Deputy Head of Youth Work

The Deputy Head of Youth Work (Targeted & Partnerships) is a crucial role sitting within the Youth Zone Delivery Team. Reporting to the Head of Youth Work, you will be responsible for closely supporting the co-ordination, planning and delivery of an exceptional seven day per week youth offer within a state-of-the-art multi-million-pound centre.

About the Role

Through line management of your team and in collaboration with partners, you will ensure that the Youth Zone is accessed by all young people who need it the most. You will oversee community engagement outreach as part of the delivery ensuring the organisation continues to have a strong reputation and there remains a good awareness of the offer.

You will also be accountable for ensuring strong evidence of effective performance in line with vision, mission, values, and strategic objectives and that the team are afforded continuing professional development opportunities. You will need to be a big voice within a large team, owning and demonstrating a strong ethos, commitment, and dedication to improving the lives of children and young people and uniting them to fulfil their full potential. You will be confident in your abilities and able to deputise effectively for our Head of Youth Work as and when required. You will also be a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Officer.

Key responsibilities include:

• Line management of Female Engagement, Employability, Inclusion Coordinator and Outreach

• Monitoring, evaluation and reporting of all sessions including restricted-funding projects 

• Ensure the quality of the youth work offer across all direct report areas meet the standards of the organisation 

• Develop and maintain relationships and partnerships

• Manage one off projects, events and promotional activities 

• Identify suitable restricted-funding projects 

• Support, and in some cases manage, targeted projects as and when they come up, including budget management, and ensuring full monitoring and evaluation compliance

• Ensure that overall programme participation targets are consistently met

• Oversee budget lines of direct reports

• Work with the Head of Youth Work to prepare rotas 

• Working alongside the Head of Youth Work to ensure programmes are structured effectively and safely

• Lead sessions when required (usually this will be to cover annual leave or other staff absence)

• Produce the required reporting for Trustee and Board Sub-Committee meetings

The Action on Disability Employment Service is setting the agenda for disability employment across London with great results. We provide management, job coaching and employer engagement for over 50 young people with learning disabilities each year across our 6 internship sites.

We are looking to recruit a number of job coaches to support interns and graduates of these programs in their jobs.

Background

Action on Disability is the supported employment service partner on a number of supported internships for young people with learning disabilities around West and South London. They are looking to recruit a number of job coaches to support interns and graduates of these programs in their jobs.

The Post

The purpose of the job is to provide coaching, support and guidance to young people with learning disabilities (17+) within their workplaces. You will support interns/graduates to become independent in their roles and provide the necessary coaching, training and encouragement to enable them to succeed. You will work closely with the employer to ensure they are supported and can confidently manage and train their intern/employee once your support has been withdrawn.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• To carry out a detailed job analysis of potential jobs / work placements
• To carry out detailed job matching of service users and jobs
• To comprehensively learn jobs across different sectors – not restricted to but potentially including – Catering, Customer Service, Administration, IT and Retail
• To implement training/coaching plans which will enable the candidates to fulfil their roles to employer standards
• To conduct regular reviews to ensure candidates are progressing within their roles and to identify and meet new support needs
• To build up natural support within employers and taper off one 1:1 job coaching over time
• To negotiate and implement disability-related reasonable adjustments on an individual basis

 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 Office Management:

• Oversee daily office operations and maintain a professional, welcoming environment.
• Act as the primary point of contact for office-related vendors (cleaning, supplies, security, etc.).

Key Responsibilities

1. User Engagement and Relationship Management

• Develop and implement strategies to enhance engagement with our users across projects, events, and online platforms, ensuring their voices are integral to our work.

• Work with the Engagement Officer to design and coordinate events, workshops, and other engagement activities, both in-person and online, that support community connection and provide valuable resources to users.

• Gather and analyse feedback from users to ensure our services, content, and campaigns remain relevant and responsive to their needs.

 2. Content Creation and Communications

• Develop and implement a communication strategy for the organisation to set our key messages, approach and KPIs for engaging with individual, community and professional audiences as well as for internal communications.

• Oversee and produce high-quality content for digital platforms, newsletters, reports, and publications that engage and inform our audience.

• Collaborate with the Campaigns and Advocacy Officer to formulate and promote evidence-based policy positions, engaging key stakeholders in government, healthcare, and related sectors.

• Support the Campaigns and Advocacy Officer to expand the Pathfinders advocacy service and drive referrals to the service.

• Represent the organisation at events, sector meetings, and forums to build our profile and increase our influence on policy issues relevant to our community.

 4. Team Leadership and Development

• Manage, support, and foster the professional growth of the Engagement Officer, Social Media Officer, and Campaigns and Advocacy Officer, building a collaborative and empowered team.

• Set team objectives and KPIs, monitor progress, and provide regular feedback to ensure alignment with organisational goals and impact.

5. Stakeholder Engagement and Partnership Development

• Cultivate relationships with relevant stakeholders, including influencers, partner organisations, funders, policymakers, and the neuromuscular community.

  6. Organisational management

• Support the CEO with the overall running of the organisation by attending meetings of the management committee as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, taking on additional tasks as agreed.

• Provide contingency support to the  Senior Leadership Team to cover essential tasks such as reporting hours to our payroll team in the event of staff absence.

• Maintain an overview of projects and teams across the organisation to provide short-term management and HR support in the event of staff shortages or incapacity.

• Support the development of funding bids and project plans for introducing new projects.

• Represent the Senior Leadership Team at external events and in meetings with Trustees and Members.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, public policy, engagement, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

• 3-years experience in a communications, policy, or engagement role, ideally within a charity or non-profit setting.

• Experience engaging directly with user communities and developing outreach initiatives.

• Strong writing and editing skills with experience producing content for a variety of platforms including Youtube.

• Knowledge of or strong interest in the healthcare, disability, or neuromuscular sector is desirable.

We are looking for someone to provide strategic and thought leadership to income generation.  Someone who can work collaboratively across the organisation to lead and drive forward our ambition for income generation.

You will act as the leading authority on matters relating to income generation, providing advice across the organisation including to the Executive Group and Trustees.

You will enable the delivery of related transformation programmes that increase and diversify income. And have strategic ownership of the income generation programme, including income-related activities and KPIs within the engagement calendar, and customer experience and journeys relating to financial supporters

You will lead on income generation functions planning and budget setting contributing to the overall business planning process for the Income and Engagement Directorate

Strategy and Leadership

Budgeting, Reporting and Compliance

• To feed into organisational strategic KPIs and team KPIs, and ensure a regular schedule of reporting, and insight gathering is in place to monitor activity and use insight to guide decision-making and drive growth. 

People and culture

• To create a high performing team that is ambitious and passionate about the Mary’s Meals vision.
• To ensure teams receive consistent and motivating direction and feedback to enable them to work to the best of their ability.
• Build strong working relationships with colleagues across the charity at all levels, adopting and encouraging a collaborative working approach across the Mary’s Meals family. This role must work particularly closely with the Director of Communications, and collaboration with this role will be key.

About you:

About LMK

Good relationships shape our health and happiness, yet we are taught so little about them. LMK is a registered education charity on a mission to change that. We run workshops educating young people about healthy and unhealthy behaviours, so that they can avoid abuse and thrive in relationships. 

Using film and guided discussions, our workshop Leaders support children and young people in honest conversations about relationships and leave them better equipped to spot the early warning signs of abuse, inspiring them to enjoy healthy, fulfilling relationships.  We explore the 10 signs of healthy and unhealthy relationships and include practical lessons young people want to learn about (like consent) and practice scenarios in a safe, supportive and non-judgmental environment.

LMK Leaders are passionate and organised educators who run community workshops, aimed at young people aged between 11 and 24. Expectations of LMK Leaders

• Always adhere to LMK and host organisations health & safety and safeguarding practices and procedures. 
• Capable of maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries with young people, peers, and professionals.
• Respond to comms (emails/WhatsApp) sent out by LMK team members in a timely manner, to support planning and organising of sessions.
• Plan and deliver interactive LMK workshops in educational and community settings in line with LMK delivery style and ethos. 
• Meet with co-facilitators to carry out pre-session planning, minimum three working days before delivery.
• Use your experience and knowledge of the issues affecting young people to tailor the workshops accordingly. 
• Ensure all youth participants and the adults in school/community organisations who attend a LMK workshop complete the post session feedback surveys.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience required

• Experience or co-designing session plans and co-facilitating with others; able to collaborate equally with others.
• A strong commitment to young people and knowledge and understanding of issues affecting their relationships.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal skills with the ability to create a safe and non-judgmental space, that allows young people to speak freely about their relationships and experience.
• Able to adapt and be flexible in workshops to get the best engagement from a range of participants.
