About the role

We are seeking a new Trusts and Foundations Manager, to maximise income for British Heart Foundation’s work through the research, development and management of high-level relationships with trusts and foundations.

You will manage a diverse portfolio of existing and prospective supporters, including some statutory funders. With an emphasis on new business, this post will focus on £75,000+ donors and securing multi-year gifts.

Growing income through strong relationships with private family trusts and institutions, you’ll provide a high level or personalised donor care and stewardship to encourage long term support.

About the team

BHF is creating a culture that drives transformational and sustainable income through philanthropic giving, from donors in the UK and overseas. To achieve this vision, we are building a high performing Philanthropy team comprising dynamic externally facing fundraisers, talented proposition writers, research and insight specialists, and event and stewardship experts.

Sitting within the Philanthropy team, the Trusts and Foundations Team structure comprises of Head of Trusts and Foundations, this role, another Trusts and Foundations Manager and a Trusts and Foundations Executive.

About you

An excellent communicator, influencer, and relationship builder, you have a proven track record of successful fundraising from trusts, foundations and institutional funders. You'll also bring experience in securing 5-6 figure gifts from new and existing donors along with demonstrable experience in developing new relationships from identification through to securing the first gift.

A strong team player, you'll have experience of writing compelling funding proposals and reports and communicating complex issues clearly and succinctly. 

Flexible, approachable, and collaborative, you'll be able to work closely with senior stakeholders, internally and externally to develop and execute solicitation plans.

You'll excel in forging strong and meaningful relationships, demonstrating the drive and passion to maximise funding opportunities. Additionally, you'll have the confidence and knowledge to be an ambassador for the BHF cause and our objectives.

Streatham Youth and Community Trust (SYCT) is seeking an experienced Interim CEO to navigate the organisation through a critical period of transition. The ideal candidate will possess a proven track record in turnaround management within the charitable sector, capable of implementing strategic and operational changes to address systemic issues and rebuild organisational strength and sustainability, while stabilising the relationship with the wider community.

SYCT is currently facing significant financial and operational challenges. In this context, the board and the newly appointed CEO have had to make a number of difficult but necessary decisions. The recent closure of the charity-run nursery due to a combination of quality and financial viability concerns has resulted in a significant amount of noise. As a result, she has decided that she is not the right person to lead the turnaround efforts. She will stay in post until 28th June 2024 if needed, but is happy to step back after a brief handover as soon as a suitable Interim CEO can start in the role.

Top priorities for the Interim CEO will be leading the organisation through a period of restructuring, focusing on rebuilding core services, stakeholder relationships, processes and systems; and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, including health and safety standards and HR protocols.

Key details:

• Role: Interim CEO at Streatham Youth and Community Trust
• Salary: c.£75,000 per annum, pro rata.
• Start date: immediate / asap, at latest by mid-June
• Contract:

· This is a nine-month interim position with the strong possibility of extension to twelve months based on organisational needs.

· This is a full-time role, with 4+ days per week to be spent on SYCT’s sites around Streatham. For highly experienced candidates, the role could be considered on a pat time basis (4 days per week), and/or with 3 days spent on site.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

• Proven experience as a CEO or senior executive in a turnaround management capacity, preferably within the charitable sector.
• Track record of establishing effective policies, processes and systems within an organisation.
• Strong financial acumen and experience in financial restructuring and budgetary management.
• Demonstrable leadership skills with a track record of leading organisations and teams through significant organisational and cultural change.
• Sound understanding of governance, compliance, and risk management principles.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels, to include experience of overseeing effective social media and community engagement campaigns.

 We are looking for a Research and Policy Assistant to contribute to and support the Trust’s research, evaluation and policy monitoring activity. This includes collecting and communicating research and policy evidence and information, to inform the development of the Trust’s current and potential programmes of work.

An understanding of different types of research methods and excellent communication skills are essential for this role. Knowledge of the barriers experienced by disabled people and those living with mental health conditions as well as an understanding of local and national policy context are welcomed.

Summary of key duties:

Collecting research evidence and policy information

The Role

Research new trust supporters, build a warm pipeline and submit well written trust proposals to funders for applications c £10-30k value. Targeted income for this role is c£100k.

Maintain accurate, up to date and comprehensive records of trusts on the fundraising database or CRM system (currently Raisers Edge).

Strategy Development and Implementation

Under the leadership of our new CEO, we are looking to develop our strategy, policies and processes, better measure our impact, and explore fundraising opportunities beyond our investment income so we can expand and develop our services.

• Lived experience of sight loss or a strong understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with sight loss would be advantageous but not essential.

Key Responsibilities

1. To lead the development and implementation of the vision and strategy of Souster Youth Trust.

Westway Trust is seeking a qualified accountant to join as our Head of Finance who will lead on all aspects of the finance function to achieve the Trusts goals.  You will also manage a small team and will offer strategic finance support across the range of activities undertaken by the organisation.

You will have significant experience operating at a senior level within a complex organisation and registered charity, and will possess the right blend and balance of strategic, communication, innovation and people skills.

Key responsibilities of the role include but not limited to:

• Lead, manage and improve the Trust’s finance function and provide accurate, timely and relevant financial reports as required by the CEO, Executive Team and the Trust Board.
• Be the Executive Lead of the Finance Audit and Risk Committee, ensuring timely papers to the CEO and to the Committee and Board as required and liaising with the Head of Governance and HR as required.
• Ensure the provision and reporting of financial accounts, forecasting and large-scale project/programme budgets, estate development plans, and the associated reporting.
• Oversight of the legal and financial statutory processes in line with the Charity Commission and Companies House requirements, including the Annual Audit. Allocating tasks for timely responses and keeping all colleagues abreast of progress.
• Monitor, cash flow, reserves, analysis of performance against the organisation’s annual business plan and dashboard as it relates to the finance function.
• Contribute to the overall leadership of the Trust and to the Trust’s future strategic and operational planning. Support Executive Team colleagues as required on the delivery of cross-team initiatives.
• Line management of the Senior Finance Manager, the Debt Recovery Consultant and the Development Partnerships Lead.

Essential Experience, Skills and Attributes:

• Significant and successful experience of operating as a Head of Finance, ideally in a charity setting.
• A track record of working collaboratively with a team to develop successful internal partnerships and achieve joint success against shared objectives.
• Experience of the finance function and all the associated processes, with strong attention to detail.
• Experience of implementing enhanced reporting tools within financial software, including the ability to coach others.
• Practical knowledge of VAT, including accounting of partial exemption relevant to charities.
• Experience of managing staff and supporting their development.
• Strong interpersonal skills for both workplace and external representation contexts, operating with enthusiasm, flexibility, energy and commitment and demonstrating credibility and gravitas.

Desirable Experience, Skills and Attributes:

• A good understanding of the local area.
• Experience of change management.
• Competency in use of Access Dimensions, Focal Point and other MS Office software packages.

Qualification:

• Must hold a formally recognised professional accounting qualification.
