About the role

The Director of Membership Services provides strategic leadership for the Membership Services directorate and is therefore responsible for the development and implementation of all Imperial College Union strategy relating to Student Activities, Representation, Advice, Governance and Policy. The role ensure the delivery and resourcing of operating plans, policy and operating procedures to ensure that the Union delivers its strategic objectives across its Membership Services.

The successful candidate will ensure that the directorate develops and delivers impactful and inclusive services which champion and enhance the Student Experience at Imperial College. They will ensure that the Union values of integrity, inclusivity, and innovation guide the work of the directorate, and will develop and maintain excellent working relationships with internal, College and external stakeholders. They will also be a member of the Union’s Operational Management Group and Leadership Team, and as such will be responsible for the strategic development of the Union and ensuring that the Union works towards delivering its mission and aims.

This role requires strategic thinking, operational expertise, and the ability to build effective relationships. Candidates should have experience managing budgets, leading teams, and driving innovation within a membership or student-focused organisation. The ability to work collaboratively while delivering student-centred initiatives is key to success in this position.

Purpose of the role:

The purpose of this role is to build on our programme of strategic engagement with our key audiences, in order to build our presence, influence and networks in a wide range of UK sectors and topical issues. This includes leading the design and delivery of some of our focused programmes in which we award Fellowships and supporting the Fellows awarded into these programmes to help them increase their UK impact once they’ve done their overseas learning. This role is responsible for delivering all engagement activity across our Arts and culture, Community and citizenship, Environment and resources and Governance and public provision universal themes.  

Key responsibilities:

Programme Development and Delivery

• With oversight from the Engagement Director, and working with members of the Advisory Council to develop the focus and goals of a three-year Fellowship programme within our Governance and Public Provision universal theme through a process of desk-based research and consultation workshops
• Working with the Head of Comms to design and plan the launch of the new programme to applicants
• Working with the Head of Fellowship to design a support package for applicants into the programme
• With oversight from the Engagement Director, creating and facilitating a Working Group of Fellows, partners and Council members to support the cohort of Fellows awarded within this programme. And working with the other Research and Engagement Manager to develop and enhance our approach to stewarding these Working Groups including ones already in place for our other programmes.

• Supporting the Engagement Director in the recruitment and stewardship of Knowledge Partners for this programme and other programmes under your four thematic sectors

• Working with members of our Advisory Council to review our two environment related programmes with a view to revising them or developing them further.
• Reviewing the progress of each programme under your remit with the relevant Advisory Council members and the Working Group at the end of the applications cycle and before the programme reopens for applications

 Sector Relations & Networking

• Researching target audiences, stakeholders, partners and allies, in the four thematic sectors you oversee. Building relationships and maintaining our database of these.
• Developing and managing a systematic programme of engagement with these audiences, through communications and activities including talks, briefings, events, newsletters, publications and other opportunities.
• Systematic promotion of Fellows into these sectors.

Creation of Engagement Content

• Designing and delivering a programme of engagement events for Fellows including webinars and convenings to provide support, knowledge sharing and networking opportunities for the community of Fellows
• Leading on the design and delivery of a programme of wrap-up engagement activity for Fellows in our Rural communities programme
• Leading on the discovery and development phase of a programme of wrap-up engagement activity for Fellows in our Arts and Communities and Children and Young People with experience of care programmes.
• Assisting with the creation of sector content to support the dissemination of Fellows’ learning into their sectors
• Writing engagement materials such as case studies for a wide range of sectors and issues.

• Filtering Fellows’ surveys for case studies and other material.

Post-learning support for the community of Fellows

• Working with partners to deliver training and upskilling support to Fellows to help them increase their UK impact
• Supporting Fellows to distil their learning into ‘reports’ which can be used to disseminate their learning and recommendations
• Ad hoc support to individual Fellows to help them connect with their sectors and each other, and promote their learning and recommendations
• Working with the Engagement team to rethink and pilot new approaches to post overseas learning support for Fellows including grants, events, training, community platforms and more
• Supporting the Engagement Director with the biennial Awards Ceremony for Fellows

And to undertake any additional appropriate duties as may reasonably be required on either a short or long term basis.

Working for The Churchill Fellowship 

• Salary c. £43,000-46,000 per annum (5 days per week / 36.5 hours)

This is a full-time role in a well-established charity based in Twickenham. This role would suit someone who wants to have the opportunity to work flexibly and build their career in the Charity sector with experience of working in social care.

Richmond Carers Centre has the mission to help unpaid adult carers to live a full, active and meaningful life by providing them with advice, information, activities, breaks and emotional support either face to face, by phone or by email to enable them to live well.

As an Adult Carers Support Worker, you will be part of a small, dedicated team and take a lead on providing emotional support to adult carers and a commitment to enhancing their health and wellbeing. Much of your work will involve actively listening to carers, often via the phone support line, providing information, advice and support. As part of the Adult Carers Support Team, you will also be involved in organising breaks for carers, outreach activities and leisure events, as well as group work to help enhance carers’ health and wellbeing. Part of the role will also aim to improve the identification, recognition and understanding of the needs of adult carers, raise the profile of adult carers and ensure adult carers needs are met. You’ll also be expected to work with our volunteers and to use appropriate monitoring and evaluation reports to show our funders what we’ve achieved.

• To work where appropriate with other service providers/agencies to promote the carer agenda or jointly deliver carer support issues
• To be proactive in the registration of carers living or caring for someone within the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames
• To keep accurate records of group and individual carer engagement for monitoring and evaluation purposes
• To participate in key events organised by Richmond Carers Centre and other relevant partners to promote services to a wider public

Location: Liberation centre Brixton,  London (New office in Brixton)/ Remote working within the UK with at least 2 days work from our office (Pro rata for part time)

Contract: Part time (32hrs/weekly),  fixed-term contract for 2 years, with potential for extension and role expansion.

Hours: TAA has flexible working hours, with some expected evenings and weekends due to the nature of the role. All extra hours are reimbursed as Time off in Lieu (TOIL).

Start date:  As soon as possible (potentially August)

The Advocacy Academy is an activist youth movement. We serve as the political home for grassroots youth organising and the catalyst for collective action. The lives of the young people we work alongside have been directly shaped by living in an unjust world, and we exist to turn their anger into action. 

Young people are often the catalysts for major social change, from the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee at the heart of the Civil Rights Movement, to the Soweto Uprising mobilising young people to resist the apartheid regime's education policies, to the Sunrise Movement redrawing the electoral map across America, and more recently encampments and protests across the world protesting the genocide in Palestine. How successfully they achieve real and lasting change depends on whether they are organised and whether they have the right strategy and tactics to be effective. 

This is why we are looking for an Operations Lead capable of envisioning the full journey of a young person through their time with The Advocacy Academy from the first activation point to whenever they choose to end their journey with us. We want someone who is excited work with us in creating an environment that supports our mission and aspiration for our young people.

We want our young leaders to win and to build real power across the UK that ensures that the generations that follow aren’t just inheriting our mess, but our equipped and ready to fix it. That is why we are looking for someone passionate, a trusted partner, and the go-to person who will support us in all aspects of facility management. Working closely with the Operations and Community team, you will be responsible for the physical spaces and infrastructure within TAA. This includes overseeing the maintenance, security, and functionality of the Liberation Centre, equipment, and physical assets. Your focus is on the efficient operation of the physical environment.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

1. You will become a key member of the Finance, HR & Operations Team, including but not limited to:
   1. Supporting the Director of Finance, HR & Operations in maintaining and improving the relevant operational systems and processes.
   2. Supporting the Director of Finance, HR, and Operations in ensuring the delivery of our Liberation Centre strategy: working closely with the Community team to ensure the Centre provides a functional, welcoming, inclusive, and safe space environment for our staff, young people, and community.
   3. Building relationships with other departments, engaging with them to understand their needs, and communicating regular Operations updates.
2. You will ensure that your responsibilities run like well-oiled machines by being a conductor of the orchestra through becoming a key member of the Finance, HR and Operations team supporting the team to achieve their strategic objectives for the year:
   1. Provide Support for TAA’s facilities, including cost savings and ensuring a safe and conducive work environment for our staff, members, and community groups by:
      • Supporting the Director of Finance, HR, and Ops in ensuring the maintenance of our Liberation Centre, which includes: establishing protocols and processes for healthy work environments, supporting in making the space accessible and safe for all its user groups.
      • Supporting maintenance and safety checks are regularly carried out at the Liberation Centre, including security and fire systems, evacuation, and emergency drills.
      • Acting as the main point of contact with the council and centre manager and liaising on matters related to maintenance and repair.
      • Being the main point of contact for building contractors.
      • Supporting with identifying first aiders and marshals, acting as one of them, and ensuring that the first aid box is adequately stocked up at the Liberation Centre and that the fire extinguishers are within date.
      • Supporting the Director of Finance, HR, and Operations with the development of applicable risk assessment forms (e.g., general risk assessment for the Liberation Centre, fire risk assessment, COVID, remote work, employee wellbeing, incident report, etc.) and their completion as may be required.
      • Rolling out mandatory Health and Safety training courses and undergoing regular H&S training to keep your knowledge updated and informed of changes in regulations.
      • Ensuring the space is well-stocked, and holding our procurement practices 
      • Liaising with our cleaner and making sure that the relationship works well and that the cleaner is supported in their access of the space
      • Supporting the Community team in holding overall safety practices for the Liberation Centre 
   2. Provide Support on TAA IT infrastructure, to include but not limited to:
      • Act as the primary point of contact for our IT support provider, engaging with them to ensure they are managing troubleshooting and issue resolution well.
      • Support the Finance, HR and Ops Director with planning for future IT infrastructure needs, keeping scalability and cost-efficiency in mind.
      • Assist the Director Finance and Resources with monitoring IT and data protection compliance throughout the organisation, ensuring secure data storage, transfers, archiving and deletion.
      • Sourcing and Setting up laptops and phones for staff, and supporting staff in using tech as part of inductions.
      • Keep updated with changes in legislation that may need to be considered within The Advocacy Academy’s facilities and IT management.
      • Managing our trello project management tool.
      • Leading on tech repair via apple support or penelope for the staff team
   3. Provide HR support, to include but not limited to
      • Supporting the Head of People with DBS checks and the onboarding of new staff, ensuring they have the necessary information and equipment for their work.
      • Working with the Head of People to ensure that all our candidates have a great experience from the beginning to the end. 
      • Support with Office induction for new starters.
      • Supporting with planning social events.
      • Supporting on tech off  boarding for staff leaving
   4. Provide M & E Support, to include but not limited to
      • Coordinating and supporting the implementation of  monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEAL) infrastructure across departments to track impact and efficiency.
      • Managing and optimising Airtable dashboards and databases to streamline data reporting and enable insights for decision-making.
   5. Provide Finance Support, to include but not limited to:
      • Be the main point of contact for our day to day Host finance administration. 
      • Supporting our team with generating sales invoices.
      • Monitoring and responding to our Operations and expenses and invoicing slack and email messages.
      • Processing invoices and expenses in a timely and accurate manner.
      • Supporting fundraising team with gift-aid reconciliation.

The Role

We have embraced the benefits of working from home and at the same time, we value the contribution of face-to-face contact in building teamwork, collaborating with your colleagues, exchanging ideas and know-how, and for work efficiency. We therefore operate a hybrid working policy, where staff can work from home if they wish, however everyone is required to work in the office a minimum of 1 to 2 days a week with Tuesdays as the core day for regular whole team meetings.

Recruitment Process

We hope to meet initially with as many candidates as possible, however where demand is unusually high, we may not be able to meet everyone.

Role description

As our director of digital and information security, you will lead our digital risk and resilience team and programme in order to help build resistance and resilience among the people and movements challenging unaccountable power.

Your focus in this senior role at this crucial time will be on leadership, strategy, growth, and culture, with specific responsibility for our digital risk and resilience programme, internal information security, and tech transformation. Your responsibilities will include:

Lead our digital risk and resilience programme

1. Manage the design and delivery of our digital and information security support, including:
   • Coordinate the digital security mentoring, accompaniment, and capacity sharing we deliver to at-risk activists and low-resource civil society organisations referred through our rapid response mechanism.
   • Oversee the professional information security consultancy and advisory services we provide to high-profile nonprofit and foundation clients.
   • Develop our holistic security approach and ensure the smooth delivery of holistic security projects as part of our cross-programme leadership group.
2. Lead a team of digital and information security professionals and technologists, including:
   • Build and maintain an effective team, and recruit, onboard, and mentor new consultants as required to meet increased demand or to fill gaps.
   • Inspire, motivate, and line manage team members and foster a team culture that ensures psychological safety and reflects our values.
   • Quality assure and provide expert input into the work of consultants in the team as appropriate.
3. Drive our evolution in this risk domain from a service-focussed workstream to an impact-driven programme, including:
   • Build strategic relationships with hubs, hotlines, networks, and other key nodes in the protection ecosystem, particularly across the global majority.
   • Produce tools, guides, and trainings on key digital and information security issues of concern to activists and organisations at risk.
   • Raise Open Briefing’s profile in the digital rights and tech communities by representing the organisation externally, including at conferences and events and within relevant civil society networks.

Champion our own digital and information security

1. Maintain an up-to-date registry of our valuable and sensitive information assets and the technical and organisational measures in place to protect them.
2. Define, prioritise, and implement additional technical and organisational measures to better protect each of our valuable and sensitive information assets.
3. Continuously improve the digital hygiene of our team members and the security of our devices, accounts, communications, and website by introducing additional general measures, including device management and regular digital security training.
4. Coordinate our response to any data breach or security incident involving our information assets, devices, accounts, communications, or website.

Drive tech transformation in our organisation

1. Act as a catalyst for change and drive tech transformation as a strategic enabler of our growth and scale.
2. Map current systems and workflows to identify gaps, reduce complexity, and deliver improvements that strengthen security and ease staff burden.
3. Lead the specification, procurement, and implementation of new tools – including secure case management, communication, and collaboration systems – and oversee change management and training to ensure successful adoption across our team.
4. Establish a clear and responsive process for handling team requests for IT and digital security support, ensuring timely assistance and continuous improvement.

1. Play an active role in strategic decision making, organisation development, and delivering our three-year strategy as a key part of our senior leadership team.
2. Support our CEO and development director to cultivate new and existing funding partnerships, including for our digital risk and resilience programme.

You will be supported in your role by a digital risk and resilience coordinator and a team of highly-motivated consultants, other members of the senior leadership team, our office manager, and a CEO who models servant leadership. You will also have detailed handover notes and access to our extensive internal knowledge base and up-to-date project management system.

Person specification

Essential

1. You will be an experienced and empathetic leader or manager who values collaboration and teamwork.
2. You will have a proven track record in digital and information security roles.
3. You will have considerable digital and information security expertise and be able to communicate and apply that knowledge clearly, concisely, and effectively.
4. You will have experience working with nonprofits and foundations and/or grassroots movements, organisations, and activists.

This is a part-time role of 3 days per week in a well-established charity based in Twickenham. This role would really suit someone who wants to have the opportunity to work flexibly and build their career in the Charity sector.

Richmond Carers Centre has the mission to help unpaid and family adult carers to live a full, active and meaningful life by providing them with advice, information, activities, breaks and emotional support either face to face, by phone or by email to enable them to live well.

As the Adult Carers Activities Coordinator, you will directly deliver our leisure break activity and training programmes. You will plan, deliver, promote and review a programme of activities for adult carers, including outreach activities and leisure events, as well as group work to help enhance carers’ health and wellbeing. The core aim of the activity programme is to provide carers with a much needed break from their caring responsibilities, in a safe and social environment where they can meet other carers and focus on their wellbeing.

You will be someone:

• To coordinate and deliver an established activities programme for adult carers with the aim to provide them with a break from their caring role and socialise with other carers to help reduce their isolation.
• To coordinate and deliver a training workshop programme to provide carers with information and advice to support them with their caring role and opportunities to learn.
• To work with relevant professionals to deliver a programme of wellbeing activities, including yoga, Pilates and complementary therapies.
• To recruit, train, support and manage volunteers and paid sessional staff to contribute to the delivery of a selection of the activities and workshops.
• To research and continually develop the activities and training programmes to ensure it is responsive to carers needs.
• To create promotional material to promote activities and training opportunities to carers registered with Richmond Carers Centre.
• To work with Adult Carers Support Team Leader to ensure activities are within budget, achieving targets and meeting the requirements of funders.
