Background

Refugee Action Kingston (RAK) is a well-established charity dedicated to supporting refugees and asylum seekers from anywhere in the world who find themselves in the Royal Borough of Kingston and neighbouring boroughs. Since its foundation in 1991, RAK has been the main provider of direct services to refugees and asylum seekers as well as promoting refugee rights.

RAK aims to support refugees through the process from their initial reception in the borough through to final integration into the local community in order to enable them to live a fulfilling life and become accepted and active participants in our local communities.  We achieve this by accomplishing a variety of outcomes for refugee and asylum-seeking families through delivering a holistic service including advice, information, counselling, education, training, and assistance in access mainstream services and employment opportunities to help them rebuild their lives.

We are looking for a registered solicitor or someone qualified up to level 3, although we will also be happy to hear from people who are qualified up to IAA Level 2 Asylum. We are currently not in a position to support people to qualify for IAA Level 2, so please do not apply if you do not already have it. 

Purpose of the Post

Refugee Action Kingston provides free and independent information and advice on a one-to-one basis to refugees and asylum seekers on immigration (Level 3), welfare benefits, education, training, employment, housing, access to health and social care. Where we cannot help we refer clients to solicitors and other specialist help.

The purpose of this job is to provide an effective and efficient face-to-face Immigration Advice to IAA leve l2 or 3, within the aims, policies and principles of Refugee Action Kingston.  And to provide consultancy and advice to colleagues on Immigration and Asylum issues.

Duties and responsibilities:

Casework

• Provide face to face Immigration and Asylum advice and casework to IAA Level 2 or 3
• Act for the client where necessary by liaising with the Home Office, external agencies and other Immigration Advice providers in progression of a case.
• Negotiate and advocate on behalf of clients with third parties as appropriate, both verbally and in writing.
• Assist clients with other related problems where they are an integral part of their case and refer to other advisers or specialist agencies as appropriate
• Know and understand the limits of Level 3 IAA Advice and be prepared to refer or signpost onwards when work reaches these boundaries.
• Ensure that all casework conforms to RAK Advice Service office standards and policies.
• Maintain case records for the purpose of continuity of casework, information retrieval, statistical monitoring, and report preparation
• Write and maintain notes on individual client cases, manually and electronically. To ensure files and appropriate records are kept in accordance with good practice and standards.
• Follow all policies and procedures relating to the advice service and work within the limitations expected of the service

Professional Development

• Attend internal and external training courses as appropriate. Staff are expected to keep themselves informed on current issues relating to their work.
• Keep up to date with legislation, case law, policies and procedures and attend appropriate training as agreed with the manager.

• Represent Refugee Action Kingston at external meetings as agreed with the CEO.

• Carry out any other tasks that may be within the scope of the post to ensure the effective delivery and development of the service

About the role

As a GROW Trainee, you will play an essential role in delivering Shelter’s purpose to defend the right to a safe home in East London. Our GROW Trainee will learn how to provide advice and advocacy to people experiencing the housing emergency and work alongside a team of advisors, solicitors, support workers and managers who work together to give communities easier access to support and advice. The successful candidate will be given extensive training, support, and supervision to support them to achieve this. They will also have access to a flexible personal budget to help in your own personal and professional development.

The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to community hub priorities and be involved in systems change work in the area.

Our location

We are based in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, so we are easily accessible by road and rail. We're looking for a Head of Governance and Compliance to work closely with our CEO, Executive Leadership Team and Board of Trustees. This is a vital role at the centre of the organisation, supporting a wide range of influential individuals. The Head of Governance and Compliance will need to adapt to varied working styles and expectations, with the ability to approach all relationships with professionalism, clarity and care.

As Head of Governance and Compliance, you will lead our governance function, ensuring legal and regulatory compliance while enabling effective decision-making. With strong governance experience, sound judgement and the ability to build trust at all levels, you will support effective leadership and accountability across the MND Association.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and continuously develop the governance function, embedding best practices aligned with our strategy and values.
• Act as the primary trusted advisor on governance, risk and regulatory matters to the Chair, Board, CEO and Executive Leadership Team.
• Lead and develop governance frameworks, policies and structures that reflect best practice.
• Oversee planning and delivery of all governance activities, including Board meetings, Committee meetings, and the AGM.
• Provide clear structured agendas, timely papers and accurate minutes to support effective governance meetings.
• Maintain governance records and ensure regulatory compliance with Companies House and the Charity Commission.
• Monitor and report on governance performance, risks and improvement areas.
• Take a leading role in managing and enabling constructive and challenging relationships between the Board, Chair, and ELT.
• Manage trustee recruitment, induction, training and succession planning.
• Oversee the organisation's policy framework and serious complaints process, ensuring appropriate enquiry and learning.
• Lead the development and implementation of the risk management framework in line with Board expectations.
• Stay informed on legal, regulatory and sector developments and advise the organisation on implications.

About You:

• Strong knowledge of UK charity and company law.
• Proven experience working with Boards and senior leaders in a governance role.
• Skilled in developing governance policies, frameworks and risk management processes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
• Good level of financial acumen within a governance role.
• High levels of discretion, judgement and political awareness.
• Able to work independently, make sound decisions and prioritise effectively.

The purpose of this role is to provide leadership, oversight and curation to the FYT Leadership Team, and to lead the smooth running of the FYT Organisation which supports the wider FYT Movement. This will include coordinating the delivery of the strategic plan, leading fundraising, and working closely with the FYT Board to oversee the smooth running of the organisation.

Hours: 22.5 hrs per week
Salary: £24,116 per annum (£40,194 pro rata) + 9% pension
Holidays: 5 weeks plus bank holidays and 3 additional days at Christmas
Location: Working from home, with nationwide travel expected

Key Responsibilities:

2. Lead the FYT staff team – supporting, supervising, enabling and encouraging and ensuring appropriate HR functions are carried out. 
3. Lead the fundraising strategy for the organisation, giving attention to securing grants, as well as donor fundraising . Report as necessary to funders.
4. Work with the Finance Officer to manage the budget and finances within the parameters agreed by the Board.
5. Facilitate the effective function of the Leadership Team, enabling the smooth and efficient carrying out of the strategic priorities.
6. Provide Line Management support and supervision to the other members of the Leadership Team.
7. Develop, implement and monitor FYT’s strategic plan in partnership with the FYT team and board
8. Engage in practical theological reflection on FYT’s mission and how it is expressed.
9. Attend and contribute as required to Board meetings, working closely with the Chair and Board to ensure that appropriate issues are raised, and that any agreed action is put into effect.
10. Be an advocate for marginalised young people, the issues they face, and youth workers and projects working with them (pursuing prophetic mischief, provocation, and taking up our unique space in the youth ministry community).
11. Make links with appropriate Christian, voluntary and statutory bodies and to represent FYT in appropriate forums and pursue opportunities for collaborative working.
12. Support the active promotion of the FYT training and resource offer.
13. Lead the monitoring and evaluation (impact assessment) of FYT’s work

Other functions:

1. Meet regularly with Line Manager for supervision.
2. Undertake administration and keep necessary work records.
3. Comply with all FYT policies and procedures.
4. Work collaboratively with the FYT leadership team and Board to ensure that organisational policies are regularly reviewed.
5. Engage in CPD/lifelong learning.
6. Undertake any other tasks that may be requested, commensurate with the nature and level of the post and as may be required by the Board of Trustees.

Additional Information

• The Leadership Team is supported by a contract with Giraffe HR that assists in the day to day running of the organisation, primarily managing the finances of the organisation.
• Engagement in ongoing, regular youth work with marginalised young people is not a requirement of this post, but encouraged. FYT will be flexible where possible in order to facilitate this.

Communications Officer

We have an exciting opportunity for a Communications Officer to help raise the charity’s profile across multiple communications channels and build supporter engagement with corporate and individual supporters, and with charity partners.

This is a remote working role.

Position: Communications Officer

Location: Remote/London

Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week

About the Role

This role is focused on delivering established communications strategies and plans over a 12-month fixed-term period. There is scope for the Communications Officer to work autonomously and creatively across teams, helping deliver engaging content and campaigns. You will also play an exciting role in rolling out the organisations refreshed brand.

Key responsibilities include:

• Develop and deliver content and copy for digital channels, including social media, email communications and the website.
• Deliver against existing, and develop own, content plans to enhance these channels, expanding reach, and strengthening brand awareness and recognition.
• Create bespoke materials to engage  key corporate partners and engagement communities as part of a wider supporter journey, including bespoke projects.
• Produce and deliver content for events marketing plans across paid, earned, shared, and owned channels in collaboration with internal teams.
• Oversee the community management social channels.
• Work with the Programmes and Impact team to manage the case story gathering process across charity partners, creating resources like blogs, video content and creative assets to educate and inspire.
• Support and coach the wider team to adopt digital solutions across internal and external channels, using data and analytics to make recommendations for improvements, including support for the Leadership Team’s personal communications, providing guidance for the most effective use.
• Support with monitoring, and evaluating communications outputs, using data, analytics and learnings to grow digital channels and supporting audiences.
• Ensure brand guidelines adhered to in all external communications produced by third parties.

About You

With experience working in a similar role, preferably within the charity or property sector, you will also have experience of devising and developing audience focused content ideas across multiple communications channels

We are looking for someone with:

• Experience of producing content - including photography and video led creative - with copy for digital platforms including web, content management systems, social and email communications
• Experience of managing and producing story-led content.
• Experience of social media and community management
• Experience of paid social media and using Google Analytics
• Experience of managing and delivering projects on time with multiple stakeholder involvement
• Experience of managing a diverse workload and of supporting colleagues
