 Given the rapidly changing humanitarian context, this role will play a leading part in shaping our position in ensuring locally led capability is at the forefront of sector best practices. It will help to strengthen and grow our response capabilities, impact, and accountability of our humanitarian portfolio.

The post will drive our response to international disasters, building programmes and partnerships to support both relief and recovery efforts. The portfolio includes a strong established climate resilience focus. The establishment and maintenance of effective local partnerships with credible local actors is essential to develop our Disaster Preparedness Initiative (a network of local partners in disaster prone countries who we work with to respond to large and small disasters).

You should have:

• A deep understanding of international development & humanitarian theory, practice and standards
• Extensive relevant experience in the humanitarian ecosystem 
• Experience of leading within disaster response situations 
• Experience of contributing to complex programme decision-making, basing practical recommendations on sound analysis of risk and opportunity 
• Experience and knowledge of international humanitarian policy and practice issues and the humanitarian architecture sufficient to command the respect of others in the sector
• Experience in using best practices and humanitarian standards in designing programmes.
• Commitment to and experience of supporting locally led humanitarian action.

The Opportunity:

This is where this new role comes in: The Head of Fundraising will play a crucial role in supporting the stewardship of the current donors while also securing the vital resources needed to realise our bold ambition and help us transform the lives of millions of young refugees and conflict affected youth across the globe.

You will be part of leading a growing and changing organisation, and will work closely with Amala’s two Co-founders and the Fundraising Manager to develop and implement a multi-year fundraising strategy, cultivate and deepen key donor relationships and boost our income growth from our current £800k towards our £3 million target by 2027, driving the financial sustainability necessary for Amala’s continued growth and impact.

• Experience developing and implementing multi-year income generation plans.

• A strong history of securing six-figure, multi-year grants and contracts in the UK and internationally, with an annual income generation of £1m+.

• Senior-level experience managing relationships with multiple, diverse funders and donors.

• Experience writing successful partnership bids, grant proposals, cases for support, and theories of change.

• Experience in leading change in a growing organisation.

• At least three years of experience leading and managing a team, with a track record of developing and supporting staff.

What we offer:

This full time, fully remote position offers a salary of £50,000-55,000 if you are a UK resident. If you reside in a different location, the salary will be adjusted accordingly. Key Responsibilities:

1. Support the Global Programmes communications coordinator in the implementation of the communications work plan and activities.

2. Assist in planning, writing, and managing website content and social media posts. This will be more focused towards multimedia assets (graphics, videos/reels, carousels, GIFs, infographics, social media stories, interactive content, banners, digital posters).

3. Assist in the updating of the organisation website using WordPress with current events, relevant news, etc.

4. Design event/programme fliers, graphics, and other marketing/social media or event material.

5. Coordinate with other communications colleagues to synergise social media campaigns and activities.

This newly created Fundraising Lead position will play a vital role in helping to deliver Flynne's Barn's core work; secure the financial standing of the charity; and develop exciting, forward-thinking projects.

We offer residential stays in the Lake District, bringing young people with a shared experience of cancer together to build community. We are praying for a talented Director of Fundraising and Supporter Partnerships to join our Leadership Team. You will be inheriting a skilled and diverse team raising income from individuals, legacies, trusts and foundations, corporates and major donors with the support from a new CRM system, to fulfil your responsibilities.

• Salary: £73,000 depending on experience + 13.8% employer contribution to pension, 30 days holiday plus Bank Holidays and 3 days ex-gracia during Christmas and New year + other benefits.
• Location: London City Mission will carefully consider flexible working patterns where possible, though at least 2 days a week presence at Nasmith House, 175 Tower Bridge Road will be necessary.

The post holder will work within our team of specialist welfare benefits advisers, as a specialist welfare benefits adviser providing information, advice, and guidance to clients in our Macmillan-funded Welfare Benefits Project, providing a welfare rights advice service to people affected by cancer to maximise their income.

Scope of role

The post holder will undertake casework, assisting clients to access their entitlements to welfare benefits and other sources of financial help. Advice will be delivered through a range of channels, including face-to-face, telephone, email, and other means, provide Welfare Benefits advice and information to people living with cancer and their families.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Case work

• Provide a full welfare benefits casework service for people affected by cancer. This includes disability benefits and other sources of financial support, such as grants and help with health and travel costs.

Welfare Benefit Appeals

• Assist clients to prepare for benefits appeals, research, and the draft was written legal submissions, and provide representation at tribunals as required.

Outreach

• Alongside other team members provide advice sessions through outreach, including at hospitals - currently St Bartholomews, Homerton, Royal London, Newham, and Whipps Cross; and at Toynbee Hall through telephone, email, and any other channel

Targets

• Meet targets as set with the line manager, which will change regularly depending on the needs of the services.

Quality Standard

• Ensure consistent quality assured advice, to AQS standard, monitored by checking casework and observations
• Maintain thorough and detailed case records for continuity of casework, information retrieval, statistical monitoring, and report preparation
• Use all relevant case management systems, such as Advice Pro, as well as Microsoft Office applications, for statistical recording, record keeping, and document production. Ensure all work conforms to Toynbee Hall’s systems and procedures.
• Along with the rest of the team ensure stocks of leaflets, posters, and stationary, are ordered from suppliers and distributed to outreach locations
• Gather statistics and feedback to monitor and evaluate the service, providing reports as required to the steering group, funders, and partners.

Social Policy

• Support Macmillan Toynbee Hall Welfare Rights Advice Service’s social policy work by providing case studies and feedback on issues of concern to people affected by cancer; including attending internal and appropriate external meetings, and identifying and acting upon social policy issues

Essential Criteria:

• Strong interpersonal skills
• Recent Welfare Benefits advice work experience, particularly in the areas of health and disability, with at least one year’s specialist welfare benefits casework experience.
• Ability to write detailed accurate case records and drafts, letters reports, and statements in plain English.
• Recent experiences of working in a performance-driven environment and evidence of meeting targets set.
• An ordered and disciplined approach to managing a challenging caseload, meeting targets; planning and prioritising work in the face of competing demands on your time.
• Strong interpersonal skills and experience working with clients suffering from health problems in a professional but empathetic manner, and the ability to respond sensitively to clients.
• An understanding of the issues facing people affected by long-term illness and disability, including cancer.
• Ability to research, understand and explain complex information both orally and in writing.
• Good knowledge of IT including familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, e.g. Word, Outlook, or equivalents, and case management systems.
• Knowledge of or willingness to gain an understanding of Macmillan Cancer Support’s services and policies relevant to people affected by cancer.
• An ordered approach to casework and an ability and willingness to follow set procedures concerning casework and file management etc.
• Ability and willingness to support volunteer advisers.
• Numeracy to the levels required in the tasks.

Our passionate Regional Casework Coordinators are SSAFA’s front line of support for members of the armed forces community in need. They are the first point of contact for all beneficiaries into the Regional Office, assessing needs and allocating the case to one of our volunteer caseworkers.

You will sometimes handle complex problems from individuals who may be distressed, identifying the presenting and potential underlying needs to determine the best way to support the beneficiary. You will have ownership of cases from beginning to end, coordinating the casework process in a timely manner and ensure that the beneficiary journey is at the centre of the Service. You will have the opportunity to shape processes and procedures within the office which will lead to improvements in the service offered to clients.

To help you establish yourself in this new post you will receive excellent training and induction to SSAFA.

Whilst the post is homebased, to be eligible for this role you are required to live in the North East England or Yorkshire region, which includes North, South, East and West Yorkshire, Teesside, County Durham, Tyne & Wear and Northumberland. There will be occasional travel around these areas, and you may be required to travel at short notice for face-to-face meetings.

About the team

The team work remotely and pride themselves in maintaining a close working bond which ensures the smooth operation of the office. You will work closely with volunteers from the eight SSAFA branches in the Northeast and Yorkshire, supporting them to administer casework for SSAFA beneficiaries. The successful candidate will work as part of a team 8, which includes a Regional Casework Manager and a Regional Manager for Casework and Community Engagement.

About you

To carry out this role successfully you will have a track record of providing welfare advice in key areas such as housing, benefits, debt, disability, mobility or immigration issues. You will have knowledge of safeguarding and GDPR and experience in dealing with sensitive information and people in vulnerable situations. You will be able to provide excellent customer service by telephone, e-mail and face to face. You will have used Microsoft Office 365 to a high standard. It is important that you have experience of planning and managing your own workload, with minimal supervision.

It would be advantageous if you have an understanding of the way of life for today’s Armed Forces, veterans and their families and if you have experience of recruiting and supporting volunteers. An understanding of the voluntary sector and preferably the military charity sector landscape across the Northeast and Yorkshire would be valuable.
