The Maudsley Hospital in Camberwell first opened in 1915, initially as a military hospital and then in 1923 as a psychiatric hospital. The hospital is home to both inpatient and outpatient services for children and adults. We provide more than 240 services to people in our local communities as well as being the UK's leading provider of national and specialist services.

About the role

We run a Clothes Bank for service users who are on the wards and may not have access to multiple items of clothing. The Clothes Bank currently relies on donations from staff at the Trust, and volunteers who sort the donated stock and bring it to service users on the wards. For this project, we need 2-4 volunteers who can commit each week on Wednesdays to help with this.

The role involves going up to the wards, speaking to ward staff to ask what items of clothing their service users need this week, and returning to the Community Link Centre where the donated clothes are kept and sorting the stock. This involves good organisational skills and teamworking ability, as you'll be working with other volunteers to make this happen. It's a really fun way to do a lot of good in a few hours, meet likeminded people and develop some new skills.

About you

This is an ideal role for anybody interested in building skills in administration, communication, organisation, and teamwork, and for anyone interested in fashion, sustainability, and mental health. There is a lot of scope for the volunteer to shape the future of the clothes bank and bring new ideas to improve its efficiency and drive donations, as well as potentially offer a more bespoke dressing service. Ultimately, if you believe in the power clothes can have in helping one feel their best, this role could be for you.

Key details

This role is available on Wednesdays between 9:00am-1:00pm and 2:00pm-5:00pm. The expected commitment is 2-3 hours a week, for a minimum of 9 months. This role is suitable for volunteers who are 18 years or older. People with lived experience of mental health conditions are encouraged to apply.

As a volunteer tutor, you’ll:

This role is for people who already have some previous experience in people facing roles. We are looking for people who have empathy, are good listeners and are non-judgemental. You will be supporting a small number of clients who have more complex needs and require extra support to get through difficult situations. We are looking for people who have two to four hours a week to spare. You will be offered support in this role by the Partnership.

Following a recent board skills review, we are seeking two individuals who can offer skills in the following areas: 

• Income generation – This trustee will have an enterprising mindset, with experience of strategic fundraising, working with grantmakers, trusts and foundations or devising corporate sponsorships. Their guidance will help our charity to move into new ways of generating income, allowing us to become more resilient and advance our vision for a society where the importance of meaningful connections is valued. 
   
• Sector influence and advocacy – This trustee will be a great communicator, with a skill for forming and sustaining effective relationships. They will have a broad professional network which might include national or international connections. They may have connections which include the private sector, academia, thinktanks or investors interested in making social impact. Their experience might include research, policy making or campaigning. Their guidance will help us advocate for the befriending sector with greater impact and effectiveness.

Animal Fosterer

As an animal fosterer, you would be supporting the RSPCA in providing either our cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, or other small furries with the safety of your home whilst tending to their welfare needs such as feeding and grooming. In addition to this, by providing a temporary loving environment, you will play a crucial role in their wellbeing and socialisation, which will significantly improve their chances of successful rehoming.

Once everything is in place, the animal center will guide you through the fostering process and ensure that you have all the necessary equipment, food, and veterinary care for your foster. The RSPCA is also happy to reimburse any other pre-agreed expenses that you may incur through volunteering for us.

Whilst our animals are in your foster care, you will:

• Provide them with care, suitable housing, and a safe environment as per our policies and guidelines.
• Feed, water, and groom them in line with our advice.
• Transport them to any veterinary appointments if required.
• Provide them with your time and patience.
• Help us spread the word about the animals in your care so they might find their forever home quicker.
• Playing and cuddles are also a must!

What we are looking for in a volunteer Fosterer

• Volunteers aged 18 or over who have had plenty of experience caring for animals.
• Fostering experience is beneficial but not essential as training is provided.
• For their wellbeing, the whole family should be on board with fostering an animal.
• Any existing pets or animals need to have been spayed/neutered (some medical reasons may mean they cannot be so, please let us know if this is the case).
• You will need to live in our branches area.
• You will need to be able to pick up supplies from our office in Eastcote and transport animals to the vets for routine and emergency appointments.

We are looking for an Education trustee for Lancaster Independent School for Alternative Learning with senior educational experience.

What will you be doing?

We are looking for an Education Trustees who can contribute to the strategic direction of our small independent school based in Lancaster, Ofsted rated "Good"; attending termly Board meetings required by the independent school standards. 

The Board meetings are usually on a Friday afternoon and can be attended remotely.

Be the trustee presence on the Education Committee (other members of the committee are senior teaching staff), to provide oversight of the School Improvement plan and report back to the board of Trustees on status; attending bi-termly Education Committee Meetings.

The Education Trustee has line manager responsibility of two members of the school senior leadership team, including annual performance reviews.

At least once per term (3 times per year) the Education trustee will be expected to spend at least half day at school to complete lesson observations of direct report.
