There are hundreds of thousands of members of the fire services community across the UK. Fire and rescue services don’t just fight flames, they rescue and respond to everything from floods, major disasters and terrorist incidents to road traffic collisions. Those who serve in fire and rescue services, face distinct and lasting health and wellbeing demands arising from their roles.
For more than 80 years, Fire Fighters Charity has stood side by side with the UK fire and rescue services community, there for them with the tailored and timely care and support they need to manage the impacts of service on they and their families - physically, emotionally and socially.
Our care and support is confidential, free, and without judgement – always. We are there when it matters most, whether in person in one of our three centres, online or by telephone, as a charitable healthcare provider. We give people in the ‘fire family’ access to the independent and tailored health care and wellbeing support they need – both during and after service.
We are recruiting new trustees to join our Board and we invite applications from those who are experienced in operating at a senior strategic leadership level within an organisation, have solid strategic and financial skills and relationship and influencing skills.
Specifically, we are looking for candidates who will ideally have background and skills in Fundraising, including for example with a substantial background as a senior charity fundraiser with a sound understanding and experience of voluntary income generation at both strategic and operational levels and/or knowledge and experience of brand development and/or digital audience engagement
We are increasingly becoming a group of individuals who reflect and understand the diverse communities we serve, and we value the creativity, contribution, and value that different perspectives and experience add to any organisation. As a small but passionate UK-based charity, we are seeking a Trustee with a background in fundraising to help us build sustainable income streams. Kent Community Foundation (KCF) is looking for individuals to join our Board of Trustees who have a real passion for our county and want to make a demonstrable difference to the lives of people in our communities.
KCF is a professional grant-maker and local philanthropy advisor for Kent and Medway. We have been established for 24 years; distributing more than £60 million in grants to voluntary sector organisations across the county; supporting small charities to be sustainable and successful, and helping major donors maximise the impact of their donations.

We are an Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation that has been running successfully for 23 years. Each year, we deliver 15 events in venues ranging from iconic theatres such as The Old Vic in London to community spaces and smaller scale theatres such as the New Wolsey in Ipswich, plus a programme of 60 creative workshops in primary schools. We target areas of high socio-economic deprivation, support environmental sustainability through our programme, and partner with local authorities, libraries and education providers. The Role:
Trustees share oversight of The Children’s Bookshow’s artistic programming, operations, fundraising and finances, to ensure good governance in compliance with our governing document and with UK charity and company law.
Time commitment: around 4-6 days per year.
Trustee:
We are looking for a dedicated individual who has enthusiasm for our work as well as experience in fundraising and development in the UK charity sector, to advise on and support our longer-term strategic fundraising plans and assets (such as proposals and case studies).
A background in children’s literature, publishing or theatre would be an advantage, but not essential.
The Children’s Bookshow is committed to creating a collaborative Board of Trustees that is inclusive and representative of our society. We actively encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds and from all sections of society to apply.
Meetings:
There are typically four Board meetings a year lasting around an hour. Three of these meetings take place online and we endeavour to meet in person once a year in central London for a meeting followed by lunch. We also have a Finance and Operations Committee that occasionally meets online and reports to the Board, which Trustees are invited to opt into to share their expertise in specific areas such as Finance, Fundraising and Development.

Brighton and Hove Independent Mediation Service (BHIMS) is a charity that has been working to reduce conflict in the local community for over 30 years.  Our core services cover community mediation and conflict coaching in Brighton & Hove, and Lewes areas, while also providing workplace mediation and training services.  Operationally, we are run by a small team of paid staff, and our core work is delivered by 50+ volunteer mediators.

The Role:
We are currently seeking a Finance Trustee to join our Board as Treasurer. Treasurer Role:
The primary role is to ensure alongside other Trustees that they accept ultimate responsibility for the affairs of G&C and ensure that it is solvent, well run, and delivering the charitable outcomes for which it has been set up. As well as fulfilling the duties of a Trustee, the Treasurer ensures that effective and appropriate financial measures, controls, and procedures are put in place and reports to the Board at regular intervals about the financial health of the organisation.
- Overseeing the presentation of budgets, internal management accounts, and annual financial statements, as produced by the finance team or others where appropriate, to the Board of Trustees
- Ensuring that proper accounting records are kept, and that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place.
- Liaising with any paid staff about financial matters, as appropriate.
- Ensuring that robust and comprehensive financial policies are in place and being implemented, and supporting the development of policies covering financial reserves, and cost management.
- Overseeing financial controls and adherence to systems.
- Drawing any major financial concerns to the attention of the trustee and the management team.
- Ensuring that the charity has appropriate reserves in line with its reserves policy, and monitoring and advising on the financial viability of the charity.
- Advising on the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plan, including overseeing the charity’s financial risk-management process.
- Ensuring that the charity has an appropriate investment policy and that investments and assets are maximised.
- Leading on the appointment of and liaison with external auditors.
- Overseeing the development and implementation of systems for appraising, mitigating, and reporting corporate risk.
- Ensuring that the accounts are prepared and disclosed in the form required by relevant statutory bodies – for example, the Charity Commission and/or the Registrar of Companies.

The Person We’re Looking For:
- A finance professional with a firm understanding of charity finance and some experience of fundraising and pension schemes.
- Knowledge of charity fundraising, bid writing, and/or other income generation and/or securing funding through creation or leveraging of partnerships and networks (at a national or local level).
- A strategic thinker with an ability to balance risk and opportunity and the skills to analyse proposals and examine their financial consequences.
- Clear communicator with the ability to explain financial information to members of the Board and other stakeholders.
- Willing to play an active role in areas such as forecasting, setting budgets, and liaising with auditors.
In addition, the Treasurer will also have the responsibilities and qualities of all Trustees.
Responsibilities of All Trustees:
- Demonstrating a commitment to G&C’s objectives
- Contributing to setting the strategic goals and monitoring performance by active participation in Board discussions and decision-making
- Actively assisting the charity to build their connections and partnerships for the purposes of most effectively delivering their goals and fundraising
- Ensuring that G&C complies with its governing documents, the law, and all other relevant documentation

- Assisting the Chair to appoint and appraise the performance of the Senior Leadership Team members

Immigration is one of the key debates within UK politics and the media. IMIX is working to ensure that debate includes the voices of migrants and those who support them.
Our vision is for a society that welcomes people who move to the UK and understands the different journeys—through migration or displacement—that bring them here. A society that recognises how overlapping injustices shape those journeys, and where everyone can belong, be treated fairly, and live well together.
Our mission is to use our media and communications expertise to ensure the voices and stories of migrants and refugees help shape how migration is understood and discussed in the UK.
We do this by working with people who have lived experience of the immigration system, the organisations that support them, and the journalists who shape public opinion—always recognising the inequalities and barriers that affect whose voices are heard.
We have a new strategy to 2030, which sets out the role that we play in the migration sector, and our ambitions for the years ahead. These are to:

	ensure that more people with lived experience of migration have the skills and confidence to communicate effectively in the media. 
- 
	ensure that more organisations working to support migrants and refugees develop their media communication skills and capacity to tell the human story of migration.

The Duties of a Trustee
Trustees have overall control of a charity and are responsible for making sure it’s doing what it was set up to do, keeping the organisation on track and running effectively.
The IMIX Board meets four times a year to discuss with the Chief Executive and the team a wide range of issues. Our shared duties are to:
Strategy
- 
	Support the implementation of IMIX’s vision, mission, values and strategy. 
- 
	Approve activities that deliver the strategic goals, along with operational policies, and monitor and evaluate their implementation.

	Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively. 
Finance and Resources
- 
	Ensure the strategy is resourced by overseeing IMIX’s financial plans and budgets.

	Support and participate in fundraising and income generation activities 
- 
	Review and approve IMIX’s annual financial statements. 
IMIX Team
- 
	Provide support and challenge to IMIX’s Chief Executive

What we’re looking for
We are looking for people to join our Board who have either or both of the following:
Lived experience of migration or asylum
More than half of our Board of Trustees have lived experience of migration, ranging from arriving as a refugee, growing up in the UK without settled status, moving to the UK from Europe, or being British but born outside of the UK.
It is important to us that people with lived experience are leading the governance of the organisation, as well as being involved across our projects, through Advisory Groups and Ambassador programmes. We recognise that diverse perspectives strengthen governance and decision-making, and we seek to continue broadening the range of backgrounds and experiences represented on our board.
Professional skills
We’re particularly looking for experience in one or more of the following areas:
- 
	Media and Journalism 
- 
	Digital 
- 
	Fundraising and/or income generation 
- 
	Legal and financial oversight for charities 
- 
	Public sector/local authority experience, in particular regional links beyond London

What’s the commitment?
The Trustee term is three years, with an option to renew for a second term.
We have quarterly board meetings which take place online, with at one in person away day each year in London. We also have two sub-committees, one on People and HR, and the other on Finances and Funding, which meet in the month before a Board meeting.
How will we support you?
We’ll provide a full induction to the work of IMIX, and opportunities for you to understand what we do and how.
The Chair and Chief Executive will support you to settle in, and there is an annual one-to-one with the Chair for you to reflect on your learning and your experience of being on the Board.
We can also provide training and opportunities for you to develop your governance skills and particularly welcome people who may be new to governance roles.

Iprovision is the benevolent fund of The Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR). Iprovision is currently looking for new volunteers to join its Board of Trustees.
You don’t need to be a member of the CIPR to become a Trustee of Iprovision, but you do need to be willing to donate your time – and your understanding of the challenges life can throw at us – to consider the plight of those less fortunate.
The role Iprovision plays in helping members in need is really important. For example, Iprovision provides the funding for the CIPR’s mental health hotline that gives members access to expert advice and online materials. CIPR members coping with stress, with job loss, family illnesses or other challenges can turn to Iprovision for expert advice, counselling and, in many cases, financial support. To mark CIPR’s 75th anniversary we also established an education fund to help people get into the PR profession. We plan to continue with this fund in future years.
As a registered charity, Iprovision is led by its small board of up to 12 volunteer Trustees who consider the applications from CIPR members for support. Based on advice from a professional Support worker – the Trustees make the final decision on the type and level of support to be provided. This might be a straight cash grant, or the Trustees might elect to pay for some training and coaching to help someone get back into employment.
Each applicant for support is presented to the Trustees anonymously, and decisions are taken purely on the facts presented, the situation being experienced, and the types of support that are available.
As a charity, Iprovision depends for its funding purely on the voluntary annual donations that some members pay on top of their CIPR subscriptions, and fundraising activity and events.
The Trustees have a vital role to play – driving awareness of the fund, arranging and supporting fundraising activity, and of course considering applications for support. The Trustees meet four times a year (mix of in person and hybrid meetings) and are responsible for ensuring that the charity manages its funds wisely.
Knowledge, experience and attributes
Charitable Trustees have a general obligation to:
- Act in the charity’s best interests
- Manage the charity’s resources responsibly
- Act with reasonable care and skill.
Trustees should understand the purpose and activities of the charity and ensure they are in line and complying with the governance documents (the Memorandum and Articles of Association).
We are particularly keen to hear from people with experience or knowledge of:
- Fundraising
- Governance and charity law
- Accountancy and financial planning
Support & Training
We will provide opportunities for you to learn new skills and grow your expertise as we develop our plans. We encourage a culture of learning amongst our trustees, encourage and support them to develop existing skills, which help you flourish as a trustee on our board.
Benefits
This is a volunteer role so no material rewards are offered. Benefits are non-material and include experience, the opportunity to contribute, to learn and become part of a dynamic community. You will gain lasting relationships, insight into a benevolent fund, experience of non-executive leadership and the rewards of contribution. We will reimburse out of pocket expenses, including travel to attend any Iprovision meetings.
Liability
Iprovision is a separate legal entity (it is incorporated) and this acts as a mitigation to any personal liability.

Trustees are elected to serve terms of three years with an expectation that they will serve no more than 2-3 terms of three years.
