Role Overview:
GHRI is seeking a Remote Volunteer Full-Stack App Developer to support the development of our telemedicine and digital health applications. This is a fully remote role suitable for individuals looking to build real-world experience while contributing to meaningful social impact.

Responsibilities:

Develop and maintain mobile and web applications from frontend to backend.

Build clean, responsive, and user-friendly UI components.

Implement and manage backend logic, APIs, and databases.

Integrate telemedicine features, including chat and patient support modules.

Debug, test, and optimize applications for performance and scalability.

Collaborate remotely with designers, writers, and tech leads.

Ensure security, data protection, and proper documentation.

Requirements:

RANGER CADETS TRAINER / TRAINING DESIGNER - REMOTE VOLUNTEER ROLE

We are the Ranger Cadets a brand new independent start up non-profit uniformed youth work organisation that is being set up with an aim of getting young people engaged in their community in uniform, as well as equipping young people with the essential life skills, tools and opportunities that help them to unlock their full potential.

We are a non-political and non-religious inclusive uniformed youth organisation that is open and welcoming to everyone regardless of their social background.

We're on the look out for a dedicated, hard working, passionate and creative Trainer / Training Designer, who can design and create some fun, challenging and interactive training sessions that motivate young people and/or our volunteers, create team spirit and team bonding, boosts confidence and also gives a sense of achievement as well as a sense of belonging to the Ranger Cadets.

We are particularly interested in the following Training sessions to be designed and created, which will include;

1. Recruit Training - (12 weeks of 1.5 hours per week) for young people who are just joining Ranger Cadets for the first time and will get to know the Ranger Cadets, their role, build team work skills and build a sense of belonging while having fun and enjoyment become part of the local community and allows them to earn their uniform and begin their journey with the Ranger Cadets.
2. Cadet Syllabus - (8-10 hours minimum) that will be fun, interactive and challenging and help develop our young people, giving them the tools, techniques and skills needed in a particular topic or area relevant to the needs of young people such as in Communication Skills, Presentation Skills, Self Development, Community Work, Drill/Marching/Parading, First Aid, Mental Health Awareness, and other topics that will earn cadets badges for their uniform.
3. Youth Leadership Course (NCO) - (2 day course = approx 10-12 hours) for young people beginning their leadership journey at Ranger Cadets, where they will understand the role of leadership, leading other young people, peer mentoring, coaching, train the trainer and team work, as well as how to plan and organise lessons and activities for other young people that will earn them a promotion in rank to Cadet Corporal and the rank insignia for their uniform.
4. Officer Training (Adult Leadership) - (4 day course - approx 20-24 hours) for adult volunteers joining Ranger Cadets who will become an Officer In Charge of a Ranger Cadets, leading a Cadet Unit, taking on a leadership role, including running a cadet unit, safeguarding, working with young people, dealing with challenging behaviour, leading people and managing volunteers.

Your Leadership Responsibilities

As the Unit Lead, you will ensure your unit operates effectively and provides a truly positive and rewarding experience for all participants. This involves:

• Unit Management: Taking responsibility for the overall operational management and smooth running of the Cadet Unit.

• Weekly Meetings: Leading and overseeing engaging, high-quality, 2-hour weekly meetings during term time.

• Activity Organisation: Planning and organising youth development activities and training sessions that support our vision, mission, and aims.

• People Management: Actively participating in the recruitment, training, and retention of both the young people (Cadets) and the adult volunteers within your unit.

• Fulfilling the Mission: Ensuring every participant is equipped with the necessary skills to fulfil our core purpose: “Preparing young people for life, by equipping them with the essential life skills, tools and opportunities, be an integral part of their community by carrying out uniformed service and become active citizens.”

Time Commitment & Requirements

• Unit Meetings: Cadet Units meet for 2 hours on a weekday evening, every week during term times, usually between the hours of 6-9 pm. As a new unit, the team can discuss and set the specific day/time once in place.

• Experience: This role is ideal for someone who has some management experience and wants to enhance their skills while doing invaluable work.

• Training: If you are successful, you will be required to undertake an induction and role-specific training (e.g., our Officer Training course, Safeguarding, First Aid, etc).

• Background Checks: This role is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitations Offenders Act.

In this role, you’ll help families by explaining SEND processes and legislation, supporting them to communicate with schools and local authorities, and ensuring their child’s needs are properly recognised. You’ll also assist with preparing letters, attending virtual meetings, and keeping accurate confidential records.

About us: 

Peace Brigades International (PBI) is an international NGO with over 40 years’ experience providing life-saving protection and support to hundreds of brave human rights defenders who face reprisals because of their activism for social justice. PBI’s trademark protective accompaniment teams in Colombia, Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Indonesia, Kenya and Nepal are supported by PBI’s International Headquarters in Brussels, and offices elsewhere in the world, such as our UK section, which carries out high-level advocacy for improved governmental and other support for human rights defenders, as well as stronger regulation of transnational business behaviour.

About the role:

A 3-month volunteer placement where the selected candidate will not only play a vital role in upcoming projects but also harness their skills in advocacy, communications and administration/logistics. They will deepen their understanding and knowledge of the UK environment, gaining insights into UK politics, international human rights, legal frameworks, advocacy strategies, and communication tactics.

There are no set hours when volunteering for us and you can turn down anything that you are offered. Obviously, we will treat you with dignity and respect.

We do not anticipate that you will incur expenses in this role. We expect our volunteers to already have an internet connection and be willing to use that as part of their volunteer role with Green Allotments CIO.

Meet Me… is led by a vibrant and diverse community of previously isolated older people, who come together weekly to run a cross-art form social and creative programme to make friends, be creative, advocate for themselves, and contribute to the vibrant cultural life of Lewisham.

On Tuesdays we get together at the Albany theatre in Deptford, and get involved with everything from singing to painting, from crafting to gardening. During the COVID pandemic we took our groups onto the telephone, and seeing the massive benefits these groups brought we have continued with our Meet Me on the Telephone programme. Who we are looking for?

Our volunteers play a vital role in ensuring the smooth running of our weekly and monthly sessions. These roles are perfect for people who enjoy meeting new people, engaging in conversations, and trying new things. They’re also ideal for those who like to listen and provide support based on individual needs and interests.

Skills and experience:

Personable and Friendly: We need volunteers who are approachable and easy to talk to.

Strong Listening Skills: Essential for connecting with our members and ensuring their safety.

Experience with Older Adults: While prior experience working with older people or supporting their creativity is beneficial, it’s not required—just an interest in doing so.

Adaptable and Flexible: Activities may change, so volunteers should be open to adjusting their approach as needed.

Creative Sharing (Optional): Some volunteers enjoy sharing their creativity with our members, but this is not a requirement.

We’re also looking for volunteers who are interested in helping out with marketing and social media, so if that sounds like your cup of tea, get in touch! It would be great if you also have experience of working with people living with dementia.

What’s next?

Get in touch for an initial chat. We will then invite you to complete a registration form and book you on to our next available training session. Training will cover safeguarding, setting boundaries and explore the programme. It is a chance to work through possible scenarios and ensure you feel confident to join us for one of the in person or over the phone sessions.
