Job description

Use Your Communication Skills to Support Volunteers Across the UK

Volunteer Kind CIC is a growing volunteer-led organisation dedicated to supporting, valuing and championing volunteers.

We believe volunteers are at the heart of strong communities, yet their needs are often overlooked. Through wellbeing initiatives, learning opportunities, practical resources and community engagement, we are working to create a future where every volunteer feels recognised, supported and empowered to thrive.

We are looking for a creative and enthusiastic Communications Officer to help us share our message, celebrate the impact of volunteers and raise awareness of the support available through Volunteer Kind.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an organisation at an early stage of development and help shape how we communicate with volunteers, members, partners and supporters.

What Will You Be Doing?

As Communications Officer, you will help develop and deliver Volunteer Kind's communications activities and support the growth of our public profile.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Creating engaging content for newsletters, website updates and communications campaigns.
  • Supporting the promotion of Volunteer Kind's projects, services and activities.
  • Helping share volunteer stories, achievements and examples of impact.
  • Writing articles, announcements and promotional content.
  • Supporting awareness campaigns focused on volunteering and volunteer wellbeing.
  • Helping maintain consistent messaging across communication channels.
  • Contributing ideas that increase engagement with volunteers, members and supporters.
  • Working collaboratively with Social Media Coordinators, Content Creators and other volunteers.
  • Helping communicate the impact and progress of Volunteer Kind's work.

What Are We Looking For?

We would particularly welcome applications from people who:

  • Are passionate about volunteering and community impact.
  • Have strong written communication skills.
  • Can communicate clearly and effectively with different audiences.
  • Enjoy storytelling and creating engaging content.
  • Have a good eye for detail.
  • Understand the importance of accessible and inclusive communication.
  • Are able to work independently and manage tasks effectively.
  • Are comfortable using digital communication tools and online platforms.

Experience in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, content creation, community engagement or fundraising would be beneficial, although this is not essential.

We are equally interested in enthusiastic individuals who are keen to develop their skills while contributing to a meaningful cause.

What Difference Will You Make?

Your contribution will help more volunteers discover the support, resources and opportunities available through Volunteer Kind.

By helping us communicate effectively, you will support:

  • Volunteer wellbeing and engagement.
  • Membership growth.
  • Community building.
  • Fundraising activities.
  • Awareness of the challenges volunteers face.
  • The development of our "Here for Volunteers" initiative.

As one of our early volunteers, you will play a key role in helping shape the voice, identity and future growth of Volunteer Kind.

What You'll Gain

  • Experience in communications within a growing social impact organisation.
  • Opportunities to develop writing, content creation and engagement skills.
  • Practical experience helping build a national volunteer support organisation.
  • The chance to contribute to projects that create meaningful social impact.
  • Flexible volunteering that can fit around existing commitments.
  • Recognition for your contribution and the opportunity to build a portfolio of communications work.

Time Commitment

  • Approximately 3-5 hours per month.
  • Fully remote and flexible.
  • Attendance at occasional online meetings where possible.

Diversity and Inclusion

Volunteer Kind is committed to building a diverse and inclusive organisation. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences, including those who may be underrepresented within volunteering, communications and leadership roles.

We particularly welcome applications from people with lived experience of volunteering and those who share our belief that volunteers deserve support too.

Interested?

If you are passionate about communication, storytelling and making a difference, we'd love to hear from you.

Join us and help ensure that the voices, experiences and contributions of volunteers are recognised, celebrated and supported.

Together, we can build a future where every volunteer feels valued, connected and empowered to thrive.
