As Unit Manager, you will be responsible for the overall management of your St John Ambulance Youth unit. You will do this by leading weekly meetings, organising other youth development activities and actively participating in the recruitment, training and retention of the young people and volunteers in your unit. You will ensure that they have a positive and rewarding experience in St John Ambulance, by equipping them with the necessary skills to fulfil our vision; ‘Everyone who needs it should receive first aid from those around them. No one should suffer for the lack of trained first aiders.’
This role is ideal for someone who has some management experience and wants to enhance their skills while doing invaluable work. This role is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitations Offenders Act.
This is an exciting opportunity for a new Group to open in Mulbarton. The group will meet on a Tuesday evening during term time, so please ensure you are available then.

Inpatient unit Volunteers provide support to the kitchen staff by delivering meals and snacks to patients, collecting used crockery from patient rooms and washing up all staff & patient crockery and cutlery. Volunteers in this role also provide a warm welcome to visitors when required. This allows catering staff to concentrate on food preparation, and nursing staff to concentrate on patient care.
Full training provided. An enhanced DBS check will be required for this role.

The Person
The right candidate will thrive in a student led, highly responsive environment and have an enthusiasm for supporting and guiding a student organisation. They will command confidence, have sound judgement and strong communication and leadership skills.
Finance Experience: to support our current strategic direction and bring new skills to the Board, the Board of Trustees is looking for a trustee who has the following financial experience.
- Preferably financial experience from a charity outside of the SU sector
- Understanding of financial oversight
- Ability to interpret financial information to support strategic decision-making
- Awareness of charity finance and regulatory requirements
Chairing Experience: The successful candidate would also be the Deputy Chair, and we are looking for the following experience:
- Ability to deputise for the Chair, and chair meetings of the Board
- Ability to build a strong and effective working relationship with the Board of Trustees Chair
- Ability to foster, maintain and ensure that constructive relationships exist with and between the Trustees
- Assist and support the Chair in providing leadership to the Board, through the governance arrangements, and also acting as a ‘sounding board’ and confidante to the Chair in the execution of their role
Due to the current make-up of our Trustee Board, we are not actively searching for candidates with skills, knowledge and experience related to the Student Union and HE sector and we would welcome candidates from other sectors or regions to apply. That said, we would very much like to encourage anyone who feels that they could bring something to our Board to apply, regardless of experience - our purpose and values also lead us to welcome first time Trustees too!

This is an exciting new volunteering role in the Peri team, supporting the daily operations of the internal training team and assisting with weekly tasks, mainly administrative.
SWA trains staff and volunteers in Domestic Abuse support, including frontline care, psychologically informed frameworks, advocacy, and working with complex needs SU. We expect volunteers to be proactive, bringing forth ideas to improve training processes, and handle various tasks independently. The team is open to suggestions for upskilling in relevant areas that are feasible for the volunteer and welcome them.
About the role
1. Assist with key administrative tasks to help keep training materials and resources organised and up to date with relevant information such as:
- Research
- Updating statistics
- Creating activities or resources for trainings
- Reviewing the accessibility of training (adding audio descriptions for example)
- Send out training invites and materials
- Shadow our trainers and learn the ins and outs of our different training processes.
- Encouraged to bring your own creative ideas to the table, helping us design engaging and interactive trainings and activities.
- Potential to co-facilitate trainings
Who are we looking for?
- Ideally confident and expert in IT – but will consider
- Someone who is comfortable with different software and tools and willing to learn
- Strong communication skills
- Good organisational skills
- Willing to be creative and do own research

Youth Leaders work directly with young people in St John Ambulance Badger Setts and Cadet Units. By organising a mixed weekly programme, this role will support the learning and development of young people into the next generation of health citizens.
