinator.
- To support new developments in Sarcoma UK’s research programme, including organising and attending events, collaborative funding calls and initiatives to support early career researchers.
Research Impact and Communications
- To monitor and gather outputs and long-term impact of research grants funded by Sarcoma UK and support in ensuring these are shared with internal and external audiences.
- To plan and produce engaging and reactive and proactive communications about sarcoma research, including website, social media, written and video content, working with the Acting Head of Research and Communications Team to ensure our research activities and outcomes are shared with the sarcoma community and wider public.
- To proactively engage with grant holders to gather impactful insights and to support engaging communication about sarcoma research.
- To regularly review and update Sarcoma UK’s website with progress updates on research grants and promote funding opportunities.
- To support work undertaken by the Fundraising Team where required, such as lab tours and supplying information about funded grants for donor reports.
External relationships
- To be a point of contact for Sarcoma UK grant holders and their host institutions.
- To maintain positive relationships with Sarcoma UK’s research panels, potential grant applications, researchers and clinicians, and the wider sarcoma research community.

Barnardo's is seeking an empathetic and child led individual who can work within a dynamic and fast-paced environment using their strong organisational, communication and time management skills, to support children in the secure estate.
This part-time position (Children's Rights and Advocacy Worker – Project Worker 2) is based within HMP Parc Young Person's Unit, which accommodates children aged between 15-18 years, who are in custody, either sentenced or on remand. Barnardo's refers to Young Offender Institutions (YOI's) and Secure Training Centres (STC's) as the Secure Estate (please note, the location of some secure establishments may mean they are not easily accessed by public transport).
Barnardo's is commissioned by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) to provide an Independent Children's Rights and Advocacy (ICRAS) Service to children accommodated in a secure setting. The service is known to children as Barnardo's: Your Rights, Your Voice, and currently works within four Young Offender Institutes, one Secure Training Centre and one Secure Children's home. The ICRAS service is child led and independent of the secure estate; our service is delivered within Parc YOI to ensure children can freely access support for a range of issues linked to their needs, rights & experiences of custody, resettlement, and safeguarding. As such this is a child-facing service, and at times involves lone working in the establishments, so we are seeking someone who can see the child, not the offence.
We hold ‘voice' at the heart of all we do, therefore we feel the role is best described by someone who is currently working in this sector: “The role is a Children's Rights and Advocacy role, which means it is our job to empower the children we work with and help them to understand that what they think, what they feel and what they want, really matters. We can speak on behalf of children to ensure their voice is heard and we also have the opportunity to help them to find the tools and confidence to raise their voices for themselves. Advocacy and Children's Rights support is particularly crucial in the secure estate because children are away from home, family and champions, and also because children in secure estate are some of the most vulnerable children in society; they have often faced considerable adversity, disadvantage and discrimination prior to arriving into custody and they might not, therefore, be equipped with the skills needed to articulate their concerns. Through the work you do with a child such as simply helping them make contact with friends or family on the outside, to helping them with concerns they may have in relation todiscrimination, resettlement or safeguarding issues, you may be the one person telling them that they matter for the very first time.”
The position (Children's Rights and Advocacy Worker – Project Worker 2) is line managed by a Team Manager, reporting to an off-site manager. The post holder will need to be able to work autonomously, working to the requirements of the contract and the regime of the YOI. The secure estate is a highly structured environment; as a Barnardo's service we deliver independent advocacy and support for a range of issues, whilst still having to follow and adhere to this structure.
This role includes lone working in this challenging prison environment. It is, therefore, critical that the successful candidate can follow guidance and policy and is able to take proactive and individual responsibility to understand and access the service support mechanisms. This role requires the worker to be onsite for their contracted hours, working remotely only for occasional training or meetings. The advocacy team work on a rota system with set hours each week, which includes weekends and bank holidays. Applicants should also be aware, that due to the nature of working within secure estate, the vetting and induction process can take several months to complete.

The Role
Reporting to the Director of Finance and Corporate Services, this role will play a pivotal role in ensuring that the Charity complies with relevant legislation and regulations. The Head of Governance, Compliance & Risk will help maintain the ‘conscience of the charity’ to ensure that the Charity maintains public trust and executes its business in line with best practice. The role will be responsible for monitoring the compliance of legislative and regulatory requirements affecting the Charity and its activities.
The person will:
· Facilitate the smooth operation of the Charity’s formal decision-making governance structures (including Committees reporting to the Board), ensuring that all Board meetings and all Board Committees are properly constituted and provided with clear terms of reference.
· Ensure the Charity complies with its Articles of Association and where appropriate drafting and incorporating amendments in accordance with correct procedures, including management of any governance issues for the Charity Commission.
· Review and monitor procedures to ensure that the Charity complies with the requirements of the Charity Commission and charity legislation alongside other company law and Company House requirements.
· Maintain the following registers and respond to appropriate requests concerning information they contain: Members of the Board of Trustees, Trustees’ interests, Gifts and hospitality accepted and refused, Persons with significant control register and Governance of the Donors register (adherence to GDPR).
· Be responsible for facilitating the proper induction of Trustees into their role, advising and assisting them in their duties and responsibilities.
· Update and review governance policies and procedures and ensure their effective implementation.

The Events and Communications Officer will work across the team to plan, produce and deliver a calendar of in-person and on-line events. The post holder will work with the programme team to manage a calendar of online and in-person events and oversee the event process from beginning to end. This will include overseeing the set-up of IT and technology to ensure smooth event delivery and acting as a main contact point for external event partners. Through the appointment of a Strategic Programme Director (SPD), we have been given an opportunity to bring a step change in our mission and ministry across the Diocese of Coventry. The SPD will join us at an exciting time in the strategic development of the Diocese of Coventry as our new diocesan bishop takes up her responsibilities with a vision to see all churches flourish. A highly consultative approach will be needed as we look ahead to the beginning of this new season.
The Strategic Programme Director will be responsible for contributing to and supporting the Bishop’s Senior Staff Team and key lay and ordained leaders in the delivery of the diocesan strategy. The role will ensure that the programmes, projects and workstreams within the plan are delivered on time, within scope and budget. The Programme Director will provide oversight of the strategic plan from inception of ideas through implementation to delivery of projects. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Fund as we expand the UK Portfolio to meet our ambitions in delivering the strategy. We're looking for two people to join the UK Portfolio Team as Heads of Funding, leading a team of just under 40.
The UK Portfolio supports the ambitions and potential of communities across the UK.We focus on scaling projects with a UK-wide benefit, through significant investments, which enable systems-level change for communities. Our funding is intended to complement the work of other country portfolios: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
As one of four Heads of Funding in UK Portfolio you will oversee all aspects of our work and ensure the team is resourced and able to deliver operationally. Heads of Funding are responsible for ensuring our programmes are designed and delivered to the scope, standard and deadlines required and will lead on specific strategic areas and relationships inside and outside the Fund. Heads of Funding are responsible for ensuring an understanding of the external policy, practice and funding context from across the UK is reflected in our delivery. You will provide leadership for the team, supporting the work of the Portfolio Managers.
We are currently evolving our UK Portfolio funding offers and programmes in response to the strategy, developing a partnerships offer, and how we are more than a funder through our support to communities across the UK.
All Heads of will lead on a combination of strategic and operational priorities and the roles will involve a variety of responsibilities including:
- Overseeing up to £50m of grant commitments each year ensuring compliance with our operational and governance policies and requirements
- Lead one of the community-led missions in relation to the UK Portfolio’s funding offer
- Lead the strategic development and direction of a combination of our funding programmes and partnership approach
- Responsible for stakeholder management, both internally and externally
- Ensure learning and impact of our work is shared appropriately and informs our practice
- Lead engagement with our decision making Panels, Committees and Board
