Your Role in Our Vision

Join our Legacy Administration Team and manage a varied and active caseload of specific, residuary, and reversionary bequests. This is a pivotal role, helping to ensure that every gift left to Marie Curie is handled with care, accuracy, and respect — enabling us to continue delivering our essential services.

Legacy income is one of the most significant sources of funding for our charity. In this role, you will be responsible for safeguarding and maximising that income through diligent case management, effective communication with solicitors and executors, and a firm understanding of probate law and best practice. Your work directly contributes to our ability to care for people affected by terminal illness.

Experience across all UK jurisdictions is not essential, as full training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of specific, residuary, and reversionary legacies across the UK.
• Ensure Marie Curie receives its full legal entitlement, in line with Wills and settlements.
• Handle correspondence efficiently, updating records on our FirstClass 4 database and meeting internal service standards.
• Act as the lead charity where appropriate and liaise with co-beneficiaries.
• Monitor and progress open cases to ensure timely completion.
• Review estate accounts carefully, ensuring accuracy and appropriate application of tax exemptions.
• Obtain tax deduction certificates where cost-effective to do so.
• Ensure funds are allocated correctly to restricted or unrestricted purposes as specified in Wills.
• Comply with Law Society guidelines regarding Non-Contentious Costs.
• Represent Marie Curie’s interests in shared estates and collaborate with legal professionals and the public.
• Identify and escalate potential risks or disputes that may affect our entitlement.
• Seek opportunities to maximise the value of legacies and proactively manage estate assets.
• Support stewardship activity by working closely with the Legacy Marketing and Local Legacy teams.

What You’ll Need

• Proven experience in legacy administration.
• Experience working in or with the charity sector.
• ILM Certificate in Charity Legacy Administration, Law Degree, or relevant professional qualification.
• Strong understanding of probate law and estate management.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

About the role  

As Income Generation Coordinator, you’ll play a central role in supporting and strengthening our fundraising activity. Reporting to the Head of Fundraising, you’ll help deliver and track income across our individual giving, legacy, and payroll giving programmes. From donor stewardship and financial reporting to managing inboxes, calendars, and team resources, you’ll keep things running smoothly and accurately. You’ll also support client servicing for our Employers for Carers programme and help ensure strong financial and administrative processes across the wider Income Generation and Communications team.

Confident working with data and financial reports, you’ll be comfortable using databases and Microsoft Office tools to manage multiple priorities with accuracy. You will work as a member of Corporate Partnerships team which sits within Philanthropy and Partnerships. You will work closely with the Corporate Partnership Manager (Account management).

You will manage a portfolio of corporate supporters, building excellent relationships with key contacts and cultivating them for additional support, providing first-class stewardship and maximising income-generating opportunities.

Principal accountabilities

• Manage a portfolio of low-level (£0k - £50k) corporate partners, including but not limited to fundraising, cause-related marketing, and sponsorship relationships.
• Proactively support the recruitment of new partners and the cultivation of new business opportunities. Conducting prospect research and developing impactful relationships.
• Deliver and support the team in providing first-class stewardship for corporate accounts.
• Support the creation of corporate fundraising materials e.g. posters and fundraising guides.
• Ensure contracts and legal responsibilities are drafted and in place for all partnerships and relevant activities, and conduct necessary due diligence.
• Process all thanking, banking and administration for corporate gifts received.
• Maintain and update the Raiser’s Edge NXT database in relation to your portfolio of supporters, including prospect and proposal tracking, ensuring that all data kept is in accordance with the Data Protection Act.
• Support with delivering High-Value Special Events, such as the coordination of guests, as required.
• Administration support, such as managing supporter mailings, managing the partnerships inbox and corporate web form enquiries.

• Develop a strong understanding of autism and the National Autistic Society’s services to demonstrate the impact donors can make to our work and the lives of autistic people.

The Role 

Fundraising and Impact Coordinator

o Assist in the planning and execution of a diverse range of fundraising applications, events and community initiatives

o Support the management of event logistics, including participant communication, volunteer coordination, and on-the-day activities

o Collaborate with external partners and suppliers to ensure smooth event operations and build strong relationships for future collaboration

o Lead outreach efforts to engage new community partners, such as businesses, promoting fundraising opportunities and supporting their initiatives.

o Manage the distribution of supporter resources, conduct stock checks for fundraising materials and ensure an organised work environment for all fundraising assets

o Create engaging materials (posters, leaflets, stories etc), working closely with our social media lead on content

o Produce impact reports and collate information for reporting to funders and to support fundraising initiatives and grant applications

o Work collaboratively with the wider team, to support their work whilst deepening an understanding of our services

o Support the CEO and Operations Manager with ad hoc projects, activities, and any high-priority tasks to contribute to overall team objectives

Overall purpose

The Philanthropy Manager will manage and steward a portfolio of funders and donors – across trusts and foundations, statutory sources and major donors – to secure annual and multi-year gifts in support of Breaking Barriers’ vision. As well as managing relationships with our existing donors there will be a focus on creating new relationships through proactive prospecting and developing a long-term strategic approach to stewardship and relationship development.

You will be an ambitious, enthusiastic, energetic, and autonomous fundraiser with a demonstrable passion for supporting people from a refugee background. You will have a strong track record of high-value relationship management and fundraising, ideally specialising in Trusts, Statutory, Major Donor fundraising or a related area. We are looking for someone who can successfully secure and steward gifts of 5 figures and above – so evidence of stewarding high-value relationships and high-quality written skills are key.  You will collaborate with additional fundraisers across Trusts, Statutory, Corporate and Major Gifts to coordinate approaches and maximise opportunities across all functions.

We welcome applicants with relevant transferable skills from other sectors and other areas of fundraising but a strong knowledge of the fundamentals of grant fundraising is essential. We are looking for a passionate individual who can get people excited about the work we do and who wants to make a difference in the lives of individuals from a refugee background.
