The Charity
The Youth Adventure Trust is a youth development charity working with vulnerable young people aged 11 to 16 years old from Wiltshire and Swindon. Our outdoor activity based YAT Adventure Programme enables young people to challenge themselves, experience success, learn to go beyond their own expectations and grow in confidence. Through a series of residential camps and day activities they are able to build resilience, self esteem and develop social and life skills. The YAT Resilience Programme works to the same outcomes through a year long programme of monthly activities, home-based challenges and reflective practice. Our Mentoring Programme works with those young people in need of some additional individualised support at the end of our other programmes. The Trust’s Bursary Programme is open to all those young people who have completed an initial programme, in order to assist their next steps into further activities. Our aim is to make a lasting improvement to the lives of vulnerable young people. All our services are provided completely free of charge to the young people who are nominated by schools and other youth organisations to take part.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced, dynamic and motivated Programme Manager to deliver, manage and support our YAT Adventure Programme.
Responsibilities will include:
-
Acting as the key point of contact to organise, deliver and oversee the Adventure Programme to a group of young people, including managing and supporting residential adventure camps and activity days throughout the year.
-
Recruiting young people to the programme, working in collaboration with our referral partners including schools and other organisations, ensuring all involved have an excellent understanding, relationship and experience with the Youth Adventure Trust.
-
Working in partnership with the young people’s families to promote full attendance, effective participation and ensure they have all the information they require.
-
Carrying out direct work with young people to help support their needs and fulfil the Youth Adventure Trust’s aims.
-
Providing ongoing feedback to young people, parents, carers and schools.
-
Supporting the effective monitoring of the programme and measurement of young people’s developmental outcomes.
-
Working with the Mentoring Managers to select and support young people moving on to the Mentoring Programme, and promote take up of the Bursary Programme.
-
Ensuring the highest standards of support, safety and safeguarding across the programme and all aspects of the Youth Adventure Trust’s work.
-
Taking the lead with day-to-day administration and management of the programme. This will include maintaining a database, producing written communications and reports, information leaflets, website updates, budget monitoring, booking and negotiating with providers, and an array of detailed record keeping.
-
Contributing to organisational planning and development, including supporting the development of further opportunities for young people.

You are an experienced peacebuilder and manager of people and programmes, and have worked previously in Sudan. You have proven ability in designing and adapting programmes, keeping them relevant and accountable in complex local contexts, ideally in Darfur.
Concordis has worked in Sudan and South Sudan since we were formed as an organisation in 2004. The devastation caused by the current war is heart-breaking, but it also reminds us of the vital importance of peacebuilding.
Concordis continues to implement directly in South Darfur, with a team of eight national staff who remain in Darfur and three more working from outside the country. The team consulted over 3,500 people before the war began and identified a network of 103 local peacebuilders across South Darfur. We work alongside national partner Malam Darfur Peace and Development, and support local peacebuilders where conflict is fought and felt. You’ll take on leadership of the team 18 months into the current EU grant.
You also have a track record of engaging effectively and proactively with international donors, sharing analysis, communicating the vision and winning funds. You’ll use those skills as you adapt the current programme to meet entry points for peacebuilding, as you work with the team and local partners in designing the next steps, and as you work collaboratively with donors in keeping them on board.
Despite the evident challenges, we see opportunities and an urgent need to support local peacebuilders in managing South Darfur’s myriad local conflicts, to prevent them escalating or from becoming instrumentalised in the war. There are also emerging opportunities to expand on this programme elsewhere in Darfur, and with Darfuri herders displaced into South Sudan and beyond.
This will require visionary leadership and the skill and drive to navigate a way forward in the coming months and years. Concordis’ peacebuilding programme in South Darfur is primarily about promoting peaceful coexistence amongst and between pastoralist groups and the settled population. This mirrors our existing work over the border in Central African Republic, where we engage with some of the same pastoralists during the dry season, and complements our ongoing work along the border of Sudan and South Sudan, including in Abyei.
This work can demand a lot from all of us, and we have high expectations for the person in this post, but they’ll be part of a supportive team, leading an exciting programme, helping to make a measurable change for peace.
Please take care to complete the application form in full, as we’ll assess whether you meet the person specification based solely on the answers given in the application form.

If you have experience of delivering a successful peer support service or volunteer programme this is a genuinely exciting opportunity to develop a new service for an established patient support charity. Based remotely, but able to travel frequently in and around to London, we are seeking a creative, organised and committed programme manager.
Kidney Care will be working with the London Kidney Network and peer support champions from London NHS Trusts to establish a London-wide kidney peer support service. The ambition is to develop the service to cover the UK.
This is all about connecting people who are living with kidney failure, and applications from people with personal experience of the condition as a patient or carer are encouraged.
This is a new service for Kidney Care UK and the programme manager will be instrumental in scoping and implementing processes and procedures to deliver a compassionate, safe and valued service. The role will also ensure that all volunteers giving their time to Kidney Care UK have a fulfilling experience and will support colleagues across the organisation to confidently engage and support their own volunteers.
Safeguarding
Kidney Care UK is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and Adults at Risk and expect all staff and volunteers to actively support this commitment. An DBS check will be required for this role.
About Kidney Care UK
Around 3.5 million people in the UK live with chronic kidney disease (CKD). 68,000 are treated for end-stage kidney failure, relying on dialysis or a transplant to keep them alive. Treatments are gruelling and relentless and impact the patients’ ability to work, maintain social interaction and live the life they choose.
For over 45 years, Kidney Care UK has been at the forefront of supporting people with kidney disease. From our early days when we campaigned to introduce donor cards in the UK, we have worked hard to support and represent the interests of everyone affected by kidney disease.
Promoting better outcomes for people living with kidney disease we actively seek applications from people who live with CKD or who have experience as a family member or health professional.
About the Peer Support Service
The Peer Support Service connects people affected by CKD with a volunteer who shares a similar lived experience. Alongside partners in the London Kidney Network, we will recruit, train and support volunteers to provide a friendly listening ear and share practical information to build confidence in decision making, explore options and make informed choices about a range of issues from treatment to travel. Patients, their families and caregivers will access the service to request a conversation with someone matched on a range of factors which could include treatment modality, location, age and life experience.
This is a new service that the Peer Support manager will establish and shape, working effectively with stakeholders to build a trusted service that patients and healthcare professionals want to engage with. This is very much a hands-on role covering all aspects of delivering the service; creating resources and processes; recruiting, training and stewarding volunteers; promotion, and building relationships with NHS renal units to attract service users; and of course, matching individuals to encourage patients to feel empowered to make choices and manage their condition with confidence.

About YCDT
Established as a charity (no 1150197) in 2012, the Young Carers Development Trust our aim is to improve the life chances of young carers by giving them targeted and sustained mentoring support to raise and achieve their educational, personal and career aspirations.
To date, YCDT’s approach has been to work with local young carers’ services to identify young carers with real potential who are unlikely to succeed without targeted support. From 2024 we are launching our brand-new Lottery Community 2-year funded project across South West England so as such, we are seeking the right individual to take the trust forward to our next stage of growth.
This project will extend our work into schools who will be one of the main referral sources for the new mentoring project. Currently, we provide support for up to five years to each young carer but this new project will provide a shorter one-year programme, thus enabling more young carers to access support.
About this role
We are recruiting a Lead Mentoring Project Officer to launch and manage our high-quality 1-year Mentoring Programme that supports young carers aged 14-16 to achieve goals tailored to their needs. Each cohort will be delivered through a combination of 1:1 mentoring and monthly groups with a maximum of 8 mentees and 2 mentors. The programme aims to help the mentees improve their educational attainment, identify routes into further and/or higher education and apprenticeships, increase independence skills, build confidence, access appropriate services, reduce isolation and build resilience. You will work in partnership with the Mentoring Project Officer and under the supervision and guidance of YCDT’s Service Manager.
We are looking for an outstanding candidate who is passionate about supporting young carers to reach their full potential. We do not expect you to have direct experience of mentoring or working with young carers but we do expect you to have empathy, good listening skills and a strong knowledge of the needs and common challenges of young people aged 14-16 with a passion to make a real difference in their lives.
You will be responsible for building and maintaining strong partnerships with community organisations and to generate and maintain steady referrals to the programme. You will be required to assess young carers’ needs and in conjunction with the second Mentoring Project Officer, deliver one-to-one and group support to the mentees, carefully monitoring their progress. Further to this, you will be responsible for responding to safeguarding concerns and maintaining strong professional boundaries.
You will be required to evaluate the progress of individuals, keeping databases up to date and maintain accurate reporting. Due to the nature of the pilot programme, flexibility will be key to success.
You will be one of five members of staff working alongside a team of dedicated volunteers. Being part of a small team, you will get the opportunity to contribute ideas and help shape YCDT as we grow and are supporting more young carers than ever before.
We welcome and encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, particularly those with a lived experience of having caring responsibilities. If you think you have the skills and experience to be one of our new Mentoring Projects Officers, we would love to hear from you.
The job description as described will be reviewed on a regular basis to respond to any changing needs of the post.
