As an Independent Examiner for Thyroid UK, you will review our accounting records and annual accounts to ensure they are accurate, comply with legal requirements, and provide an independent assurance to trustees and stakeholders that the charity's money is properly accounted for.

Overview:

• The Independent Examiner plays a crucial role in maintaining public trust and confidence in charities by providing an independent scrutiny of their financial records. 
• The examiner's responsibilities include reviewing accounting records, comparing them with the annual accounts, and reporting any concerns to the charity trustees. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Review Accounting Records:

Examine the charity's accounting records to ensure they are properly maintained and support the annual accounts. 

• Compare Accounts with Records:

Verify that the annual accounts accurately reflect the financial position of the charity as shown in the accounting records. 

• Consider Unusual Items:

Identify and seek explanations for any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts. 

• Assess Compliance:

Determine whether the accounts comply with relevant legal requirements and accounting standards, including the Charities Act 2011. 

• Prepare Examiner's Report:

Prepare a report for the charity trustees outlining the findings of the examination, including any matters of concern or material significance.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Financial Awareness and Numeracy: 

Must be appropriately qualified in matters of accounting and financial administration. 

• Understanding of Charity Accounting: 

Should have experience of working with small charities, plus knowledge of charity accounting principles and regulations. 

• Analytical Skills: 

Must be able to analyse financial data and identify potential issues. 

• Communication Skills: 

Should have the ability to clearly and concisely communicate findings and recommendations to the charity trustees. 

• IT Skills: 

Must be familiar with Xero or similar cloud based accounting software.

Reporting:

• The Independent Examiner's report will be submitted to the Charity Commission along with the charity's annual accounts.

  • Proper accounting records were not kept. 
  • The accounts do not accord with the accounting records. 
  • If accruals accounts were prepared, they do not comply with the legal requirements and the applicable SORP.

Purpose

Young Carers’ Crew is a registered charity (number 1176778) and runs a group which meets to provide emotional and practical support to Young Carers through recreational activities. We give support to local children and young people, who perform a caring role supporting another member of their household. 

Young Carers’ Crew is a small grassroots community group. We are hoping to bring in more people with diverse skills and experience to build sustainability.  

We are looking for Volunteer Trustees with a range of skills, to help steer and direct the organisation. 

The Board of Trustees takes on the ultimate legal and financial responsibility for all the activities of the organisation. They maintain an overview of policy and strategic direction rather than being involved in day-to-day operations. This position will not have any regular contact with the children or the volunteers running the Group activities. 

Role Description 

Volunteer Trustee for Young Carers’ Crew 

Volunteering is an unpaid position. Appropriate out-of-pocket expenses will be re-imbursed.

Location: Most tasks will be home-based.  Meetings will be held in and around Hitchin, Herts.

Hours: Up to 2.5 hours per month for Board meetings. Additional time for position is estimated to be 3 to 4 hours per month.

Trans Celebration is seeking a passionate and organised Volunteer Assistant Coordinator to support the Volunteer Coordinator in managing and engaging our growing team of volunteers. This role will help ensure that our community-driven events and initiatives run smoothly by assisting in volunteer recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, and support.

As a key point of contact for our volunteer team, the ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about community work, skilled in communication and organisation, and committed to advancing trans rights and visibility.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with recruiting, onboarding, and training new volunteers.

• Maintain volunteer schedules and ensure appropriate coverage for events and campaigns.

• Serve as a liaison between volunteers and staff, aligning volunteer work with Trans Celebration’s mission.

• Provide on-site and remote support to volunteers during programs and events.

• Keep accurate records of volunteer hours, roles, and impact.

• Help implement volunteer appreciation initiatives to boost engagement and retention.

The Fourth Choir is seeking passionate and dedicated individuals to join the board managing our LGBTQ+ charitable entity and arts organisation.

The choir was founded in 2013 to give professional and non-professional LGBTQ+ singers and allies the opportunity to sing a cappella choral music to the highest standard possible, and since then has since performed more than 100 times in over 40 venues.

Fostering a fully inclusive musical environment is at the heart of what we do, and we work to affirm the identities of our members, support their wellbeing, challenge stereotypes and explore innovative themes through our activities and concert programming.

The choir is a registered charity and incorporated as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). We are governed and managed by a small board of trustees, all of whom are currently active singers with the choir. As well as governing and directing the strategic development of the choir, our trustees also manage ongoing operations, with each taking a lead role for a particular function.

We employ a professional Musical Director, who is responsible for our programming and musical leadership, and also work on occasion with a roster of Guest Conductors.

To continue building upon the success of our first decade, we are seeking to recruit external trustees to a number of key positions, who can bring external perspective, experience in key areas and help to build the capacity of our management team.

Roles we are looking to fill include:

Treasurer

Responsibilities

• Prepare annual financial report for the Charity Commission
• Keep records of income and expenditure and report on profit and loss position of events
• Pay invoices for professional fees and services

Preferred experience

• Bookkeeping experience in a business or nonprofit capacity
• Experience using accounting software such as Xero

Secretary

Responsibilities

• Keep accurate minutes of planning and board meetings
• Manage schedule of planning meetings
• Potentially take on additional organisational responsibility, such as venue bookings

Preferred experience

• ​Prior experience with minuting meetings and following up with agreed actions
• Highly organised and collegiate

Philanthropy Lead

Responsibilities

• Identify and apply for grant opportunities and report on activities
• Develop sponsorship relationships with corporate and individual donors
• Manage our communications with and offers to significant donors

• ​Experience managing and growing a giving program for a charity
• Successfully sourced grant funding and/or corporate sponsorship
