Job description

Safety, Health and Environment Manager

Up to £42,401 p.a.

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Safety, Health and Environment Manager at our Nottingham Office.  It is a full time, permanent opportunity.

This starts with ensuring that our staff, volunteers, service users and buildings are safe and ensuring that we are operating in an environmentally responsible and sustainable manner.

This role would suit a forward-thinking safety professional with excellent communication skills. Reporting to the Head of Safety, Health, Environment and Quality and covering multiple sites across the East Midlands on a consistent basis, the SHE Manager will:

· Take the lead for setting the strategic framework for the management of Safety, Health, Environmental and Fire Safety standards and helping to maintain, update and improve the company's management systems.

· Implement best practice techniques and culture to achieve the aims of the organisation by delivering against objectives that enable continuous improvement

· Be a provider of information, giving technical guidance on all Health, Safety and Environmental matters, identifying and advising on current and future requirements and ensuring that systems, policies and processes are in place to support the continuing development of a good SHE culture across the organisation

· Conduct site inspections and audits as required and raise awareness of good practices

· Review contractor performance in relation to health, safety and environment.

· Have the ability to communicate across all levels of the organisation

· attend regular meetings with services and departments including meetings with enforcement authorities (Fire, EHO, HSE, CQC)

· Review incident and accident investigations and lead on investigation into serious and untoward incidents and the implementation of the resulting recommendations

· Review risk assessments and method statements  

· Develop and assist in the delivery of training

· Manage and develop a growing team

· Work with project & operational teams closely to advise and maintain Health and Safety performance

· Develop and implement strategies

· Attend and lead on Health and Safety matters at meetings

· Organise the Framework Health and Safety Forum.

The successful candidate will be organised, have strong communication skills, be able to manage their own diary autonomously and be proactive within their work.  They will also have;

  • Excellent knowledge of ISO/OHSAS standards with experience in maintaining and updating these management systems
  • Previous experience in a similar role preferably within the housing sector.
  • Professional membership of IOSH ideally at GradIOSH or CMIOSH level.  Candidates working towards this level or with membership of other safety related bodies, with suitable experience will also be considered.
  • Experience in change management to promote a culture where Safety, Health and Environment is a priority
  • Current drivers’ licence and access to own vehicle
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a positive and flexible approach to safety.
