Hestia provides holistic, one-to-one support in our refuges and the community. Our refuge services are for women and children, offering a safe place to stay and vital emotional and practical support.

Outside of our refuges, most of our support services are accessible by anyone who has experienced domestic abuse, including men.

In the last year, 3,855 women and children were supported by Hestia to recover from domestic abuse.

Anyone can experience domestic abuse, at any point in their life, regardless of their background, age, gender, ethnicity or sexual orientation. However, it is a gendered crime, with women being three times more likely to be victims.

What you will be doing

• To develop and promote a positive relationship with the service user through regular F2F meetings and phone calls, and facilitate their journey to achieve their goals that align with the aims of the Economic, Empowerment and Security Project
• To support the service user in developing their business aspirations, understanding the financial aspects and applying for grants/loans, support with their business plan development, developing their business and leadership skills, and networking opportunities
• To use your industry knowledge and understanding of business, strategy or/and financial principles to support the service user in developing their career goals and employment skills, and confidence.
• To encourage the service user to attend Economic, Empowerment and Security events ran by Hestia’s volunteering team
• To encourage the service user to engage in further external and internal educational training and activities and supporting them in doing so. Manage appropriate boundaries

You will support us to reach some of the most isolated adults in your community to reduce their feelings of loneliness, build friendships and provide support for mental wellbeing. You will support people to relight a spark to continue a hobby, interest or encourage them to explore and participate in new social activities.

Practicing yoga has been shown to increase mindfulness not just in class session, but in other areas of a person's life.

• Design session plans enabling all group members to increase fitness, suppleness and help them relax
• Teach the group yoga postures and breathing techniques which allow a range of mixed ages and abilities to participate
• Inspire and motivate people to attend and get involved in the group activities where possible and encourage the group to help design future sessions

Role Description

Barnet SASS is a community IDVA service, receiving multiple referrals for survivors every day. You will be supporting our duty team to process these referrals and key admin work. If you are interested, you can also be trained to contact clients, making initial welcome or check in calls.

You will receive training and experience in using a case management system, safeguarding, talking to survivors and processing referrals. Training Opportunities

Volunteers will be able to access Solace Women’s Aid’s induction and internal volunteer training programme. Full support will be given to help volunteers understand and carry out any aspect of the role as appropriate.

Barnet SASS is a community IDVA service, looking for someone to support us in facilitating events and involving those we support in all we do. You will be contacting service users to gather feedback, share information and opportunities to get involved. You will also take a role in organising events for those we support such as coffee mornings, drop-in sessions, and focus groups. There will also be the opportunity to engage with local organisations to build relationships.

You will receive training and experience in organising events, using a case management system, safeguarding, and talking to survivors. You will be part of an inclusive and dynamic team and have opportunities to shadow different roles to develop knowledge and skills. This is a great role if you are interested in joining the sector or working with survivors of domestic abuse.

We work with primary and special schools to transform children’s lives through music, promoting wellbeing, self-confidence and creativity. Key Responsibilities

Board and committee meetings are held in the evening via Zoom and dates of meetings are distributed a year in advance. The away days are held in person in central London.

Skills and knowledge

• Skills or experience in strategic planning, setting targets and monitoring and evaluating performance;
• Good organisational and communication (written and oral) skills;
• Proven track record in senior governance roles;

As a Volunteer Befriender, you’ll:

• Meet with people in the community at times and places that suit their needs (this may occasionally include evenings or weekends).
• Provide emotional support, drawing on your own lived experience.
• Encourage people to build social connections and get involved in local activities.
• Act as a “community connector” by signposting people to services and opportunities.

Full training and regular supervision will be provided, so you’ll feel confident and supported in your role.

Our Hertfordshire befriending service supports adults (18+) who are living with mental health challenges and are known to mental health services. The service helps people feel less isolated, more confident, and more connected to their local communities.
