THE DETAILS
Feeling Strong is an exciting Dundee-based charity with the ambition to improve the lives of young people living with mental health and wellbeing challenges by fostering the skills, confidence and aspirations they need to flourish. Our services are designed by young people, delivered by young people for the benefit of young people, and we believe that this youth-led/peer-led approach is our biggest asset in tackling issues around mental health and wellbeing. We support stable recovery journeys for young people, lead campaigns to tackle societal issues, develop quality resources based on our own research, and tackle the disparity they face in unemployment, underemployment and accessing opportunities like further and higher education.
YOUR COMMITMENT
Whilst the Trustee Board meets for formal meetings 6 times a year, successful candidates will be expected to contribute to the organisation more widely, taking part in fundraisers, external events, strategic planning and advising the staff team when needed. The average contribution expected of Trustees is around one - two hours per month.
Work-related travel costs will be reimbursed.

Do you want to support the running of the charity that supports people in Berkshire’s hospitals?
Are you the person to develop and lead our business opportunities planning, alongside our existing trustees?
You could join the Board of the Friends of Berkshire Hospitals, a charity that improves the experience of patients, visitors, medical staff and others who work in the Royal Berkshire and Wokingham Hospitals.
Our charity grew from a Reading-only organisation set up in 1957, which itself grew from a charitable group in the 1940s. We’re now serving both Reading and Wokingham hospitals, and intend to expand our services and thus our charitable business even further: to better serve all those in the hospitals. Our expenditure in 2024 was £366k, and we have plans to expand our business and fundraising operations outside of hospital premises.
The role and what we are looking for in a new trustee
Trustees are the people who make the top-level decisions for our charity. Our Board includes people with experience and skills in the services we provide to those in hospitals, and we’d expect new trustees to have empathy with our cause and our beneficiaries.
We are looking for experience of developing a business, not necessarily in the not-for-private-profit sector, identifying new opportunities and relationships, creating and implementing our new marketing strategy.
We are a charity not a business, but we apply business principles to governing our organisation. We are looking for people from a variety of backgrounds to join our charity. We want to expand the diversity of our board, in all meanings of the word, and strongly welcome applications from people from less-represented groups.
You don’t necessarily need prior experience of charity trusteeship, as full induction to our organisation will be provided, plus specialist support as a new trustee, including access to external training.
If you can think strategically and plan long-term, you have the primary skills needed by our trustees; you’ll also need to be able to work collectively with other Board members.
Trustees are not be expected to get involved in the organisation’s operations on a day-to-day basis; however, regular contact and liaison with other trustees and employees is expected.
We ask for no more than ten hours of your time per month, which includes all meetings, discussions, etc. You will need access to digital communications, as much of our charity’s business is run that way.

In addition to a charity Trustee’s statutory duties, the Finance Trustee (or Treasurer) plays a vital role in overseeing the financial affairs of the charity, ensuring its financial viability during a potential growth period, and making sure that proper financial records and procedures are maintained. The Treasurer provides strategic financial guidance to the board and ensures compliance with relevant financial legislation and best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Financial Oversight and Reporting:

PERSON SPECIFICATION:
Qualifications:
- A recognised financial qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA) is desirable.
Experience:
- Proven experience in financial management, preferably within the charity sector.
- Experience of charity finance, fundraising, and pension schemes is advantageous.
- Experience in strategic planning and risk management.
Skills and Knowledge:

TIME COMMITMENT
- Standard terms of Board Trustees are a period of three (3) years. Board members can usually be re-elected for a period of another three (3) years thereafter, for one (1) further term
- ADHD Aware Board Trustees will regularly attend Board meetings and/or send apologies with sufficient warning (no less than two days ahead of meeting)
- All Board members are also expected to respond within two (2) weeks to a request for review of information and comment by any other member of the Board
- If a Board member misses more than three (3) consecutive meetings, it may be appropriate to ask that Board member to resign or take a leave of absence
- Trustees will provide a minimum three (3) month notice period if they choose to step down LOCATION Please note: this role can be carried out largely remotely (via Teams or Zoom). Very occasionally, the Board may gather or take meetings at its main headquarters location in Brighton, East Sussex.

Our work is driven by belief in young people’s potential, we focus on removing barriers to education and opportunity, as we aim to level the playing field and help all young people, particularly those from underserved communities to see that they belong in the world of STEM.
We are looking for trustees, with knowledge of housing regulation, legal expertise or with experience in property acquisition and development to support us with a significant strategic project to explore incorporating an SPV and becoming a Registered Provider of Social Housing.
What will you be doing?
Emmaus UK is currently undertaking feasibility work to consider the incorporation of an SPV which can become a Registered Provider of Social Housing on behalf of the Emmaus federation in the UK. This is an exciting prospect and would unlock significant potential to achieve our strategic objective to help more people.
Joining the EUK Board at such a significant moment will enable you to play a key role in the future of Emmaus. You will be an integral part of developing the movement and central to making strategic decisions within EUK as the national body.
Emmaus UK is governed by the Emmaus UK Board, currently comprised of nine trustees, the majority of whom are elected by federation members. Primarily, you would become one of these trustees.
Our committee structure combines EUK facing committees to ensure the board have the correct oversight of internal functions with federation facing committees to provide the board with the views of members and beneficiaries across the movement. A new committee is currently in development to overseeing the Registered Provider project which you would also sit on as part of this appointment.
Our governance structure has gone through a period of significant review and transformation and is now in a strong position to serve Emmaus for the future. This is a particularly exciting time to join as a trustee as we begin to develop our next strategy for 2027 onwards and make key decisions around the model of Emmaus in the UK.
What are we looking for?
To ensure that we are in the best position to pursue our next strategic chapter, we are looking to build the expertise of the Emmaus UK Board in:
- Housing Association/Housing Expertise or relevant
regulatory expertise - providing strategic input as we develop the subsidiary and proceed with becoming a Registered Provider - Legal expertise - ideally in a relevant field e.g. charity or corporate governance, housing, property, regulation etc
- Property Acquisition and Development - to support us with providing high quality services and managing sustainable growth
We are looking for individuals who can support our existing trustees through this transition period with their specialist knowledge and provide guidance to our staff team as we undertake such a significant project. Someone knowledgeable and engaging would be ideal for this role.

Release Counselling and Therapy for Women (Release) is a small charity in Sussex with a big impact and have been supporting the mental health of thousands of women, since 2013. We specialise in supporting the mental health of women at key moments in their lives from parenting to peri/menopause.
Founded in 2013, our charity is led by women, for women. Women are at the highest risk of suicide up to a year after giving birth and during perimenopause. And we provide mental health support for women at these key times in their lives.
We offer therapeutic groups for mums and birthing parents and women in midlife, along with wellbeing days and a women’s one-to-one online counselling service.
As a small evolving charity, we work closely as a team and there are opportunities to help shape our future.
To help our mission, we are looking to appoint a Trustee with experience in clinical work such as counselling or social work to oversee the safeguarding of our charity.

Responsibilities
The Board and CEO meet quarterly for Board meetings and once for an annual strategy day in Brighton.
The safeguarding trustee works closely with the CEO, the designated safeguarding lead, to ensure our organisation’s strategic plans reflect safeguarding legislation, regulations specific to our activities, statutory guidance, and the safeguarding expectations of the Charities Commission.
The role will help champion a safeguarding culture across the organisation, ensuring there are regular reviews, training, and that policies and the risk register are up to date, alongside advising on any safeguarding concerns that arise.
There are also other opportunities to get involved with fundraising events, speaking at conferences, and each Trustee takes on a committee lead role, in their area of expertise, taking an oversight of that area.

Person Specification
Essential
· Qualified clinical practitioner such as counsellor, psychologist or social worker accredited by a recognised body such as BACP, UKCP, BABCP, BPS or HCPC
· Current DBS check or willing to have one carried out
· Experience in overseeing and leading safeguarding procedures within an organisation
· Experience working with female clients with a range of issues
· Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship
· Good communication and leadership skills
· A team-oriented approach to problem solving and to management.
Desirable
· Dedicated to the organisation’s cause and objectives and willing to act as the charity’s ambassador to external bodies, charities and companies.
