Welcome
Thank you for your interest in joining the CoachBright team as our new London Programme Officer.
We are a social mobility charity on a mission to support pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds become confident, independent, and resilient learners so they can lead the lives they want.
There is an attainment and outcomes gap in the UK between disadvantaged pupils and their wealthier peers. This is exacerbated when pupils have lower confidence in their own abilities and potential. Upward social mobility is made even harder when pupils lack relatable role models who have been to university or have professional occupations. We want to change this!
Now, more than ever, it is essential that young people from disadvantaged back- grounds get the support they need to achieve their goals. That’s why we’re playing our part to narrow the gap and support a generation of pupils to be their best.
We are young, ambitious, and optimistic, and are looking for someone as passionate as we are about creating a socially just world. If you get out of bed to transform the life chances of young people and want to shape and grow a values-driven social mobility charity, we would love to hear from you.
Thanks,
The CoachBright team
The Challenge
Social mobility in the UK is still far from a reality: disadvantaged pupils are less likely to attend university/ high level apprenticeships, occupy top jobs and improve their standard of living over their parents than their peers. The divide has become even clearer since Covid-19.
The gap between most advantaged and least advantaged pupils’ employment and higher education destinations remains vast - and this leads to real-life consequences. There is still much more to be done.
As an award-winning, fast-moving charity our mission is to support young people from disadvantaged communities to identify and fulfil their potential. Working in partnership with schools, universities, and employers, we deliver academic and pastoral coaching programmes that improve pupils’ confidence, resilience, and independence, as well as their attainment.
With a recently written three-year strategy, and a new Chief Executive, we’re at anexciting stage of development and have ambitious plans to continue improving our im- pact and reach. This academic year, we are planning on supporting over 2,000 pupils across our three regional teams: London, the South East and the West Midlands.

As a Programme Officer you will also recruit, train and manage volunteers (typically current undergraduates from universities in your region), deliver in-school and online workshops, and contribute to the overall development of the region.
You will be delivering programmes in schools and with volunteers can be challenging, with every day looking a little different from the last. But it is ultimately extremely rewarding! You will flourish in this role if you enjoy thinking quickly, responding to challenges, and using your own initiative to get great outcomes for young people.
One of our core values at CoachBright is that ‘we believe coaching is transformative’. A coaching approach underpins everything we do from our programmes to the way we work with each other. As a result, every team member undertakes training to become an accredited coach, and becomes part of our Lifecycle coaching team, where we provide direct, 1:1 coaching to current university students and junior employees of our corporate partners. This is an exciting opportunity for a talented fundraiser to make a tangible difference to London’s landscape and its people.
Heritage of London Trust restores the buildings and monuments that tell the story of the city and the people who live within it. Founded over 40 years ago, our mission was to rescue characterful and neglected historic sites all across the city. We focus on sites at risk in areas of least investment - in local communities that most need our help - ensuring a sustainable future for every project we work on. To date, we have restored nearly 800 sites across London.
In 2020 we launched our ground-breaking Proud Places youth programme to inspire and engage young people with the world around them, helping them develop knowledge and skills now and for the future. We work with mainstream schools across London and are the only UK heritage organisation to specialise in working with excluded pupils, young people at risk of gang exploitation and young refugees. To date we have worked with 6,000 young people and the programme continues to expand.
As our programme work has grown, so has our team and investment into our fundraising capability. We are now looking for a dedicated fundraiser who will help us build on our relationship based fundraising activity to grow our income. We are looking for a Head of Philanthropy who shares our ambition and drive and is excited to work closely with a dedicated and collaborative team while enjoying autonomy to build on our great work to date. Based in a vibrant newly developed impact-hub for charities who work with young people, this role will work in partnership with senior peers in communications and programmes, alongside a fundraising assistant and the Chief Executive, who herself was a professional fundraiser.
The role would be suited to an experienced relationship fundraiser looking to step up or into a role with exciting growth opportunities, or could suit an experienced relationship based sales or communication professional looking to pivot their career and make a positive social impact. About Westway Trust:
The Westway Trust is a unique charity that stewards the resources of 23 acres of space under the Westway A40. In 2019, a local community campaign ensured that the Board of the Trust is led by local people and the Westway Trust now works together with the local community to enable North Kensington to thrive.
In 2021 a new plan was created for the organisation. This plan set a new vision, mission and values and the Trust now has a clear transformation programme to achieve social, environmental, and economic wellbeing and justice. Our leadership team is testament to our values as we strive for excellence and to deliver our ambition, we work with a full range of stakeholders including around 80 Member Organisations.
The estate is home to more than three acres of public green space, 120 tenants including more than 20 charities and non-profit organisations, two sports and fitness facilities, 48 light industrial units, 4 car parks, 34 offices, 32 shops, and an Olympic-registered skate park.
We already receive more than one million visitors each year to the estate, and we want to expand the community, cultural, retail, sporting, and enterprise opportunities here together with improvements to the public realm so that it is a place the tenants and community is proud of, and even more visitors can enjoy.
We exist to work together with the local community to enable North Kensington to thrive.

- Work effectively with other Gatsby programme teams to ensure higher technical education is appropriately represented within their areas of focus.
- Commission consultants/researchers to undertake pieces of work that will inform programme direction.
- Undertake project evaluations to measure success, analysing outputs/feedback and making informed recommendations to improve activity.
- Manage the National Network of Institutes of Technology website and LinkedIn pages, ensuring they remain a compelling national presence with engaging and relevant content.
- Provide administrative and budget support for beneficiary grants and contracts.
- Create and maintain data and contact information relevant to the Institutes of Technology and other key stakeholders in higher technical education.
- Maintain a secure understanding of all high-level Gatsby policy positions and able to communicate them effectively in written form and verbally.
About You:
