A new opportunity has arisen to join the Newt Conservation Partnership as NCP Finance Administration Assistant to support our efforts to create and manage high-quality habitat for great crested newts. This is an exciting time to join our team as we expand to maximise our impact for freshwater habitats and species.

Working alongside NCP’s Operations Manager and Administrator, the NCP Finance Administration Assistant will support daily financial tasks, using bookkeeping skills to ensure accurate and efficient data processing. As part of a small but growing team, they will also assist with occasional office administration

Newt Conservation Partnership (NCP) is a community-benefit society whose main purpose is creating and managing high-quality habitat for great crested newts, at the same time providing new habitats for many other wetland plants and animals. Our work is underpinned by a spatial strategy, and we work at the landscape scale. We have an extensive monitoring programme, and generate critical data for assessing the success of the NatureSpace schemes. We work closely with our partners, Amphibian and Reptile Conservation and Freshwater Habitats Trust and follow their evidence-based best practice guidance for the conservation of amphibians and ponds.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for:

The Lead Coach is primarily responsible for overseeing the training room and group sessions with young people. You will help shape the training environment and will confidently adapt and deliver materials and sessions to work within the group’s development towards work readiness.

Delivery of Spear Programme - Group and 1:1 coaching [60%]

• Preparing and coaching Spear Foundation sessions and 1-1s, ensuring that young people are engaged, retained and work-ready by the end of this initial phase of the programme.
• Building relationships with young people on the programme and managing culture and attitudes in the training room.
• Adapting the Spear coaching material according to the needs of the Trainees and managing behaviour effectively.

Delivery of Spear Career [20%]

• Delivering weekly Spear Career sessions (including running workshops with past Trainees), maintaining records and reporting on statistics, and creatively developing ongoing relationships with Spear Trainees.

Training the Assistant Coach [10%]

• Contributing towards the training and developing of the Assistant Coach by modelling excellent coaching and giving regular feedback.

Trainee recruitment [10%]

• Developing relationships with Job Centres and local referral agencies to ensure that the maximum number of Spear Trainees are enrolled on each programme. This involves liaising with referral agencies, active face-to-face recruitment and monitoring recruitment statistics.

Active participation in and support for church team and mission

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:  

The Grant Portfolio Manager plays a central role in ensuring the Maitri Trust’s grantmaking delivers maximum impact. You will manage and support a diverse portfolio of strategically aligned partners, building close and flexible relationships to strengthen capacity, track progress, and respond to challenges as they arise. Alongside this, you will co-lead on the design, delivery, and onboarding of new partners through open calls helping to identify impactful and scalable initiatives. Working closely with colleagues across the team, you will help ensure that evidence from the portfolio drives learning, decision-making, and strategic alignment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES  

Management of Existing Grants & Partnerships

• Provide high-level advisory support and capacity building to grantees, focusing on technical assistance and strengthening partner impact. 
• Maintain oversight of active grants, ensuring compliance with contractual, financial, and reporting requirements.

• Represent the Maitri Trust in relevant partnership discussions, forums, committees and external events. 

Open Calls & Onboarding of New Partnerships

• Support the review of applications and prepare recommendations for decision-making. 
• Onboard new cohorts of partners, ensuring alignment with our strategy.

Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning 

• Build open and trusting relationships with partners to understand impact, successes and challenges, and share learning and adaptations. 
• Work closely with the Head of Impact & Engagement to contribute to portfolio-wide impact analysis and strategic learning reports.

YOUR SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND PROFILE 

Essential 

• 7+ years of proven experience in grant management within an international development or philanthropic context. 
• Significant experience in providing technical assistance, capacity building, or advisory support to organisations. 
• Postgraduate degree in a relevant subject, or an undergraduate degree plus specific experience in international development or philanthropic contexts. 
• Excellent analytical and strategic thinking capabilities, with experience in impact assessment and portfolio analysis. 
• Strong relationship building skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders across different cultural contexts. 
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience in preparing reports and recommendations.
• Experience in open call funding processes, grant application review processes, and due diligence.
• Knowledge of monitoring, evaluation, and learning frameworks.
• Ability to travel internationally and work across different time zones.

Desirable

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Trusts and Philanthropy fundraiser, to manage a portfolio of high level funders, whose support is vital to the work of Become.

Working closely with the Trusts and Philanthropy Manager and the wider Fundraising team, the postholder will research potential funders, write compelling grant applications, and build strong relationships with funders to ensure continued and increased support. They will have a strong track record of securing five/six-figure funding from trusts and foundations, and other giving vehicles, excellent research and writing skills, and the ability to manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders effectively.

Location

We are currently hybrid working: our team primarily works from home. In-person attendance at some meetings will be expected approximately once or twice every month, usually at our central hot-desking location in Old Street, London. For non-London based staff we will consider hot-desking options near you, if required. Additionally, as a charity providing services to England Become covers the cost of travel within England for essential in-person meetings. We are open to conversations about flexible working arrangements.

You will support the work of the Trust Company and Synod in all matters of compliance with Company and Charity legislation, overseeing the day-to-day operation of the Trust and Synod offices. You will also have the lead in-house responsibility for ensuring that the Board is able to discharge its financial responsibilities in an informed and timely manner. You will work with the honorary Synod Treasurer in liaising with and supporting local churches in financial matters.

You will be based in the Trust Office in Southampton, visiting other locations across the Wessex area as needed. Flexibility is also required for attending occasional evening and weekend meetings.

Key Responsibilities: Company Secretary 

1. in consultation with the Trust Executive Officer and the Chair of the Board, convene and provide administration for annual general meetings (AGMs) and Board meetings, including: 
   • producing agendas
   • making all papers available to the Board in a timely manner 
   • taking minutes
   • conveying decisions 
   • handling meeting correspondence 
2. provide legal, financial and/or strategic advice to the Board during and outside of meetings, and more generally advise the Board on corporate governance matters 
3. keep up to date with regulatory or statutory changes and policies that might affect the organisation 
4. ensure that the Company’s policies are up to date and are approved 
5. communicate with external professionals involved in corporate governance, such as auditors 
6. implement processes or systems to help ensure good management of the organisation or compliance with legislation 
7. file all necessary documents with the Charity Commission and Companies House, including the Annual Report and Accounts 
8. inform the Charity Commission and Companies House of appointments and resignations of Trustee Directors 
9. take responsibility for HR and the health and safety of employees, including payroll in liaison with external consultants 
   • maintain Role Descriptions for staff 
   • ensure that the Company’s Employment Handbook and statutory employment policies are reviewed and updated annually 
10. manage the Company’s premises and facilities, including IT in liaison with external consultants 

Key Responsibilities: Deputy Treasurer 

1. in collaboration with the Synod Treasurer: 
   • ensure the Wessex Trust is managing the assets of the Synod in an appropriate manner and in accordance with its strategy and policies 
   • report on the Synod’s financial matters and budgets to the Synod Executive and Trust
   • ensure that policies, operations and priorities are in keeping with the aims of the Wessex Synod. 
   • participate in the Synod Executive’s regular review of the Wessex Synod’s governance structure 
   • attend relevant Assembly level meetings for matters of concern to Synod Treasurers 
   • liaise with the Treasurers of the 12 other Synods, with a particular focus on commitments to Inter-Synod Resource Sharing. 
2. manage the annual process to agree and deliver the overall contribution from the Synod to the United Reformed Church’s national Ministry and Mission Fund, or its successor 
3. develop and maintain a rolling 3-year projection of the Trust’s financial capacity 
4. participate in the appointment of the Trust Secretary and the Financial Accountant and participate in monitoring and evaluating their performance 
5. undertake line management responsibility for the Financial Accountant 
6. serve on the Investment Committee and assist in maintaining the Trust’s Investment and Reserves policies 
7. monitor changes in statutory financial requirements and ensure that relevant ones are implemented 
8. support the Trust Convener in the production of the Trustees’ Annual Report 
9. take overall responsibility in the staff team for work to prepare for and support the annual statutory audit 
10. lead the Trust’s response to the Audit Findings Report each year and prioritise responses.

As Trust and Foundation Fundraiser, you will devise and lead a trust and foundation fundraising strategy in order to achieve set goals and financial targets. About the role
Reporting to the Trusts & Foundations Manager, you will provide comprehensive support in trusts and foundations fundraising. You will manage a portfolio of four-figure donors, maintain the fundraising database, and help build a pipeline of new trusts and foundations aligned with the charity’s priorities.

• Build and nurture relationships with funders, managing your own portfolio.

About Us

The Bike Project is an award-winning charity which refurbishes second hand bikes and donates them to refugees.  We were founded in 2013 by, Jem Stein, after he struck up a friendship and found a bike for Adam, a Darfuri refugee who had fled his home in Sudan after war broke out.

The Bike Project has grown into a national operation with new CEO, hundreds of volunteers, a team of 20 committed staff, roadshows in different cities, an online shop and two workshops, one in the capital and one in Birmingham.

To date we have supported over 15,000 refugees and people seeking asylum by giving them a second-hand bike. In addition, we have supported hundreds through our programmes designed to build confidence and build friendships in the local community.

Duites and Responsibilities

This role oversees the securing and reporting of our Trusts and Foundation income, including working closely with colleagues to develop relevant, impactful and deliverable funding proposals and coordinate the stewardship of key trust and foundation relationships.

The role works closely with all colleagues to ensure a joined-up approach to income generation across the charity and our different supporter groups. 

Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience in preparing and submitting successful funding applications and proposals to charitable trusts and foundations, with a track record of securing five and six figure gifts, ideally within the refugee’s sector. You will have experience of working with, and applying for funding from, some of the larger grant organisations.

You will be experienced in identifying suitable prospects, developing pipelines, and managing funder relationships, adopting a strategic approach when working with colleagues across the organisation.

Location

This is a hybrid role, working from home with one day per week in either our London or Birmingham office. The salary is £42,000 for Birmingham-based employees and £45,000 for London-based employees, reflecting the London Living Wage adjustment
