Role description:

We are seeking a technically excellent management accountant to play a central role in the finance team at this young and vibrant charity, preparing monthly management information to aid business decisions, and undertaking project work as requested.

Main Responsibilities:

Management Accounts preparation

• Account for accrued income and expenditure, including:

           - Accrued legacy income

           - Accrued trust income

          - Other accrued income

          - Accrued grant expenditure

          - Normal accruals and prepayments

• Reconcile all control accounts regularly
• Prepare and post journals as required
• Prepare monthly management accounts, including restricted and unrestricted reserves

Record keeping

• Contribute to the proper maintenance of book keeping records where necessary, to comply with statutory, financial and GDPR regulations
• Assist in gathering documentation for audit, ensuring necessary information is organised and available
• Assist in year-end statutory accounts preparation
• Ensure that all relevant finance processes and systems are adhered to

Other

• Liaise with fundraising team to assist in reconciliation of finance software to fundraising CRM software
• Produce ad-hoc reports as required
• Complete government and other surveys as required
• Represent the Charity in all dealings with internal and external stakeholders in a professional and efficient manner.
• Champion our code of behaviour and act as a role model, ensuring that our safeguarding and other key policies and procedures are adhered to at all times so as to protect the people we work with and our reputation.

Person Specification:

Knowledge and experience

• Qualified or part-qualified ACA, ACCA or CIMA
• Experience of management accounts preparation
• Experience of working with accounting software

• Demonstrable experience of accounting in a charitable organisation would be useful but not essential.

The grants operations and data manager is a newly created role, within Moorfields Eye Charity's grants and research team, to support, manage and develop grant funding operations. This is a really exciting time to join the team as this position will play a key role in the ongoing optimisation of the teams grants management system (Flexigrant, implemented 2024) and also the underpinning funding operations to support the delivery of our first grants strategy, due to be launched in early 2026.

We have ambitious plans. We have put into action a five-year business plan that is supporting our growth from raising and funding around £6 million annually to becoming a £10 million a year charity.

About the role

You will be joining a supportive grants and research team who are committed to ensuring the charity has robust grant making mechanisms to determine best use of charitable funding together with monitoring and evaluating projects and programmes. 

You will be involved in optimising the grants management system and funding processes, driving effective data collection and reporting, and corresponding work-flows. The role is highly collaborative, requiring you to develop professional working relationships with stakeholders at various levels. It will suit a candidate who is dynamic and ambitious, confident delivering change, and in taking initiative.

About you

You will have an established track record in grant-making, ideally in a health or medical research charity. You will have experience in the full life-cyle of grants management and the delivery of grant-making programmes, working with complex data and databases. You will also have a keen interest in improving operational processes and developing/analysing reports for data driven grant making activities and showcasing the impact of funding.

You will be an effective communicator, able to build confident working relationships at all levels. You will bring strong interpersonal skills along with the ability to work collaboratively and to influence, lead others in matrix style working.

As Finance Manager, you’ll be responsible for both the day-to-day financial operations and the wider financial strategy of the charity. The role

Barnardo's are seeking an experienced and passionate Challenge Events fundraiser to take up a fixed term contract as our Senior Challenge and Virtual Events Manager.  This is a full time position but we would consider part time candidates too.

You will lead the development and implementation of Barnardo's established Challenge Events programme, with a focus on growing our income and deepening our relationships with our supporters to build lifetime connections.

 Key responsibilities include: 

• Leading the development and delivery of Barnardo's Challenge Events programme to deliver and grow agreed income targets.

• Managing a team of Events Fundraising professionals and overseeing a budget with an income target of £1 million.   

• Collaborating across the Fundraising and Marketing team and across departments to integrate Challenge Events into our communications and supporter journeys.  

• Working closely with colleagues within our Relationship Fundraising team to deliver bespoke opportunities to add value to corporate partnerships.

• Managing relationships with internal teams, external agencies and event partners to deliver high-quality events, acquisition campaigns and supporter experiences.  

• Monitoring trends in the Challenge Events landscape and using data and insights to inform growth plans and innovation.  

• Champion Challenge Events across the charity, building awareness and engagement internally.  

We're looking for someone with: 

• Proven events experience working across a portfolio of third party and bespoke Challenge Events.  

• Strong strategic thinking and planning skills, with a track record of delivering and exceeding targets, and utilising KPIs to measure and improve effectiveness. 

• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build strong internal and external relationships to achieve mutual goals. 

• Experience managing budgets and working with external agencies and suppliers. 

• A collaborative and proactive approach to leadership and team development.  

• Passion for Barnardo's mission and a commitment to delivering exceptional supporter experiences.

Job Purpose

The Digital Transformation Lead will spearhead the implementation of the Cathedral’s Digital Strategy. Working closely with the Cathedral Leadership Team, Heads of Department, and wider stakeholders, this role will lead the integration of digital systems, improve data management, drive operational efficiency, and support audience engagement through technology. The postholder will ensure the Cathedral’s digital infrastructure aligns with strategic priorities, supports compliance (including the UK GDPR), and unlocks new opportunities for outreach, engagement, fundraising, and income generation.

Key Responsibilities

· Lead change management and actively support a culture of inclusion, ensuring that all members of the Cathedral community, regardless of age, background, digital literacy, or ability, can engage with and benefit from new systems and technologies.

· Create and implement change management plans including stakeholder engagement, communication strategies, training, and accessible support materials.

· Build trust and reduce resistance to change through transparent communication, sensitivity, and practical support.

· Lead the delivery of the Cathedral’s Digital Strategy in collaboration with senior leadership and departmental teams.

Person Specification

Essential

· Have the right to live and work in the UK

· Degree or equivalent experience in digital transformation, IT, business systems, or a related field

· Strong understanding of digital systems, data management, CRM platforms, and UK GDPR compliance

· Proven track record of leading digital transformation projects, including system integration, stakeholder engagement, and change management

· Experience managing complex projects, including budgeting, supplier coordination, and cross-functional collaboration

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and build positive working relationships with individuals at all levels of the organisation and externally

· Experience designing and delivering training and support materials for digital tools and workflows

· Ability to interpret data to inform decision-making, improve engagement, and identify efficiencies

Main Terms and Conditions

Employment status: Fixed Term for 2 years

Location: Wells Cathedral, 16 Market Place, Wells, Somerset, BA5 2RB

Hours of work: 35 working hours per week. Core hours are 9.00 a.m. – 5 p.m. (Monday to Friday) with an unpaid lunch break of 1 hour each day. Flexible working will be considered.

Remuneration: £50,000 per annum, payable on the 24th of the month or the nearest working day thereto.

Parking: Limited parking is available in the Cathedral car park. Cars are parked at the risk of the owner.
