As a Volunteer Communications Officer, you'll be instrumental in executing our communication strategy, ensuring consistent messaging and timely delivery across various channels.

Responsibilities:

Content Management: Utilise tools like Hootsuite to schedule and curate engaging content on our social media platforms, driving visibility and engagement.

Copywriting: Assist in crafting compelling copy for social platforms, aligning messaging with our organisation's mission and values. Assist in crafting our newsletter for health professionals.

Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams to maintain messaging alignment and brand consistency across all communication channels.

We work in the UK and East Africa, in partnership with our sister organisation Irise Institute East Africa and advocate together globally for the changes our community want to see. We were founded in 2014 in response to girls’ voices calling for their menstrual needs to be acknowledged and met. Almost a decade later, our small and agile team has directly supported over 100,000 young people to overcome period inequality, enabled 287 organisations to address period inequality in their work and boasts a community of over 174 groups and community organisations across the contexts where work. We’ve won a global award, sat on a UK government taskforce and been named one of the most effective organisations tackling this issue.

Our current UK Board has 7 committed trustees who are committed to working in a way which is inclusive, welcoming, collaborative, transparent, and reflective. We were shortlisted for a UK Charity Governance Award in 2020 for our approach to Diversity and Inclusion and we are on a continual journey to create spaces where diverse people can find community and a sense of belonging- we invite everyone who joins our community to help us do this better.

Who are we looking for? We are looking for a dedicated and passionate Trustee - Finance Lead, with specific skills and expertise in small charity financial management, who can guide the Irise community through the next phase of our journey. With cuts to funding for girls’ education in the Global South and rising levels of period poverty in the UK, Irise is needed more than ever before and we want to deliver ambitious plans for transformative change, led by the people and communities who need it most.

 As Finance Lead, alongside the Treasurer, you will maintain an overview of the Charity's financial position and of the conduct of its financial affairs such that they can and do give well grounded advice to the Board of Trustees and CEO.

Key Responsibilities

• Actively participate as a key member of the Board of Trustees.
• Support the development of the annual budget and future trajectories in line with the aspirations of the Irise’s strategic plan and fundraising strategy.
• Advise on all financial matters, including regulatory compliance.
• Oversee the development and observation of financial policies.
• Keep the Board of Trustees regularly informed of key financial events, trends, concerns and assessment of fiscal health in addition to completing financial reporting in a timely fashion, making these reports available to the Board within reason.
• Have oversight of all financial transactions including monitoring developed systems for keeping cash flow manageable and efficient.
• Advise fellow Trustees on a regular basis of the financial status of the charity and where necessary recommend action.
• Arrange the compilation and agreement of Irise’s annual report, including the annual review of accounts by the independent examiner.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have sound financial knowledge and the time needed to comprehensively fulfil the role:

• Competent and experienced in handling finances, ideally within small charities (formal accountancy qualification preferred).
• Good understanding of the charities Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP)
• An understanding of the voluntary sector and previous experience as a Trustee

In addition, all trustees are required to fulfill the following duties as outlined by the Charity Commission. 

Before you apply, please consider:

Time Commitment: The Board meet at least every 3 months. All of our core Board meetings are held virtually on weekday evenings lasting approximately 1.5 hours. Board papers are circulated 1-week prior to each meeting to enable plenty of time to read through and ask questions prior to the meeting. In between Board meetings you may be invited to provide additional ad-hoc input such as providing insights via email or taking responsibility for researching and writing Board papers on particular issues. We also have 1-2 in-person meetings per year; where possible, we strive for hybrid access to enable inclusion of those people unable to attend in-person events. Trustees are also encouraged to participate in online and in-person events with our wider networks and supporters from the UK and East Africa, and to support our youth leadership initiatives, for example we ask one of our trustees to provide mentorship to our Empower Period Committee. In total, you can expect to spend an average of 1-2 hours per week on activities and meetings related to the role. The role is meant to be compatible with a full time job and caring responsibilities, and we always aim for trustee input to be as flexible and time efficient as possible. We are always open to new ideas to make our Board as accessible as possible.

Term: Trustees serve a mutually agreed term, usually of at least 3 years, as agreed by the trustee and the board depending on the needs and desires of the organisation and the individual trustee. As a Board we engage in a continuous cycle of reflection, and each year our Chair meets with each board member, one to one, to review and reflect.

Expenses: Trustees shall be reimbursed whenever possible for all reasonable traveling, subsistence and other expenses incurred in connection with their attendance at meetings or in carrying out any other duties or responsibilities of the role, but otherwise shall not be paid a remuneration.

Seable Holidays offer holidays that stimulate independency, self-esteem and reduce isolation for blind and partially sighted people. We are the only tour operator to offer "chaperone assistance" - a local professional friend that ensures the holiday is safe and enjoyable.

They have a range of tailored and group holidays to suit the needs of all visually impaired people. The tailored offers are for people less confident and requiring 1:1 assistance, couples wanting a romantic break or families in need of assistance to have a well deserved relaxing holiday. Home-Start Camden & Islington (HSC&I) offers free, confidential support and practical help to parents of children under five in the London Boroughs of Camden and Islington who are struggling.

We are looking for volunteers with parenting or child caring experience to support families for 2-3 hours per week, for a minimum of one year upon completing the preparation course.

We provide a preparation course for all volunteers before they start to visit families, which covers all the essential training and information you will require. Next training starts this June!

Pranic Evolution is a small but growing team whose aim is to provide practical, video-based lessons to empower all those who have the desire to do so to become effective energy healers.

There is a growing body of evidence (both scientific and anecdotal, experiential) showing the effectiveness of various energy healing modalities such as Pranic Healing and Reiki in easing (and often even completely alleviating) the suffering caused by a number of physical, mental and emotional ailments. Master Choa Kok Sui, the founder of Pranic Healing, imagined a world with one energy healer in every household, irrespective of their culture or socioeconomic status, and we want to do whatever we can to assist in this noble mission.

The beauty of energy healing is that no special ability, material or tool is required for it to be carried out effectively, other than knowledge and dedicated practice of the techniques, a clear mind, a sincere will and a compassionate heart open to helping and serving others. We know that there are millions of kind, loving, caring individuals around the world who could become excellent energy healers but have not so far had the opportunity to explore this avenue because of limited awareness of its potential, and also the time and cost incurred in attending courses.

Their intention is to share all that we have learned about energy healing with anyone who might find it of help or interest. We see this as both our duty and our privilege. They plan to do this predominantly through a series of free of charge, freely accessible, ad-free video tutorials run through YouTube, which we hope to translate into as many languages as possible in order to reach as wide an audience as possible. They will not ever charge or profit in any way from our work or from the video or social media channels we create. Their work is funded entirely by private contribution, and we do not even have a bank account.

This is an exciting time at the Anne Frank Trust UK.

We are an education charity. Through learning about Anne Frank and the Holocaust, we empower young people aged 9 to 15 to recognise and challenge all forms of prejudice. Founded in 1991 by friends of Anne’s father Otto, we are the UK partner of the Anne Frank House Amsterdam.

We are looking to grow, building on our great achievements over the last few months:

• In 2023 we reached a record 119,000 young people through the three strands of our education programme – (i) our live online learning events open to all schools, (ii) our workshops and peer education delivered in person in schools across the country, and (iii) our ambassadors programme, which provides individual support and life-changing group opportunities for disadvantaged young people who have a long-term commitment to challenging prejudice.
•  As we continuously develop our programmes, our impact is increasing, and our evidence of this impact is outstanding. The latest report from our research partners at the University of Kent shows, for example, that our positive impact on young people’s attitudes towards Jews has increased by 59% since 2019. Of our young peer educators, 83.3% make significant progress in their knowledge of prejudice, and 87.6% become more positive towards at least one other group of people different from themselves. 
• In January 2024, HM Queen Camilla became our first Royal Patron.
• Nicola Cobbold, our new Chair of Trustees, brings wide-ranging operational and strategic experience from not-for-profit settings, as well as excellent networks in the Jewish community and beyond.
• Our new Development Director, Ruth Berenblut, arrived in post in October 2023, she has produced an appropriately ambitious plan for fundraising growth, and is recruiting a new team to deliver it.
