About the Role

The CEO will provide leadership to Embracing Age and to be responsible for the management and administration of the charity, in partnership with and reporting to the trustees. You'll lead, inspire and motivate staff and volunteers, whilst upholding and developing the Christian ethos, vision, mission and values of Embracing Age, along with the strategic objectives and priorities.

Chief Executive – full-time, permanent, London (flexible/hybrid)

The Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST) is seeking a new Chief Executive to lead the organisation through the next phase of its growth and development. This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for a highly experienced and energetic senior player to lead a small executive team, along with many highly dedicated and capable Institute members, as we embark on a number of key development projects which will continue to grow our charitable activities and influence in the food sector. The role is a key point of contact and ambassador for the Institute with many senior and influential stakeholders within the food sector and governments.

We are looking for a strong strategic and conceptual thinker, experienced in business and financial management, who can communicate with and influence people at all levels. The role leads a small team and will have significant hands-on involvement in day to day operational matters.

The individual will have attained a BSc or equivalent level, and have demonstrable experience in leadership and people management. They will have a broad understanding of the food (or associated) sector (and preferably experience working in the sector). Ideally, the individual will already have experience managing or running a charity, and so will have a practical understanding of charity governance best practice. 

With multiple activities from publishing through to professional recognition and from scientific and technical events and communication through to supporting the next generation of talent, the Institute is looking for a leader who can work creatively and yet in a focussed way to ensure all these activities are progressed.

Ideally, they will have previously worked for a professional membership body and are likely to have experience in the food sector.

The Infection Prevention Society (IPS) is seeking an experienced Financial Controller on a part-time basis to manage the transition of the financial systems and processes. With 2,400 members, the IPS is dedicated to advancing infection prevention and control (IPC), playing a pivotal role in supporting IPC professionals, promoting best practices, and influencing policy to prevent infections.

The organisation is transitioning away from being a association-management / volunteer-led model to a small secretariat, hiring its first CEO and five other positions, including this most senior finance role. You will lead on the transition process covering all aspects of financial management, to ensure the Society’s financial integrity and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage the financial transition to an in-house model.
• Creating and testing all internal processes.
• Oversee Statutory accounts, budgeting, credit control, financial reporting and compliance.

About the post of CEO

You will have a strong understanding of charity governance and will have demonstrable fundraising knowledge and/or experience. JOB DESCRIPTION

Strategy and Operations

1. Develop, implement, and lead execution of the charity's annual operational plan and 3-year strategic plan.

2. Identify appropriate level of staffing, volunteering, ensuring that all staff and volunteers are appropriately interviewed, vetted, inducted, trained, developed, and supported to deliver against their objectives.

3. Ensure appropriate upkeep, security, and management of the charity’s premises, including all relevant contracts and payments.

4. Ensure that the charity’s IT systems are fit for purpose and compliant with relevant law.

People

5. Line management of seven staff members, and responsibility for staff and team development, cohesion and appraisals.

6. Recruit and support social club facilitators and appropriate consultants to provide additional resource to the charity as required.

7. Lead staff member for safeguarding, liaising directly with Hammersmith and Fulham Adult Social Care.

8. Ensure appropriate mechanisms and safeguards are in place to support up to 100 regular volunteers, and up to 100 additional corporate/student volunteers.

9. Ensure appropriate mechanisms and safeguards are in place to support up to 500 beneficiaries and additional attendees at FGN events.

Finance and Fundraising

10. Develop, implement, and lead charity’s financial and fundraising planning and management, ensuring that the charity operates at least at break-even, ideally with a small surplus.

11. Ensure that the charity has a diverse range of income across various streams, inclusive of (but not limited to) public sector, trusts and foundations, corporate income, events, and online giving.

12. Ensure that the charity is receiving value for money with all expenditure, ensuring contract review on a timely basis as appropriate.

13. Ensure appropriate cashflow projections so that expenditure does not exceed income in any one year unless pre-agreed with trustees.

14. Ensure that appropriate financial controls are in place so to protect charity and anyone handling money on behalf of the charity.

15. In conjunction with the finance administrator and hon. treasurer monitor all income, expenditure, accounts, funding investments and budgets.

Governance

16 Ensure compliance with charity and company law, inclusive of writing, presentation and filing of annual report and accounts and other Company Secretary duties.

17 Organise, attend, record and report at board meetings every two months, inclusive of finance and operations reporting and the regular cycle of governance reviews.

18 Plan, organise and attend AGM and annual strategy session.

19 Ensure appropriate level of risk management and insurance are in place for the charity.

20 Ensure all relevant policies, procedures and financial controls are in place, inclusive of annual review.

Communications and Impact

21. Represent and promote the charity in public, sourcing media opportunities as appropriate so to increase visibility.

22. Represent the charity on appropriate networks and forums so to develop stakeholder relationships and source opportunities for cross-partner collaboration.

23. Ensure positive, fit-for-purpose, internal and external communications, inclusive of monthly newsletters, social media presence and other marketing materials.

24. Ensure appropriate monitoring and evaluation of projects and develop relationships with academic institutions and/or research consultancies where possible so to elicit external perspectives and scrutiny of the charity’s work.

25. Build relationships with local stakeholders and businesses.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential requirements

The Peer Support Coordinator will play a critical role in the delivery of Day One's Peer Support Service. The primary objectives are to ensure a high-quality service is delivered to our beneficiaries; to develop our regional peer support model; and to facilitate a positive volunteering experience for our lived experience volunteer team. Responsibilities will include the day-to-day coordination of peer support activity. This will involve sensitive communication with trauma-affected individuals to understand their needs and preferences, using this information to facilitate suitable peer support matches.

The postholder will contribute to building a diverse volunteer team by supporting the volunteer recruitment and induction processes. They will offer ongoing support, guidance and motivation to our volunteers, ensuring meaningful opportunities to engage with Day One. The postholder will support the Peer Support Manger to conduct regular reviews with volunteers to gather feedback on their experiences as well as supporting their personal and professional development.

The Peer Support Co-ordinator will monitor service delivery and volunteer activity to ensure it is operating within agreed policies and processes. To ensure we can evidence the success and quality of the service, a key aspect of the role will involve keeping accurate records of interventions as well as collecting regular evaluation/impact data and personal case studies.

You will be a compassionate individual, dedicated to ensuring the highest quality of support for our beneficiaries and volunteers alike. You will be empathic with strong active listening skills, able to demonstrate sensitivity and discretion in your communication with trauma-affected individuals.  You will be adept at identifying individual’s support needs and have strong social/communication skills enabling you to facilitate appropriate and meaningful peer support matches. Possessing excellent organisational skills, you will thrive in the fast-paced and reactive environment of peer support service delivery.

You will be committed to maintaining high standards and have a keen eye for detail able to keep accurate records of interventions and collect evaluation/impact data with regularity. Additionally, you will have a proactive approach to building and supporting a diverse volunteer team.  You will be a ‘people-person’, enjoy speaking with others, and have the knowledge and confidence to offer ongoing guidance and motivation to our volunteer team. Your ability to conduct regular reviews to gather feedback to support volunteers' personal and professional development will be essential in driving the continued success of our peer support service. Day One is a young, ambitious national charity dedicated to supporting people impacted by serious or multiple injuries which could result in life changing consequences such as disability or death, referred to in the NHS as ‘major trauma’.  Our Caseworkers work alongside NHS Clinicians, embedded as part of the team within Major Trauma Centres and across the wider Major Trauma Network to provide practical, emotional and financial support to adults and children as well as their families and loved ones.  Inspired ‘by patients for patients’ our vision is that no one has to piece life back together on their own after catastrophic injury. 

The Access Foundation is focused on making a real difference to people’s lives by awarding grants to charities which make a valuable and measurable positive impact.  Our grant giving objectives fall into three categories: 

1. to mitigate the digital divide by making computing facilities, support and learning available to disadvantaged and vulnerable people

1. to advance the charitable causes of the registered charities which are chosen as the "Access Group Company Charities of the Year"

1. to advance the charitable causes of charities for whom there is a strong emotional connection with a member of staff (e.g. through support they or a close relative have received from the charity) 

The Foundation aims to achieve this via a fund from which it awards grants to other charitable organisations aligned with the principles above. You are a key member or the team that works towards our target to award grants to a total value of +/- £2 million each year.

The Access Foundation was set up in 2021 following the success and growth enjoyed by The Access Group over the previous decade. While affiliated with The Access Group in terms of its identity, The Access Foundation is a separate organisation, governed by an independent board of trustees and with its own objectives and goals. 

The Access Foundation wants to fund projects and activities that make a real difference to people’s lives in the countries the Access group is active.To achieve our objectives, we are looking to appoint an experienced Operations Manager to help run and improve our operational processes.

Job objectives 

• Support the trustees in the due diligence and evaluation of each applicant and facilitate the decision-making process for each application 

• Support the ongoing evaluation process of all successful applicants and ensure agreed measures and outcomes are reported back to the Foundation in a timely manner 

• Manage the external communication of the Foundation’s successes back to stakeholders and supporters, as well as other channels on social media, such as Instagram and LinkedIn 

• Manage the communication with the Access Group and maintain an open channel of communication with the charities team at the Access group 

• Manage the Admin and Grants Assistant and ensure all Admin processes as well as operational processes are running smoothly and make changes where required 

• Manage the use of the accounting package Access Financials to ensure processes are followed and grantees paid on time.

• Oversee the data collation for and write the impact report 

• Collaborate and work with the trustees and volunteers 

Duties and responsibilities will include 

• Write regular reports to the trustees of new applications, applications in progress and outcomes, inform and advise the trustees to achieve a swift decision on all cases 

• Organise the publicity and communications around each successful grant, including newsfeeds, social media and website updates. 

• Liase with the Access Marketing team to support their own comms 

• Ensure financial accounts are accurate and complete 

• Liase with 3rd parties such as external suppliers and partners ranging from auditors to our financial partners 

• Draft Offer letters for the successful applicants 

• Recruit, Manage and Appraise the Admin and Grant Assistant

• Attend trustees, volunteers and applications meetings 

• Manage the access controls for volunteers and staff 

• Oversee the financial accounts, approve invoices on our bespoke Finance system and deal with some financial accounting together with our Chair of the board of trustees 

Skills and Experience Required 

• Organised, efficient and reliable with the ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneous 

• A minimum of 2 years' experience in a similar role 

• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships at all levels from junior to CEO 

• Computer literate with good knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook. 

• The ability to be an ambassador for the Foundation to all external parties and stakeholders 

• Strong verbal and written communication skills 

• Ability to travel to London as required (minimum once every 6 weeks)

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and passionate person to join our EDI team. This is a new role that aims to support the co-creation of a sustainable EDI training solution that delivers our ambitious strategic plans for improving our working and volunteering culture. 

The training will also support behavioural change in both of these communities. Through the creation of safe, brave spaces, you’ll be raising the awareness and knowledge of EDI related topics for both our staff and volunteers.

You’ll be pivotal in helping us to design, deliver and evaluate a training offer which meets our EDI training needs. In addition, your expertise will support other training programmes associated with behavioural change. 

As a result, our colleagues and volunteers will grow in confidence by equipping them with the tools to be active allies. You’ll build knowledge and awareness to support our ambitions to create a fully inclusive culture.

To be successful in this role you’ll bring a wealth of industry experience including; expert knowledge of organisational development and EDI best practice along with examples of developing co- created learning solutions.

This activity will involve rolling out training solutions to scale and geographical dispersed individuals so you should have excellent communications and interpersonal skills, and be solutions focused. Project management experience would be advantageous for this role.

The role is responsible for promoting the safety and welfare of children and young people on our platform, being a consistent and reliable presence on the Shout platform, and advising Shout Supervisors on safeguarding actions and practise while raising and recording safeguarding issues as they arise. 

Key Responsibilities

• To act as an MHI Designated Safeguarding Officer.
• Contribute to developing and reviewing MHI’s safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures.
• Alongside the DSO, contribute to ensuring that everyone working or volunteering with or for children and young people at MHI, including the board of trustees, understands the safeguarding and child protection policy and procedures and knows what to do if they have concerns about a child’s welfare
• Take a lead role in implementing MHI’s safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures: ensuring all safeguarding and child protection issues concerning children and young people who take part in MHI’s activities are responded to appropriately
• Take the lead on responding to information that may constitute a child protection concern, including a concern that an adult involved with MHI may present a risk to children or young people. This includes:
  • assessing and clarifying the information
  • calling in and recording all safeguarding issues as they arise.
  • supporting and responding to staff who raise internal concerns as well as supporting those who make external safeguarding referrals to police or Adult / Children's Services
  • making referrals to statutory organisations as appropriate
  • consulting with and informing the relevant members of the organisation’s management

• following the organisation’s safeguarding policy and procedures

• Attend team meetings, supervision sessions and management meetings as arranged.

This part time (0.6FTE) post is located within the core services Team, and reports to the CEO. The postholder works closely across the organisation to deliver an efficient Office management, Reception and basic HR service to all managers and staff.

Aims of the post

• To manage the office, coordinating volunteers to provide reception and administrative services. 

• To coordinate and procure office and IT equipment.

• To carry out HR administration tasks acting as a first point of contact for managers and staff.

Specific Responsibilities

Office management

• Dealing with customer & external queries and disputes dealing with in bound and out bound communication, such as hybrid mail, post, phone calls and customer satisfaction surveys. 

• Organise Reception rota and cover, enabling opening hours to be fully resourced. 

• Dealing with petty cash.

• Managing phone and IT systems, contributing to new projects and upgrades.

• Ordering and facilitating meeting refreshments.

To support the CEO to coordinate working groups across employees and volunteers. To administer staff surveys. 

• DBS checks - To undertake renewal DBS checks for all employees and volunteers and make recommendations as necessary to managers. 

• Managing information - To ensure good quality and accurate HR information management for all employees and volunteers with due regard to confidentiality and document control. To maintain electronic files and enable colleagues to make the best use of the HR database, Breathe HR. To facilitate references for former employees in partnership with managers and the CEO. 

• Payroll - To collate information, draft and seek authorisation of payroll changes in partnership with the CEO and Director of Finance. To support the annual pay review. 

• Recruitment - To coordinate recruitment processes in partnership with the recruiting manager. This includes liaising with the recruitment agency. 

• Learning and Development - To coordinate training suppliers and place bookings for courses in consultation with the CEO. To contribute to coordinating the annual Staff and Volunteer conference. 

Customer focused services

• Promote and support tenants/participants to access PBHA’s participation and co-production opportunities.

• Be supportive of PBHA’s ethos of maximising tenant/participant influence over the development of the organisation.

• To positively promote and signpost tenants and participants to report complaints in line with PBHA’s practice. To have a collaborative and co-operative approach towards resolving complaints, working with colleagues across teams and departments. To take collective responsibility for any shortfalls identified through complaints.

General Responsibilities

• Participate in key meetings.

• Contribute to policy development, income generation, strategic and annual planning, corporate and cross-team activities, external partnerships and promotional activities as required.

Main Conditions of Service

This is a part time position. The post is for 22.5 hours per week. It is expected that the hours will be delivered on 3 full days (to be agreed) each week but alternative arrangements, ie 4.5 hours per day for 5 days, may be acceptable. Duties will occasionally be carried out over evenings and some public holidays. Overtime is not paid but in line with Agile working, hours can be averaged out over a 2-week period.

Annual leave entitlement is 26 days per year plus normal bank holidays pro rata. This will rise after each completed year of service to a maximum of 30 days – pro rata.  

Salaries and expenses are based on PBHA’s salary scales and are revised each year. The salary for this post will be in the range of £35,692 pro rata per annum and the starting salary is £35,692 (£21,415 for 22.5 hours per week).

The post holder will be auto enrolled to be a member of the organisation's contributory pension scheme if eligible.

In common with all posts at PBHA, confirmation of appointment is subject to a probationary period (6 months). The notice period for this role is four weeks.

About Pancreatic Cancer Action:

Pancreatic Cancer Action (PCA) was founded in 2010 by a rare survivor of the disease. We are a small, creative and passionate team committed to improving early diagnosis and saving lives. In August 2020, Pancreatic Cancer Action merged with Pancreatic Cancer Scotland making our team stronger than ever. 

Pancreatic cancer has only a 7% survival rate and this figure has not improved significantly for over 50 years. Despite it being the 5th biggest cancer killer in the UK, pancreatic cancer receives only 3% of overall research funding. 

With a strong focus on early diagnosis, it is Pancreatic Cancer Action’s aim to improve survival rates through raising awareness, medical education, improved patient information and by funding research specifically into the early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Simply put, we want more people diagnosed in time for surgery, currently the only potential for a cure.

• Develop and grow the annual programme of fundraising events such as the London Marathon and Great North Run.
• Grow and steward a pipeline of new and existing community and events audiences and fundraising opportunities with a particular focus on England. Ensuring to always maintain the highest quality supporter journey.
• Manage the delivery of the virtual challenge events. Add insight and support the annual Pancreatic Awareness Month Campaign and help to further develop Pyjama’s for Pan Can to new audiences.
