National Numeracy supports volunteers from our corporate partners to deliver sessions in primary schools
that inspire children to see the value of maths in the real world. The Programme enables volunteers to
directly support communities with low number confidence and skills, celebrating everyday maths, and
developing the building blocks of social mobility in areas of need.

The new Programmes Assistant will work with the Volunteering Manager and wider Programmes Team to
deliver this exciting Programme. The role will involve working with internal team members and external
partners to assist with delivery, including recruitment of volunteers and schools, training of volunteers,
resource delivery and preparation, feedback, data collection and associated admin. The Programmes
Assistant will be the first point of contact for volunteers, schools and partner organisations.

We are looking for someone who is flexible and able to respond to the fast-paced work around the busiest
periods of the year for the Programme. It’s not imperative that you come from the education or charity
sectors, or that you have held an equivalent role previously, as long as you can show us that you have
relevant transferable skills and an understanding of what it takes to be successful in this role.

National Numeracy is based in Falmer, just outside Brighton, but we are offering significant remote/hybrid
and flexible working with this role. The role may include occasional UK travel, to visit schools, partner
organisations, attend occasional Team Awaydays, and very occasionally to visit the office.

Main Purpose of Job

· To be responsible for the delivery of all aspects of our advice services via telephone, email/web, in person and at outreach venues.

· To line manage team leads, debt caseworkers and the energy adviser and support them in achieving high standards of accessible advice services.

· To oversee the use of our volunteer adviser resources to cover each of our advice channels in the most effective way.

· To liaise with the training lead to ensure we have sufficient, well trained volunteer advice resources to deliver our service.

· To ensure cover for Advice Session Supervisors when needed

· To provide training, guidance and support on client records, telephone channel and quality standards

· To design and implement improvements to our advice processes based on best practice, leading and gaining buy-in from team members as necessary.

Debt Advice giving

· Interview clients using sensitive listening and questioning skills in order to allow clients to explain their problem(s) and empower them to set their own priorities.

· Use appropriate resources to find, interpret and communicate the relevant information to clients.

· Research and explore options and implications so that clients can make informed decisions.

· Act for the client where necessary by calculating, negotiating, drafting or writing letters and telephoning.

· Negotiate with third parties such as statutory and non-statutory bodies as appropriate.

· Ensure that all work conforms to the organisation’s office manual and the Advice Quality standard / other funding requirements, as appropriate.

· Ensure that work reflects and supports the Citizens Advice service’s equality and diversity strategy.

· Maintain detailed case records for the purpose of continuity of casework, information retrieval, statistical monitoring and report preparation.

· Take ownership for monitoring own workload e.g. proactively reviewing progress on current cases, outcome of completed cases and quality control.

· Be a DRO approved intermediary.

Research and Campaigns

· To ensure the advice team contribute to the development of social policy in line with our business plan

· To assist with social policy work as required by the organisation

Management duties

· You will be accountable and responsible for delivering the service delivery related objectives and outcomes from the organisation’s Business Plan and service-related KPIs.

· Prepare and issue reports as required for the CEO, funders and partners, attending meetings as required to present findings and recommendations 

Learning and professional development  

· Keep up to date with legislation relevant to the role, trends, ideas and thinking

· Attend and actively participate in regular support and supervision sessions and appraisals with the Chief Executive Officer

· Identify own learning and development needs and plan to meet them.

Administration  

· Ensure that detailed records for the purposes of information retrieval, statistical monitoring and report preparation are maintained and developed

· Produce comprehensive, analytical and developmental oral and written reports on the work of the service as required.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

· Undertake advice work as required, including supporting contracts and projects outside of the generalist service.

· Support with the efficient and effective use of Casebook, gathering, storing and analysing data and contributing to the reporting processes for services, projects and contracts.

· Keep up to date with Citizens Advice aims, policies and procedures and ensure these are followed.

Working with other staff and volunteers, you will oversee the visitor experience to ensure a consistently high standard, delivering a wide-ranging programme of activities that will also attract a new and diverse audience to the Cathedral whilst maximising visitor donations and income.

Probationary and notice period

In accordance with current Chapter Policy, the post is subject to a 12 week probationary period. After completion of the probationary period the notice period is one month.

Pension

After 12 weeks’ service, the post-holder with be auto-enrolled into a pension scheme with the Church Workers Pension Fund.

The Cathedral Chapter is in the process of refeshing its Mission and Vision within a Strategic Development Plan (due to be published in early 2026), and as part of this the Cathedral’s fundraising priorities will be decided and a Fundraising Committee formed to oversee and direct the task of building sustainable income within a fundraising strategy. The Head of Fundraising will be responsible for drafting this strategy and enacting it once complete, and for all other aspects of fundraising at the Cathedral. With the assistance of a Fundraising Officer, the Head of Fundraising will be responsible for delivering the various Fundraising income streams.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Payroll Manager to ensure the accurate and timely processing of payroll, including inputting and reconciling timesheets, calculating holiday pay, and updating payroll records.
• Support year-end activities such as PSA and P11D calculations and submissions, ensuring full compliance with HMRC regulations and internal policies.
• Manage pension contributions and submissions, ensuring accurate data uploads to pension portals and compliance with scheme rules and statutory requirements.
• Administer statutory and occupational sick pay in line with current legislation and company policies, with a strong understanding of Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) rules and accurate processing of sickness absences.
• Maintain payroll data integrity through regular system updates, data cleansing, and the implementation of necessary adjustments to ensure accuracy.
• Deliver a high level of service by responding promptly and professionally to payroll-related queries from employees and stakeholders.
• Partner with the Payroll Manager and Finance team on ad hoc projects, reconciliations, and process improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.

At Cruse, we have recently launched our new strategy, setting out our charity’s plans to grow our income and build on our expertise and unique position in the sector. We provide expert bereavement and grief information and support, and our charity has been supporting people for over 65 years. We support adults, children and young people across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, through our national services, 84 local branches and online information about grief and bereavement.

You will lead the Community Fundraising and Individual Giving team to inspire support and donations from groups, organisations and individuals in local communities across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. You will oversee a range of activity across the Community fundraising team and manage a portfolio of relationships including Fundraising Champions (volunteers in branches) and key donors and supporters. You will review, inform and deliver activity to secure individual giving income and promote gifts in Wills, building our income from individuals including those who have received support from Cruse.

As part of the Income and Marketing/Communications Management Team, you will help shape plans to grow our income, raise awareness and increase engagement from volunteers and donors. We are looking for our new Campaigns Coordinator for Birmingham Friends of the Earth.

If you are passionate about environmental campaigning, and love supporting and working alongside committed voluntary activists, we’d like to hear from you. You do not need to have had a similar paid role in the past to apply for this role.

Birmingham Friends of the Earth (BFoE) is a non-profit organisation campaigning to create a more sustainable and fairer Birmingham. We empower others to take action, we hold decision-makers to account on climate change, waste, nature and clean air, and we make sure environmental justice is at the heart of everything we do, campaigning intersectionally and inclusively. As well as having an active volunteer-led campaigns group, we run The Warehouse, our lively environmental community centre in Digbeth and a key centre for the city’s activism. BFoE is linked to Friends of the Earth, the national organisation, but independent and able to campaign on issues that matter to us, in ways that resonate with us.

The purpose of the role, part of our small staff team of 5, is to lead our campaigns activity, working with and supporting our campaigns group.
