About this role

SPANA’s Global Resources team supports SPANA’s mission to transform the welfare of working animals, including providing efficient and effective HR delivery across the organisation. This role will report to SPANA’s Global People & EDI Manager.

We are seeking a People Officer to support processes and systems across the employee lifecycle, with a particular focus on ensuring high quality and efficient recruitment. The People Officer will also play a key role in continuing the roll out of SPANA’s HR platform, Moorepay, which was introduced earlier this year.

Contract, location and salary

This is a full-time (34.5 hours per week), fixed-term, six-month contract role with the possibility of extension. This role is UK based, hybrid working with regular attendance (approximately 1-2 days per month, or more if preferred) in our London office. Candidates must have the right to work in the UK currently and for the duration of the contract. 

The salary for this position is c.£34,000 per annum, subject to skills and experience. SPANA is pleased to offer a range of benefits including a generous company pension scheme with 10% employer contribution if the employee contributes a minimum 5%, and health care cash plan.

St. John’s Mansions will offer 19 beautifully finished self-contained studio flats, designed to support residents in their journey from rough sleeping and emergency accommodation to independent living. The service will operate 24/7, with a welcoming reception and dedicated staff & clients spaces to enable both structured interventions and spontaneous, meaningful engagement. About The Role

As a Grants and Learning Officer, you’ll be helping us to deliver our ambitious, nationwide grants programme. We currently support over 500 grassroots organisations and 18-30 year old creatives, and have a busy grants cycle to manage, alongside ever-increasing numbers of applications. 

This year, we’re building and migrating to a new grants database and you’ll play an integral role on the project team. Based at: Remote, with travel to schools in Birmingham

Working Hours: 5 days a week, 9am-5pm (flexible)

Pension: School Food Matters pays pension contributions at 7% of pensionable earnings

Holiday: 31 days including bank holidays that fall on working days. Holidays must be taken during the school holidays

This role requires occasional work outside of core hours (for example, if visiting a school breakfast club). It also requires travel to schools across Birmingham, so access to a car would be desirable. Training for delivery of the programme will be provided online and in person, and you will be expected to travel outside of Birmingham for some of these training sessions.

Background to School Food Matters

At School Food Matters we believe that school food can unlock a happier, healthier, more sustainable future for every child. We want a school food system that delivers for all children, so they can enjoy nutritious, delicious and sustainable school food and leave school with an informed and positive relationship with food. To achieve this, we campaign for a better school food system, bringing the voices of children, parents, and teachers to government policy, and deliver fully funded food education programmes in schools across the country.

Background to Nourish

Our Nourish programme supports schools to create a food environment that puts children and young people's nutrition first. The evidence-based, multi-component programme helps schools to develop action plans and policies to cover the food served across the whole school day. Nourish uses a collaborative whole school approach to food involving everyone across the school community to create lasting positive change.

Job purpose

· To deliver Nourish in 6-8 schools in Birmingham (primary, secondary and SEND settings)

Key tasks include

· Support with recruitment of schools to take part in Nourish

· Complete in person food audits in schools looking across the whole school day

· Support schools to create and deliver a food improvement plan (action plan)

· Develop and deliver workshops in schools to staff, parents and students based on their action plan (e.g. assemblies, cooking sessions, school food standards training, packed lunch advice, food ed/sensory tasting sessions)

· Support schools to write a school food policy

· Build relationships and work closely with teachers, teaching assistants, chefs, kitchen teams and senior leaders in schools to improve the food on offer to students

· Collect data and maintain accurate records relating to the project

· Work closely with our Evaluation team to complete all monitoring and evaluation

· Work in collaboration with other Birmingham school food partners

· Share learnings with other SFM regional Project Officers

· Gather content for our Comms team (website and social media platforms)

· Keep Scaling Manager fully updated on progress

· Keep up to date with safeguarding requirements and reporting procedures

· Maintaining the ethos of the charity and positively promoting our work at all times

· You will also be expected to undertake any other tasks relevant to the affairs of SFM that may arise from time to time.  Therefore, being flexible and approaching the job with an open and positive mindset is essential.

Person specification

Essential

· Registered nutritionist or advanced understanding of nutritional guidelines and health promotion

· Good interpersonal skills, with experience of building relationships

· Confident engaging with a variety of audiences (students, headteachers, school staff and parents), including communications via email, virtual and face to face meetings with the ability to deliver workshops & presentations

· Excellent administrative and organisational skills with great attention to detail

· Excellent IT skills including excel, word and email

· Able to work independently and remote

· Self-motivated and optimistic with a can-do attitude

· Ability to work in a team and seek help when needed

Desirable

· Experience of engaging and working with schools and/or communities

· Experience of working for a charity or not for profit organisation

· Knowledge in food education and children’s health

· Access to car

Rosebuds Preschool has a great opportunity for a Preschool and Family Operations Lead, to drive the quality and development of our award-winning services for children, young people, and families at the Max Roach Centre. This role emphasises a multi-disciplinary and integrated approach to early years education, play, and child initiatives.  

What does your role look like: 

Quality Oversight: Ensure high-quality early years learning and care at Rosebuds Preschool. Develop quality assurance frameworks to evaluate service effectiveness in addition to the formulation of a meaningful programme of family and child centred activities within our Play and Family Support initiatives at the centre. 

Program Development: Design and manage family and child-centered activities in our play, and Family Support initiatives. Collaborate with practitioners to enhance educational offerings and align with best practices. 

Multi-Disciplinary Collaboration: Promote integrated working across early years sectors. Engage in collaborative planning with educators, social services, health providers, and community organizations. 

Leadership and Management: Advanced Early Years management knowledge, understanding and experience is fundamental to this role. Provide leadership and mentorship to staff, fostering professional development and continuous improvement.

Community Engagement: Organise year-round activities reflecting the Max Roach community's needs. Build relationships with partners to create a robust ecosystem for families.

Requirements: 

Looking for an individual that can inspire and develop a team, is willing to learn and has a passion for working with children, young people and their families. With a recognised qualification in Early Years / Childcare at Level 3 with a proven track record of 5 year's experience in a management / leadership role in an early years setting.

Experience of: 

• devising and applying a high quality curriculum for young children within the Early Years Foundation Stage. 

• managing a team of early years professionals to improve the quality of EY practice. 

• working with external groups / partners / organisations in a EY provision in a way that supports the child and its’ family in a holistic way. 

• Oversight and designed lead for Safeguarding children, Health and Safety. 

• Monitoring activities / services using a database system. 

• Managing and working within a designated budget. 

Role Title: Preschool and Family Programmes Lead 

Hours: 35 hours per week, 8 hours per day Monday to Friday (Hours will include some afterschool wraparound, occasional evenings and weekends).
