We are looking for a Senior Trusts and Philanthropy Manager with an inspiring national social welfare charity, to be responsible for the philanthropic donations from Major Donors, Trusts and Foundations, and Statutory Funders.

The Role
Reporting directly to the Head of Supporter Development, this position puts you at the helm of a dynamic team of four, overseeing relationships with Major Donors, Trusts, Foundations, and Statutory Funders.

Your strategic leadership will be crucial in implementing the new Mid Value donor program, ensuring not only short-term cash growth but also long-term legacy pledges.

You will manage a portfolio of high value donors, providing compelling and engaging cultivation and stewardship plans, cases for support and impact reporting.

You will safely steward the management of our growing facilities and assets, as well as being the initial point of contact for the Central Services department.  You will play a key role in contributing to the supervision of our Nature Discovery Centres, offices and other premises, manage the complex array of assets situated on our 111 nature reserves including vehicle fleet, equipment etc and assist in ensuring that our health and safety management systems are being delivered and consistently improved.

To support this new strategy and to develop our fundraising further, we are now looking for a proactive and experienced grants fundraiser to join our Development and Corporate Partnerships Team on a 12-month contract in a new and pivotal role.  During this initial 12 months you will be working to develop and implement a new plan which will significantly increase funding for our core scientific research from research bodies and other funding sources, develop support for our sustainability projects, and secure new institutional and government funding for our national education programmes.

Reporting into the Head of Trusts and Statutory Funding and based either at our headquarters in London, or at RHS Garden Wisley in Surrey, you will work closely with our science and education departments, collaorating with colleagues to develop a strong pipeline of sustainable and long-term funding for our programmes, core activities and new initiatives.  You will be familiar with fundraising for scientific research and other core programmes and be able to utilise your existing experience and networks across a broad range of funding sectors.

We are seeking an experienced Fundraising Manager to drive forward relationship building and income generation across all income streams, especially Individual Giving including appeals and major donors, Corporates, Trusts & Foundations and Legacies.

You will collaborate across the Trust to develop innovative and compelling funding proposals, delivering excellent stewardship to existing donors, and identifying, researching and engaging new prospects. You will ensure continuous improvement and innovation and an appropriate balance of fundraising activity across all streams, evaluating new ideas for income generation and strategies for implementation. 

Working closely with the Director of Fundraising and Engagement you will develop the Fundraising Strategy, and as a member of the Extended Leadership Team, will be the lead for driving forward sustainable fundraising activity in collaboration with colleagues.
 
A compelling and engaging communicator, you’ll be adept at managing a portfolio of donors at different stages – from prospecting and cultivation through to ask, stewardship and retention, working at all levels of the Trust to achieve ambitious fundraising targets. 

You must have substantial experience working in a senior fundraising position with a natural talent for building positive relationships both internally and externally, developing a fundraising team and growing a mixed fundraising portfolio. Main Duties and Responsibilities

Research and Identification of Funders

• Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of our research projects and research funding plans, including in response to requests from Heads of Department and Senior Management Team;
• Research, identify and prioritise potential grants, personal & institutional trusts and statutory funders and funding opportunities, including keeping up to date with new fundraising opportunities in the faith and heritage sectors and in London;

Fundraising

• Secure funding from UK trusts, foundations and statutory funding bodies to meet Budgetary targets and support proposed future projects at the Cathedral;
• Support the implementation of a trusts and foundations programme, with a view to increasing funding for flagship projects alongside core unrestricted funding;
• Assist with the organisation of fundraising events as required;
• Ensure approaches to trusts and other donors are streamlined and targeted.

Contact and Liaison

• Manage the Cathedral’s donor records including gift aid declarations, personal information and legacy pledges and other non-financial information provided by donors - adhering to data protection best practice at all times;
• Liaise with the Marketing & Communications Manager to analyse the existing donor communications and suggest improved methods of engagement;
• Liaise with the Marketing & Communications Manager to arrange for the creation and maintenance of pages on the Cathedral website that highlight the fundraising activity and communicate successes achieved;
• Act as the primary point of contact for all existing and potential trust and grants funders, directing enquiries as appropriate;
• Develop a network of strong relationships with existing and prospective grant, trust and statutory funders;
• Organise meetings and events for prospective supporters and provide briefings for colleagues.

Information Management, Monitoring and Evaluation

• Maintain the Cathedral’s fundraising database, ensuring all records are updated and maintained correctly in accordance with the Cathedral’s data protection policy;
• Manage the reporting, recording and administration progress of existing grants, advising relevant members of the team well in advance of reporting deadlines;
• Work with others to develop and implement effective evaluation, monitoring and reporting processes for funders, and ensure reporting requirements are fulfilled and activities remain outcome and impact focused;
• Manage and maintain records and monitor progress of applications and relationships, including working to agreed KPIs;
• Prepare regular progress reports on fundraising and activities for SMT and the Chapter as required;
• Use the Cathedral’s fundraising database to analyse the success rates to support fundraising strategy and individual projects;
• Work with the Finance team to ensure that all funding is quickly and correctly processed and acknowledged and that financial reports are available in the appropriate format;
• Work with the Governance & Committees Manager and Finance Team to support reporting requirements and compliance with the relevant legislation and codes of conduct;
• Work with the COO and Marketing & Communications Manager to create appropriate evaluation and legacy documentation.

Other

• Manage the relevant administration that accompanies this role, including booking meetings and taking minutes as required;
• Play an active role as a member of the Cathedral team, supporting each other as required;
• Be an ambassador for the Cathedral and assist the Fundraising Advisory Panel in developing positive relationships with the Cathedral’s key stakeholders.

Person Specification

Knowledge/Experience

• You will have experience of writing fundraising bids and completing engaging applications;
• You will have knowledge and experience of heritage, community or religious grant-funding sources and how to access them;

• You will be proficient in project finances, and budgeting, with skills in persuasion, advocacy, problem-solving, and decision-making;
• Knowledge of best practice in the trusts sector is important;

• Membership of the Chartered Institute of Fundraising is desirable.

Terms and Conditions

Working Hours

The working hours shall be 35 hours per week (exclusive of meal breaks). Some out of hours working will be required to support meetings and events and this will be notified in advance. Time off in lieu will be awarded in line with Southwark Cathedral’s policy.

Annual Leave

25 days per annum as well as statutory bank holidays, with an additional 5 days (pro-rata) after 10 years service. 

Probation

The appointment is subject to the satisfactory completion of a six-month probationary period.

Season Ticket Loan

Once the probationary period has been completed satisfactorily, the person appointed will be eligible to take out a season ticket loan.

Pension

The person appointed will be eligible to join a defined contributions pension scheme managed by the Church Workers Pension Fund. The Cathedral will contribute half of the annual premium of 10% of salary.

Working Expenses

Reasonable out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Risk & Assurance Manager to join our Audit, Risk & Governance Team. This role will require the successful candidate to support to the Head of Audit, Risk & Governance in the implementation and oversight of effective risk management and assurance policies and procedures for the whole organisation.

Role Requirements

 You will attend the Audit & Risk Committee and other board committees from time to time to present on risk and assurance.  With experience of delivering 2nd line risk and assurance activities within large, complex or heavily regulated organisation, you will be effective in building professional relationships and influencing and collaborating with colleagues from all disciplines and at all levels. 

You will need to engage effectively with frontline and support colleagues to really understand the needs of our beneficiaries and the risks to the charity more broadly.  The ultimate objective of risk management at The Children’s Trust is to ensure the charity continues to deliver high-quality, safe and effective and financially sustainable services for vulnerable children now and in the longer-term.

Although the role does not have any formal direct reports, the Risk & Assurance Analyst will have a dotted line into the Risk & Assurance Manager, providing support particularly on business continuity but also on risk management as and when necessary.

With experience of working in a complex environment, across a large and diverse workforce, you will be exceptionally organised with a high-level of attention to detail. You will naturally possess excellent inter-personal skills, and an ability to consult and positively engage with key stakeholders across the organisation.

About the job

We are seeking a confident and experienced Modern Slavery Case Worker Assistant with a wide range of skills and importantly, a ‘can do’ approach. As a Modern Slavery Case Worker Assistant, you will provide high quality practical and emotional support to potential victims of modern slavery within a safehouse setting.

You will work as a member of the team providing a safe temporary environment for vulnerable adults who have experienced trauma and exploitation. The role will involve assisting service users with increasing practical skills and self-confidence to empower and enable independent and safe living.

This service is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Applicants must be willing to work flexibly, which will include on call duties, evenings, weekends and bank. Both roles will work between two properties approx. 4 miles apart on a Rota basis. A full induction and continuous training will be given.

The 30 hour per week post will be shifts from 4pm-10pm, 5 days per week, however, the initial induction will consist of day shifts until knowledge of safe house is comprehensive.

You must have experience of working with vulnerable adults, the ability to work within a ‘risk associated’ environment and ideally experience of working within a residential or community setting with non-UK citizens. Relevant social care qualifications or suitable experience of supporting vulnerable people is essential.

About you

Westway Trust is seeking a qualified accountant to join as our Head of Finance who will lead on all aspects of the finance function to achieve the Trusts goals.  You will also manage a small team and will offer strategic finance support across the range of activities undertaken by the organisation.

You will have significant experience operating at a senior level within a complex organisation and registered charity, and will possess the right blend and balance of strategic, communication, innovation and people skills.

Key responsibilities of the role include but not limited to:

• Lead, manage and improve the Trust’s finance function and provide accurate, timely and relevant financial reports as required by the CEO, Executive Team and the Trust Board.
• Be the Executive Lead of the Finance Audit and Risk Committee, ensuring timely papers to the CEO and to the Committee and Board as required and liaising with the Head of Governance and HR as required.
• Ensure the provision and reporting of financial accounts, forecasting and large-scale project/programme budgets, estate development plans, and the associated reporting.
• Oversight of the legal and financial statutory processes in line with the Charity Commission and Companies House requirements, including the Annual Audit. Allocating tasks for timely responses and keeping all colleagues abreast of progress.
• Monitor, cash flow, reserves, analysis of performance against the organisation’s annual business plan and dashboard as it relates to the finance function.
• Contribute to the overall leadership of the Trust and to the Trust’s future strategic and operational planning. Support Executive Team colleagues as required on the delivery of cross-team initiatives.
• Line management of the Senior Finance Manager, the Debt Recovery Consultant and the Development Partnerships Lead.

Essential Experience, Skills and Attributes:

• Significant and successful experience of operating as a Head of Finance, ideally in a charity setting.
• A track record of working collaboratively with a team to develop successful internal partnerships and achieve joint success against shared objectives.
• Experience of the finance function and all the associated processes, with strong attention to detail.
• Experience of implementing enhanced reporting tools within financial software, including the ability to coach others.
• Practical knowledge of VAT, including accounting of partial exemption relevant to charities.
• Experience of managing staff and supporting their development.
• Strong interpersonal skills for both workplace and external representation contexts, operating with enthusiasm, flexibility, energy and commitment and demonstrating credibility and gravitas.

Desirable Experience, Skills and Attributes:

• A good understanding of the local area.

Qualification:
